Hi..
I cant find any information if there is any advantage in learning the skill Battlecruiser higher than III if i just want to fly a Harbinger until i have sufficient skills for a Apoc.
The thing is: To fly (and properly fit) a Apoc i have about 4 month to skill so i will sitt in my Harbinger a while.
Any Suggestions? -- |

Each battlecruiser has a different ship bonus depending on the level of the Battlecruisers skill. If you look at the ship info you can see it.
For example, on the Harbinger:
Originally by: Harbinger description
Battlecruiser Skill Bonus: 10% reduction in laser capacitor need and 5% bonus to laser damage per level.
If you think that's worthwhile or not is up to you.

Don't forget that BC isn't race specific so you can crosstrain the other races BC's aswell if you wish to do so at some point. Making it a very solid skill, i personally am taking mine to 5.

I would recommend training it to at least IV. Relatively small time spent for III -> IV for a significant boost.
V is great if you fly BC a lot and it opens up Command Ships for later. But I wouldn't recommend it if you plan to be in a Apoc most of your time. _______________________ Drink Eau du Nichup«, the taste of heaven. Now available as Nichup Citrus« as well! |

Battle cruisers are the best ships for pvp given a limited amount of isk. The drake and Hurricane are said to be the most unbalanced ships in the came, costing under 50mil T2 fitted and doing great dps while having a great tank.
As posted before, battlecruiser skill is not race specific, so switching to another race takes almost no time, and you already have battlecruisers of the same level with them.
and amarr command ships are amazing.

I'm pretty sure a tank fit Drake (and is there any other type?) could tank two of itself without a problem.
A friend of mine basically thwacked me upside the head when I didn't have Battlecruisers or missiles in my huge skill plan of doom because they do roving BC gangs made up largely of Drakes and if I want to PvP with them that's what I should get into first. Long story short? Battlecruisers are scary **** and totally worth getting to 4 at least.

The first claim I'd have to agree with. The second is a little more debatable.
At any rate, there's a thread in S&M right now that might add to this discussion.
But my take is pretty much as above: BC 5 is awesome. Nothing makes cross-training as painless.

Well imo, a Harb is alot more fun to fly in PvP compared to a Apoc, however if your goal is Pve then the Apoc will trump the harb in every way. I am currently training Battlecruiser V myself, the amount of dps a harb can pump out is amazing when fitted properly. But my ultimate goal in getting BC V is the Abso/Dam (command ships) mmmmmmm It just depends on what your goals are tbh (a good thing to have when you open up your training queue)

Except where it doesn't. Grinding up a new corp in a BS is a ludicrous undertaking, and having a Harb on standby when you have to run L3s is more than prudent. Especially if you're just trying to make sure your Amarr standings don't hit the red.

I dearly hope your goals are in the right place. The Abso is... less than impressive. Again, see the link I already posted: it doesn't really add much that the Harb doesn't already bring to the party. It also suffers from having its damage bonus linked to CS and not BC. That may not sound like a problem but it can definitely lead to more training than you'd like.

The abso (aka death pigeon) is a zealot/harb with a good tank. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

For a Myrmadon it seems worth going to V on battelcruisers for an extra 20% bonus to drone hitpoints and damage, along with a 15% bonus to armor repair amount. I don't know if the bonuses for other ships seem worth going past IV or possibly III, though.

Quite honestly, you'd be an idiot to not train it to 4. It's less than a week's time of training for quite a significant boost for every battlecruiser.

Rule of thumb I use:
Every skill you decide to start training, train it to 4 at least.

Level 5 is a must if you are serious about flying Battlecruisers or you want to get into Command Ships.

I'd add to this, any ship-class you are going to fly for anything but the shortest amount of time, train to Level 5. Battlecruiser V is, imo, a mandatory skill for any PvP'er.

QFT!
Well, except for the 3 or 4 oddball skills that are completely useless once you hit level 1.

This is a must train to 5! I use a Myrmadon for all of my missioning (I tank level 4s with it) and each level gives me a nice extra chunk of repair and my drones hit pretty hard :)
As everyone else said, this skill is useful for all battlecruisers regardless of race AND for command ships.
