Hello,
I have been reading for like 30 hours learned a lot but i have few noobish questions that i need to be answered and some guidelines in sense of fitting & learning. It is quite few questions but you will really help me if you answer. And please dont use shortcuts cause i dont know what they mean RvB, PGP ANS I dont hnow what that is.
Im in an early stages of game just learned Cruisers etc. hsve 300K skill pointsa.
I Want to start PvP. So:
1.) Please 1 fitting for newbie Merlin (up to 7-8 mil. ISK) and One for Kestrel (up to 7-8 mil. ISK). Beaucose i want to try both of them to see whats better for me long or short range. I know ill be loosing ships in a proces of learning.
2.) Where do i go and fight, Can i just go to space belov 0.5 and start shooting at others or i need to be in some corp. or what so ever beaucose i have read that i wount be able to go to 1.0 space if i fight is that true.
Where to go fight and to be able to return to 1.0 space thats the real question.
3.) those pirate icons that someone has by itself, can i attack them in secure space.
4.) Can i go to enemy teritory and shoot them (im caldari).
5.) is there any databse of shortcuts you use beaucose its like im reading Arabic mixed with chinese, i understand up until the important stuff comes than all of the sudden JHD, CF, BD comes and im lost.
Thanks alot....

Edited by: Athena Silk on 28/07/2010 22:01:04 Cheap Merlin fit goes something along the lines of: 2x Electron Blasters 2x Rocket Launchers
1mn Afterburner stasis webifier warp scrambler Medium shield extender
Micro Aux Power Core magnetic field stabiliser
small anti-em resist rig small anti-thermal resist rig small anti-kinetic resist rig
Upgrade to named or T2 where skills and ISK allow (and you can also upgrade the therm and kin resist rigs to core defense shield extenders).
Best place for you to find pew would probably be Red Vs Blue. Lots of T1 frigate fights, very newbie friendly, no need to worry about GCCs (global criminal countdowns, when you shoot a neutral in low-sec).

I am typing on my cell so bear over any typos, etc.
If you want to learn pvp I suggest you start by flying frigates, since they are cheap abd replaceble, and will teach you the basics of transversal and tracking. As far as fits go, iwont recommend any paerticular fits, but I suggest you download eft and play around with it. A coutionar word tough, eft is not eve. Eft can also help you find out which skills to train for next, by checkin which skill gives you the most benefits.
As far as where to pvp. Lowsec means you will loose sec status, which in turn means you are no longer wanted in highsec. You can still go.through highswc, but police will hoot you if you stay in.ace too long. 0.0 doesn't hurt your security status, but is full of insta death. Faction warfare is a cross of both.
A final advice is. If ypu want to learn pvp stay away from blobs l. Try to solo or go out in small groups 2-3 max.

RvB = Red Federation vs. Blue Republic ... basically it's two "newb friendly" corps at perpetual war with each other. Good for beginners such as yourself to learn the basics of Player vs. Player combat.
FW = Faction Warfare ... also referred to as "militia." It pits Amarr Empire and Caldari State against Minmitar Republic and Gallente Federation. You need 0.5 standings with a particular faction to join and a steady source of income as you will lose A LOT of ships. FW is also not the most newbie friendly place in the game. You will either come to love it or hate it.
Not sure what the other abbreviations are...

Register with Battleclinic.com (it's free) and browse the Loadouts tab. You can find almost any fit for any situation in the game. And don't be put off by the fact that almost every fit is T2. "Dumb them down" accordingly and make T2 the benchmark for your training.

If you go into into space that is between 0.4 and 0.1 (also referred to as Low-sec) you CAN attack random people without CONCORD interference... however you will still take a security standings hit and go GCC (Global Criminal Countdown, a red 15 minute aggression timer) during which the gate/station guns will still shoot at you. NOTE: it IS possible to tank the guns... but only in a battlecruiser or above. In 0.0 space (Null-sec)... it's a total turkey shoot and you can fire on anyone and everyone with impunity.
As for re-entering high-sec (0.5 and above), so long as your security status is not below -2.0 and you are NOT GCC, you can enter high-sec without any problems. If your security status is too low, go and kill some belt rats (cruisers and battleships, anything smaller won't give you much) or run lvl 4+ missions.

3.) those pirate icons that someone has by itself, can i attack them in secure space.
Unless they are an outlaw (-5.0 or lower) and blinking red, no. I wouldn't advise it anyways as they will most definitely come back when you least expect it and gank you.

4.) Can i go to enemy teritory and shoot them (im caldari).
Unless you are part of Faction Warfare there is no "enemy territory." Caldari can go into the Gallente Federation and vice versa.

Most of the abbreviations are shortened versions of the modules' names. Capacitor Power Relay would be referred to as CPR. Damage Control Unit would be abbreviated as DCU. Best advice I can give you is to familiarize yourself with the various modules and weapons and guesstimate what people are referring to. And if you are in doubt, ask.
One last thing... find yourself a nice PvP corp... one that is willing to train you and teach you the fine art of PvP. _______________________

thank for your effort. So i went in my first 0,3 sec. space to kill some Frigate that isnt lucky enough and has encountered my deadly webifier. Waited like 5 mins. along some two battlecruisers. The poor guy shows an frigate i instantly lock on 7500 kn range warp disable it and then those two battlecruiser like pooped me in a sec. loool. I think ill go to asteroid belt next time wont camp at stargates ;). Now im in red and ready to go for another run in asteroid belts... But what ammo is best for this setup. Iv put antimater ammo and navy thorn rockets.

Edited by: CONCORD4U on 29/07/2010 09:47:52 I think you have been unfortunate enough to get killed by the gateguns. If you are in anything lower than a very well tanked Cruiser, stay away from gates. And if you do like to fight at gates, only fight those that are red on your overview.
Good luck!
EDIT: And as far as ammo goes, for now just take those types of ammo that are about the same range as each other. Would be a shame to use ammo for about 6km range (rockets) and ammo for masive DPS at 1km range. Later on after the loss of again some more frigs go and find out the weaknesses of your opponents and switch ammo accordingly.

A note on using battleclinic.
Many if not most of the fits I've seen posted are lolfits.
If you want to find good fits find a successful pilot who flies the type of ship you want to fly and check their loss mails (everyone loses once in a while) For the most part those are going to be the fits you'll want to fly/train for. Particularly if you see multiple losses with the same fit that means it's one they like and people generally like a fit that works well.

Well if they are lol-fits you can easily find that out thorugh battleclinc.
Either their rating is very very low, or in the comments beneath the fit people are saying things like: "Bad fit but +1 for creativity." Leave those as well and you can happily use BC.

I don't agree. Yeah there is the occasional pearl amongst the swine but you gotta dig through a whole lotta smelly stuff to find them.
Also I get the feeling that the BC fitting section is mostly the home of a bunch of EFT warriors. For example the top rated Punisher is a laser fit posted by a guy who's 1 for 7 with no indication that he's even flown the ship in combat.
If you want a good fit, find a good pilot and look at their known ships you'll find battle tested fits that people who've actually used them in combat like, As opposed to some armchair warrior who's EFT'd something and got the peanut gallery to buy in because it claims to have XXXXdps in EFT.
EFT just tells you if the modules you pick will fit. Only actual combat will tell you if they actually work. For example I had a blaster punisher fit I thought would be just winsauce but when I actually took it out to fight the slow speed of the ship and the short range of the guns combined into a near useless ship even though EFT made it look awesome.
