Ok,
So I've read some blogs, and seen how there are corps like "JERKS" (?) that do high-sec 'griefing' (not realy griefing, but the kind where they provoke people (missioners/miners) into attacking them and then ganking them) My question is, other than for mining ships (where lots of ships will work just fine)...what exactly do you fly to take out a Raven/CNR/Golem, etc. if you're solo? A HAC? Another BS? I'm guessing taking on a Marauder is a bit nuts, but I'm intrigued as to the technique.
Thanks,
-G

Its not too hard to kill a missioning BS. They have a few weaknesses: active tank, rat-specific tank, large guns/missiles. So you can neut them, apply damage to their resist holes, and speed/sig tank their guns. Afterburning T3 ships are great for this.
Also, they are very slow, don't fit tackle, already have damage from rats, and are typically inexperienced at PVP. So there's not much to lose by trying.

I don't grief mission runners, but here's my 0.02 ISK. The thing with mission ships is that they are very well tanked against the specific damage of their mission, but have huge holes so you can take them down very easily with the right damage type. I would say a HAC or dps battlecruiser could take down a raven if it is doing the right damage. As the mission runner doesn't fit tackle (unless it is bait!) there is no risk for the attacker. A battleship could comfortably beat any of the ships you mention if the attack doesn't do anything stupid.

What I've noticed is that mission runners tend to have some sort of mod that is dependent on cap (armor rep, shield booster, armor hardener, shield hardener, etc). By simply neuting the ship dry you can just sit back and watch the rats eat him/her alive (be careful with missile and projectile ships, they'll try to kill all the poor rats before they die). _______________________

Edited by: Joe Starbreaker on 30/07/2010 19:50:56 Mission-runners are set up to tank moderate incoming DPS over a long period of time with a shield booster or armor repairer. They are not set up to tank a large DPS spike for even a relatively short period of time. That means that a high-DPS cruiser like a Thorax or Rupture should be easily able to break their tanks, especially if you pair it with an energy neutralizer.
The only real problem for you is going to be mobility. Most mission deadspaces disallow MWD, so you need to get into the mission and within warp disruptor range of the target using an afterburner before the target figures out what's going on and warps away. For that reason, many people recommend a cruiser, HAC, or fast BC rather than a battleship.
IMHO the Hurricane is the ideal ship, but your mileage may vary.

i personally like the vexor, id use something simmilar to this. could swap the blasters for all neuts nos, with an AB fit you can get a single medium nos in the highs with the rest being small net/nos

So... a DomiNOS tanked against the Mission runner should be just fine?

A problem or two with that.
First, is mobility. Your AB domi is slow as all heck, which combines with the second issue: The Domi will likely spook the missioner.
You need to be meek enough that he fires on you, and the faster you are, the less time he has to REALLY think about why you're there.
Fly something smaller, a cruiser or BC, and give that a shot. With neuts, they will kill the missioner's tank, and they do enough damage to from there to take them out.

Just watch out for omni tanked passive drakes....they can hurt even without a specific PvP fit

Whilst this is probably true at least with a mission runner if the faeces hits the fan and he does start to pound on you, the chances he will be packing any tackle are slim anyway so you can just warp off.

Drakes are harmless. They can't win. Watch for Minmatar fits. Arty Mael can really hurt if it hits you at the right moment, fatal for smaller ships. Gank fit Mach tracks small ships well and chew down your buffer before you can even align in midsized ships, packs ab at ~500 m/s, high mass tackle/bump to disrupt alignment even without point, and ~1k dps at 100km large AC falloff. Also watch for mission fit Vins, they usually pack stacked webs, deadspace ab, and ~1500 blaster dps. Getting close to them may not be a good idea. Mission tengus can also be troublesome, although they're more hard to get rather than dangerous like the others.
Overtanked mission boats just prolong their death. They're harmless. The ones to watch for are gank boats.

A lot of people that engage in this mischief use seemingly innocuous ships backed up by remote logistics. It's more likely a mission runner will pew you if they don't perceive you as a threat.

Exactly. The problem is... you have to get the mission runner to aggress you first. Usually, you steal loot from your wreck, or in the case of miners flip their can, making yourself a criminal. The mission runner(or miner) then has the option of engaging you without the threat of concord.
However, most mission runners won't go engaging some big target. They know the tricks full well. So you are basically hoping for a clueless, newer mission runner. Yet even they know enough not to just go shooting at anything. You would have to find a very newbieish player for that, or... they will know what they are getting into and you could be in trouble.
So, your best bet is to not be so big and intimidating. Realize that for newer players, you will most likely face only cruisers at the largest. Go in with a good destroyer that you know could take a PvE fit cruiser. You'll have more luck that way.
