According to CCP's CSM voting blogs, around 5% of players are registered as female. If memory serves right, from the old EVE skills showroom, roughly 35% of avatars were female. So, at first sight, you'd be tempted to conclude that roughly 1 in 7 female avatars is likely to be actually controlled by a real-life female. HOWEVER, some females actually create male avatars, and how many of them that is is much harder to quantify. Let's assume the ratio is similar to that of males playing female avatars, in which case, about 1 in 3 females actually plays a male avatar.
So overall... VERY rough rounded guesstimates...
A MALE AVATAR : ~2% chance of it being female, 98% of it being male FEMALE AVATAR : ~9% chance of it being female, 91% of it being male

Waiting for the day Akita T makes a post that does not contain mathemetics, formulae and/or analytic substance
In fact, waiting for:

/end offtopic.
On topic.
It doesnt matter how many girls play eve. to me it matters more how many interesting people play it.

I don't care whether there are any girls playing EVE or not.
It just doesn't matter.
I'm not going to form a social relationship with one ... so I don't care.
They're just other players to me - like everyone else.
Given the tiny percentage of players who are females IRL and the fact that some one who says they're female could be lying ... I just assume they're all male ... but don't care about that either.
Other players to me - are just that - Other Players.
*shrug*
When Another Player - comes into my area - I don't look at their avatar to see if it's male or female - I look at their ship - and watch what they are doing with it.
So ... while the subject of how many players in EVE are really females is something to chat about on the forums - it isn't something that even crosses my mind in game.

You mean you don't classify ships as girl ships and guy ships? Like cars?

I can see that this topic is preying on people's minds so...
YES, there are female EVE players. It's my pleasure to personally know three. NO, they will not date you and NO, I will not tell you their names.
Now let's all settle down and go back to the serious business of internet spaceships Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenĘt built for this! Clear Skies - The Movie

More like 3 - 5... total.
I'm a lucky guy, than. My previous corp had 3 active women. But, like someone above me suggested, its a moot point. Players are players; the sex of the person behind an avatar has no influence on how I act towards them.

A friend of mine once said that the best part of games like this was the ability to be someone he completely wasn't. He isn't a world conquering hero in RL, he doesn't fly spaceships against pirates on a daily basis and he isn't that guy everyone looks up to.
With that in mind he creates avatars that are as far from him in RL as their actions are. A complete seperation between the real and the imagined. His avatars, where possible, are short, black females.
I tend to agree. In RL I don't fly spaceships (though I do track them ) and I'm not a female member of the Gallente. But in a game....

Here's what matters: how successful are you in this game? How successful are you in RL? Are you still playing the "something you completely aren't" angle with that? I don't think many people are. Who cares what your 60x60 (tiny) avatar looks like?
