EQ2...is there any better game? I haven't found one. It has one of the most mature and nicest coomunities too. Big bonus.
I'm not voting for Eve, never have, never will.
NGE was SoE's screw up caused by them desperately chasing the mainstream market in favor of the dedicated players they had (whoops incarna).
Vanguard was a product of immense hubris from a developer confident they had magical insight into the market (whoops CCP).
EQ2 was terrible on launch and largely rescued by one person (Scott Hartsman) no long on the team... but that doesn't map so well to CCP so I can't draw a humourus link... Maybe the absence of their being a CCP equivalent?

I feel insulted that CCP want us to vote for them.
Lately i frequently have trouble running two accounts at once, and i don't even fly in big 0.0 fleets, sometimes using the market seems to give lag. so it looks like i might as well go from 4 paid accounts to one account using plex only.

CCP make stunningly bad decisions a lot (most) of the time but I'm not at all sure this is one of them.
The report indicates that the OSX market is stagnant really - no growth at all, in fact it "shrunk" by 0.3% in the last 3-4 months, although that's got more to do with increased PC (Windows 7) sales I guess.
Whether or not you agree with the figures or not, or you think there deserves to be an Apple client isn't so much relevant to the fact that there is one, and both Apple themselves and CCP push and advertise it. The state of the apple client is significantly worse than that of the Windows one to the point there are long standing bugs with simply jumping through gates or cap jumping, occasionally you come out the other side and your client crashes, no rhyme, no reason.
I wonder does the Apple marketing machine know of this threadnaught regarding something they advertise.
I have a problem with CCP pushing a client that doesn't work and gaining publicity for a game thats broken, above and beyond its Windows counterpart. As a Mac user I would honestly rather they axe the Mac client, announce it unsupported or beta or take some other decisive action that says "we know it doesn't work but we are focusing on other things" and stop gaining publicity from it. Either support it or don't, I don't mind which, but don't claim to and then not.

That article pretty much sums up the whole story completely. FWIW, I don't think CCP actually can fix the lag. I say this because the lag affects even systems with only a few people in it (experienced it myself on a losec/nullsec boundary with only 3 people in system). It's not restricted to large fleet engagments at all, and CCP's attempts to recreate the problem using massive fleets on the test server are most likely going to fail.
I sadly think that Eve is going to fail in the long term.

Being the devils advocate, should CCP put their PR/Marketing people working on lag too?
CCP CEO: "FIX THAT LAG!" PR GUY: "But I'm majored in public relations! I can't understand tech stuff!" CCP CEO: "HTFU ALREADY! AND YOU, IN THE CORNER, I SEE YOU! GET SOME FOOD FOR THIS MORON WHO'S FIXING LAG!" MARKETING GUY: "But I'm working on the next marketing grand scheme for new accounts!" CCP CEO: "GTFO AND GET IN THE KITCHEN BITXH!"

TBH if i didnt get 0.0 gates in near empty regions traffic controlling me for 2 1/2 mins for no reason when there are only 10 guys ratting next door (which hide before i can get them) then i'd vote for CCP as it is i'll vote for manic miner instead that game was awsome.

So, I started playing WoT since so many people are talking about it and eve is so horrible lately. They have this thing on the login that says "email bug reports here."
This game is going to kill CCP if they don't get their act together and here is one reason why.
I emailed them with a minor bug report a few days ago, just in case they didn't already know about it. Nothing major, just my screen resolution keeps resetting when I restart the game.
Today I get this from an actual person:
Quote:
Dear Player,
We are working on the problem and will contact if needed.
Best regards, Tony Moris
World of Tanks Support Service http://www.worldoftanks.com
Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: YAC-797222 Department: Technical issues Priority: Low Status: In Progress
Needless to day, I'm impressed. If this were CCP, they would have either denied it existed or ignored me. Then if I took the time to prove it existed, they would have given me the run-around saying "ok, now you need to go to this other place and submit a bug report because we can't be bothered to just forward this huge ticket chain you've already wasted your time creating." Then, if I actually took the time to submit the bug report, they would still just ignore it since it's not a "new feature".
If Eve doesn't improve, I'll definitely be taking my money to WoT when the beta ends.

Don't quite follow the logic on that one. But no, I agree with the decision that the webdev team shouldn't be sent in to fix networking and game engine mechanics, it should follow that no one unqualified should be allowed near the code base. That someone had to be talked out of sending a webdev to fix this probably highlights where this all went wrong.... no qualified sane IT project manager would contemplate that course of action. If you had unqualified people working on an exceptionally complicated code base, they probably and by the view from here did, more harm would be done than good.
CCP should be hiring and allocating the right number of the right people to fight the Lag monster, bigger/more isn't better you don't bring a dread blob to fight a hac gang, you bring a few RRBS' they think they can win against and crush them. CCP have few excuses not to hire competent people, maybe they need to outsource or open up a branch office somewhere with a bigger people resource base than iceland to do it, but a team should be established, just to work on this. Why that needs to wait 18 months is slightly beyond me, the numbers they will lose in subscribers surely justify the expenditure. I would love to know the logic behind the wait, I'm sure there is some, I'm just not convinced it's good.
Then again it's so easy to judge from the outside with no facts.

This is an excellent variation on a tried and tested theme +1 from me .
Unfortunately unless things change pretty drastically soon I am going to be cancelling my accounts.
I love EvE but I'm very tired of "soon". When Dominion came and broke everything I enjoyed I thought: "Don't worry, they'll fix it soon, some things always break during an expansion and get fixed soon after" Now we are fast approaching a year on and there is no sign of progress at all.
I cannot justify waiting much longer, especially when every day that goes by burns a little of the faith I used to have in CCP. I hope that this message is getting through to you guys. You used to promise to deliver things when they're ready not rush them out to meet arbitrary deadlines, recently you have turned this on it's head and dumped quality finished products in favour of delivering poor quality (nearly) on time. This is the wrong attitude.
Good luck

I can't vote for this with the game in the state it's in. You guys don't deserve that award this time around, CCP. Don't get me wrong, I love EvE Online a great deal, but you guys need to get things fixed up across the board.

Market lag != combat lag. Jita is just market laggy. Any lag you get on the undock is client sided from having to load/render the models, textures, animations, and effects for whatever is on grid. If there was combat lag like you have in sov fights, etc., then you wouldn't see the considerable amount of warp scrambling notices, etc as no one would ever manage to lock one another or by the time you manage to get a lock you have to wait on the server to acknowledge that you want to shoot at someone and subsequently process whether you can do so and the results.
The game is in a functional state; otherwise you wouldn't see people actually logging in. Is the game in its promised state? Far from it. Is the game in a desired state? Not really.
