Eve would be better if there were more choices and challenges that arose from ordinary travel, making it more interesting and less of a grind. e.g.
* gate rat spawns that sometimes include fast locking, warp scrambling ships
* misjumps (gate or jump drive malfuncions)
* miswarps - ending up a million klicks or so off your target, or something more serious (chance of new rare deep safes ?)
* small deadspace patches that pull you out of warp in the middle of a system, where you find gas clouds, asteroids, wormholes, complexes, ships in distress, abandoned stuff, salvageable or hackable things
* if there is a plex or anom or wormhold approximately on your warp path, a chance that you'll actually get pulled into it.
Since all of this would be an economic negative (it would on average slow hauling down), it could be done along with some ships (or rigs) that have specialised cargo holds.
Would also screw macros too, if randomly one in every 100 (10 ? 500 ?) warps they had to point their ship out of a warp bubble, evade a rat or answer a distress signal.
Fitting indies would be more of a game - guns, ECMs or WCS would all be alternative ways of evading scramming rats. Amarr Victor. |

Unless you give freighters low and/or medium slots. ___ Space for Rent, free beer for signature, preferably with colours! (no pink) |

Good Point. I like your ideas, would be interesting to stumble onto these random events and hope you have the correct ship setup to make use of them.
But the second poster had a point. It would suck for freighter pilots or haulers.
Also I know AFK AutoPilot is kind of a point of contention amongst some people (I believe its fin as it is, NO to AP warp to Zero), but this would really screw up someone on AutoPilot.

I think it'd be fair to make Capital-class vessels, like freighters, immune to these occurrances. Something about a Capital warp-drive being closer to a jump drive than a conventional warp-drive to explain it...
I like the thought. Like any other there are likely flaws and issues that we aren't thinking of...but I am particularly fond of the effect it would have on macro haulers, and making travel somewhat more interesting. I would be highly annoyed if I was FCing a fleet and they didn't make it to the bait because of something like this...I'm thinking that fleet-warp would have to somehow be immune as well...

So, you want shuttles removed from the game, then?
Because I'm pretty sure my shuttle ain't tanking no rats.

How would this make EVE better? It sounds to me like it would completely, totally suck. Maybe I'm just not catching the vision here. It sounds like what you're saying is that I should have to worry about the equivalent of level 4 mission rats camping gates, randomly spawning NPC warp bubbles, randomly being thrown off course (making traveling even MORE of a pain in the ass than it already is...), or getting randomly pulled into W-space so I can be ****d by sleepers without warning.
So the practical upshot for me as a pilot is that I can never fly anywhere unless I fit my ship to meet these potential problems... which means if I am (for example) flying to a hostile system without an outpost, and without a capital ship with a maintenance bay, I am now unable to effectively attack a POS or engage an enemy fleet because I'm fitted for ratting, not for PVP. Even if I can refit when I get there, I still have to stop and change my fitting twice every time I want to fly to a different system.
How is this better?

But your point is still very valid. I think this would be a measure to liven up highsec and make it a less comfortably place with more adventure.
I like the idea of trickier more disruptive rats (though not more dangerous) with the chance of reward so that when it happens your all 'oh no' but still kind of glad at the chance of something. Maybe be rewarded by the chance to take on a storey arc. Some suited to distracting down all the differant professions.
Shameless plug of an idea of mine that i hope Chralos will see along side his vision.
