Ffs we are supposed to vote for the best European online game as it stands NOW. Simple as that. If you think that there is some other better mmorpg out there, worth my money and time, I'd really like to hear about it. I don't know any.
Sure Eve could use some fixing here and there just like any other mmorpg in the world, but it also needs to evolve. CCP said they planned from day one to create some sort of ultimate sci-fi simulator. I couldn't possibly know reasons why they've been stuck with that 'internet spaceships' part for all this years but if they really want to finally move and expand Eve they must do something about it. You could say that they did not choose right time, but let's be realistic: there is no such thing as right time not it will ever be. Remember we are talking about one mmorpg here: mmorpgs are never finished, they are always partially broken, and you can never expect perfect balance. Never. I've played enough mmorpgs in my life to know that Eve is --despite all its flaws-- far the best in genre, and comparing to other companies CCP is actually very good in what they do and how they communicate with their playerbase. It's ok if you don't believe me: then I'd strongly recommend you to try some other game... AoC, WAR, DF, you name it. But let me tell you this: if you played Eve for more than 12 months I guarantee you'll come back very soon.
Also... I see some people here are voting for other games even if they don't have slightest clue about them. Why? To look cool on these forums? How old are you guys?
I play games to have fun
EVE isn't fun for me because the things I enjoy dont work
Therefore EVE does not deserve my vote for "best online game", because it isn't.
It used to be, and I have a shred of hope that one day it might be again, but right now it's not. The possibility that it might be fixed a couple of years down the line doesn't do me the least bit of good right now.
If and when CCP do fix EVE so that I can have fun playing again, then I'll vote for them again. Simple as that.
And before you ask, I have cancelled all 3 of my accounts. 31 days left on this one. I'm hanging around to lend my support to proposals and ideas that might help encourage CCP to fix the game in ways that would restore my fun, but unless something really remarkable happens before 12:04 28.10.2010 that'll be it for me.
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

I will certainly vote as soon as my schedule allows so. That will be, accordingly to my current plans, in 18 months or so. Thank you for understanding.

Of course its worth pointing out at this stage that the last thing CCP asked us to vote on was.....
THE CSM!
Aaaaand...they ignored them. Can we have confirmation that CCP will now also ignore the result of this particular voting process?

Yeah, I even registered there to vote something other than eve, because this "excellence" bull****, you keep breaking the server at DT's and refuse to fix anything, maybe in 18 months... which will mean you have missed two of your precious prizes by then.
Quote: It was mentioned by CCP that the data does not seem to support that polished quality sells better than new features.

First, I LOVE this game!
I will continue to pay/play for a long time.
But, vote for it as online game of the year? I can not, in good conscious, do that.
I have not played any of the other games, but they can not be as screwed up as you have "developed" EVE into.
SERIOUSLY, how can you, CCP, think your game is worthy of any awards? Have you no Integrity? Have you no SHAME!
Forget Incarna, focus all DEV teams to fixing EVEā or the running joke of EVE is dying, may turn out to be a self fulfilling prophecy!
Again,
SHAME ON YOU CCP!

On the upside, CCP has managed to unite the warring factions of nullsec.
on the downside, it's because they've dropped the ball on fixing problems and managing 'the message'.
Fix the lag. Fix sov. Fix the goddamned game, then we'll talk awards.

Then I had to press the vote button about forty times before it registered, at which point it stopped responding and just kept trying to vote solidly for 45 minutes. Fortunately, none of them counted apparently, as I started bouncing back and forth between the poll page and the link that got me to it for about half an hour before my browser went black, my iPhone went on fire and I went to bed.
I complained that they'd not counted my vote for excellent space MMO Eve Online but they said that their records showed nothing and that it was my own fault for trying to vote in the same poll as more than thirty other people.
Yeah, happened to me also, they said they would maybe fix it in 18 months after walking in poll-booths was done.

Edited by: Mellissa on 28/07/2010 14:03:31 At this point i'm inclined to vote for LEGO world closed Beta. Not that eve is a bad game, but it needs to be fixed before i will have my vote.
So instead of barging into this forum saying vote for us. You might want to tune down a bit and start solving the issues that this game has at the moment.
Dmn LEGO world is not in the list ;(
Then again : Best European Game Batman: Arkham Asylum Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Dirt 2 Heavy Rain LittleBigPlanet PSP Trials HD
erm ???? who made this list. No Red Dead Redemption to name one.

Of course they will.
If they dont win, they'll start saying "EVE is great we got Nominated" and act like not getting enough votes to win didnt matter.

I love eve but would I vote it for any award for gaming awesomeness? Heck no. Being a software developer I almost feel embarassed by the code quality and the lack of any real software development process to control regression and code quality during the codes life cycles. CCP really needs to get there stuff together and get a software development process in place that works, even just a little bit, to stop this endless cycle of user fustration and causing all the pointless whining. Pointless because CCP takes no pride in their product, they just take our money and invest it into new games to take more of our money. It's bad enough they developed a game you feel the need to have multiple accounts with. Now they are just adding a 3rd/4th for us to pay for. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
Have some pride CCP, hire someone that knows what they are doing to put a software development lifecycle process in place and fix this endless cycle of software development fail. Quality products win awards, not the really cool doodles you drew on your napkins you managed to con us into buying.

This is the first year in which I've played Eve that I can't in any conscience vote for you guys to get an award like that. The sad fact of the matter is that you haven't finished delivering the features from previous expansions and the core in-space game today cannot afford to be left alone for 18 months while you are developing Incarna and Dust. You need to change your development priorities a bit and have at least a couple of teams devoted to delivering previously promised features of past expansions and fixing the problems with the game we play (and pay for) right now.
You need to listen to the community on this. Eve needs development of its core gameplay and you need to be providing the features you have promised in previous expansions.
And the biggest issue for me personally? Calling it Eve on line Tyrannis in those awards. Tyrannis is the worst expansion to this game I have seen since 2003 in terms of lack of content and interesting things to do. PI is pretty terrible and wasn't worth waiting six months for. Sorry to be blunt but there it is. I'd have prefered a patch called "crime and corruption" that boosted FW, bounty-hunting and merc profession and concentrated on implimenting some of the CSM backlog together with minor combat fixes and Dierdra Vaals tradable kill rights system (5th subsystems for tech3 would be a plus).
At the moment I'm still committed to Eve because of my alliance-mates and my friends that play this game not because of any faith in your current development or belief you will fix these important issues and omissions from previous expansions. Take from that what you will, but it doesn't convince me to cast a vote for "excellence" that doesn't currently exist outside the huge assembly hall topic begging you to actually take notice.

The latest dev blog shows that approximately 15 out of 124 developers are working on something that the player base actually cares about. That is, fixing a game that worked pretty decent until the end of last year.
So, no. I wouldn't expect many votes from your players for best game.

Edited by: Grumpy0ldMan on 28/07/2010 14:29:42 yeah.. sweet.. thats wonderful
just a few questions... what do i get out of it if i vote for you?
do i finally get a lag free game? can i jump into a 0.0 system where there is a massive fleet fight and actually for once get reimbursed for my ship loss due to your poor game mechanic? will i acutally get correct customer service instead of the standard "copy and paste reply"? i think not.
i pay you my $ and that is all you get. when you give me a little more i'll give you a little more. until then, good luck
