I mostly scan and explore, but recently I have dipping my toe into the trading/contracts waters. I have a couple of questions:
1) Is there anything to prevent someone from having an alt bid up a contract in order inflate the price (e.g.-Pilot A writes a sell contract for 1 million ISK starting bid. Pilot B bids, and then an Pilot C - who is an alt of Pilot A - makes a higher bid.) It would seem that this would make it easy and undetectable for people to bid up their own contracts.
2) I have bid on a contract that was due to expire in "1 day". But now, 2 days later, it still says "1 day". Can people modify their contract to extend the expire date?
You can see that #1 and #2 together make me worry that I am being scammed.
thanks in advance.

2. Contracts can't be extended. (Check the contract again later, you may have simply checked before it ticked over to 'less than a day'. And just after it ticked to '1 day' before.)

here is specifically about auction but the whole contract system is laid out there
ad there are ways that an auction will increase its own time based on when ppl place their bids
it says 15 min are added but i could have sworn it was more than that

I can somewhat echo this comment. I bid (and eventually won) a Caracal auction. It was the only auction I have ever participated in, so I'm sure of the details. :)
For me, I logged in one morning before work and there was "less than 1 day" remaining. Checked after work, "less than 1 day". Checked the next morning after DT but before work, "less than 1 day". Checked after work, "less than 1 day". Checked after next DT and I had finally won it. I not sure if DT comes into play, but I am 100% positive that it was "less than 1 day" for over 36 hours.

Bids will extend a contract. This is to prevent last moment "sniping".
