I have sent up an Alt on a separate account for pure PvP, after trawling through the forums I decided to test the water in RvB to learn the basics before 'moving on'. The character is training Minmatar as my main can do lvl 4s using Caldari & Amarr so thought I'd try something else. Currently can use T2 guns and modules which the main is building.
So was thinking of going Rifter > Rupture > Hurricane. Thinking was I can armor tank them all and so minimise the initial cross training of shields etc.
Firstly is the rupture a poor choice of cruiser.
Secondly is it worth training lvl 5 skills early on (eg armor, motion prediction etc) whilst just using the frigate or better to get most to 4 so I can also use cruisers ?
I'm also going to train thermodynamics and ensure I have good navigation skills but any further suggestions will be much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Seems like a reasonable plan to me. Rupture is a good, solid cruiser imho, and you'll see a lot of them in RvB. Hurricane is an awesome ship, and the Rifter is probably the #1 frigate for pvp.
As for whether to train level 5 for frigs or stop at 4 and go to cruisers, I think that's something you can sort out as you go. Personal preference, really.
Good navigation skills are crucial for all levels of pvp.
Best of luck to you.

I would train up relevant skills to your tank to a minimum of four before stepping out in anything above a frigate. I know that I refused to step out in a Myrmidon until I could run tech 2 armor repairers, which require Repair Systems IV and Mechanic IV. While you do that, Mechanic also increases your structure hit points, which is also a plus. I also wouldn't go out until you can fit a DCU II, as the bonuses it provides are great for the price (60% hul resist FTW!).
As for weapons, I'm training up Small Hybrid Turret and Medium Hybrid Turret to level five right now. A Myrmidon likes the tech 2 turrets, but it's not necessary since the bonuses are for the drones and armor repairer. Since you're looking at ship who have damage bonuses to turrets, I wouldn't skip on the weapon systems they use. :)
As I said before, all the other gunnery skills can be at level 4 for now, and it won't be too much fo an issue. Just remember to have Weapons Upgrades IV at a minimum, for tech 2 upgrades. :D First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean!

Solid plan I'd say add Amarr frig in there to give you a nice tanky fleet ship particularly if your going to join RVB and want to do any fleet stuff (rifters are primaries of choice unless there is a Gallante frig around)
Punisher's are actually better with AC's than lasers imo, pretty much all your skills to fly one will work on the other in an armor tanked mode.

The Rupture is an incredible machine. Good tank, good output, versatile. Take a look at some of Garmon's videos where he uses the Rupture.
If I were you, and this is just advice, get yourself up to the Cane and be able to fly it decently. Once you are there, go back and polish up general support skills and gunnery. That way instead of spending weeks on supports and so forth and being able to fly a mean Rifter and a garbage Cane, you will be flying a Rifter, Ruppy, and Cane all fairly decently; you can then sculpt out the level Vs as you see applicable to your playstyle.
Hope that made sense, lol.
Dont neglect Navi skills, especially for Minmatar. There's a lot of speed options for us, and we take advantage of them quite well.

You should already now start to get used to the idea of being primaried quite early in cruiser fleets.

I'd recommend staying in frigates until you have stellar support skills and then move up. I am approaching 14 million sp and I still fly exclusively frigates.
If, however, the urge to get in cruisers/battlecruisers overcomes you, then don't fly them until you can fit tech 2 medium guns. They fail badly without them imo.
Good luck with the pvping mate.
