The CSM/CCP Summit minutes are just around the corner. They are more than just the minutes we've come to accept from the CSM, these will be nearly 200 pages of in-depth coverage of all three days of the summit. Every session in the sort of detail we've been demanding. More a Summit Report than Summit Minutes.
So, who gets tasked with writing the minutes? Trebor's own opinion on this seems reasonable:
Quote:It is my view that working on the production of the minutes is the price you pay for actually getting to go to Iceland, and that if you don't go, any work you do is done out of the goodness of your heart.
You will note that Hans, Alek and Issler did not go to Iceland, yet all have done work on the minutes -- and Hans and Alek also attended many sessions via teleconference. So, who did what on this mammoth project? Three, of the seven, who went to Iceland did no work at all on the Summit Report, in any capacity, and two of those can, maybe, be forgiven due to language barrier issues.
Seleene (Chairman) No work done, though did write three mammoth blog posts on the summit, to keep the playerbase informed. These posts most closely resembled the minutes of old. So in a sense, players got their minutes exceptionally quickly due to Seleene, while the much larger report was being written, compiled and approved.
Trebor Daehdoow (Vice Chairman) CSM Intro / Whitepaper, Stakeholder, Player Experience - Launcher, Art, EVE Economy, New Player Experience.
Two Step (Secretary) EVE/DUST Link, Starbase Rework, Content.
Elise Randolph Live Events, Ship Balance.
Greene Lee No work done. Language issue, as Russian is his first language.
Kelduum Revaan No work done, not even on his pet interests New Player Experience, Corporate Management or Crimewatch.
UAxDEATH No work done, Language issue, as Russian is his first language.
Hans Jagerblitzen (Vice Secretary) Corporation Management, EVE UI, Wardecs and Crimewatch, Faction Warfare, Treaties.
Meissa Anunthiel No work done.
Dovinian Security
Issler Dainze Industry and Mining
Alekseyev Karrde State of Incarna, Nullsec
Darius III No work done.
Concerning, UAxDEATH and Greene Lee, I'll leave it up to the Russian-speaking community in EVE Online to determine if they've been good candidates, whether their communications have been adequate or not. (Greene Lee has been taking some of the CSM-related English-language posts and translating them for the Russian-language section of the forums.) So I won't make any comment on whether they've been doing enough or not as CSM elect, and especially as CSM elect who get the privilege of a trip to Iceland.
Of the English-speaking CSM members who took a trip to Iceland, only Kelduum Revaan has not contributed to the Summit Report. Apparently his reason: a busy workload.
As active as Kelduum was in the run-up to the election -- his lengthy forum posts and appearances on podcasts -- he's all but vanished since he was elected. No blog or forum posts to speak of (except to defend himself and/or his alliance). And I don't recall any podcast appearances since April. He's often logged into the game, and he is on Skype regularly, so his heavy workload hasn't effected that aspect of his EVE experience. Oddly, he was able to squeeze in a three day trip to Iceland, yet a couple hours, here and there, for a podcast interview, all but impossible.
Meissa is the oldest CSM member, but seems stuck in the old way that the CSM ran. Silence, silence, and more silence. Did not offer any assistance on the Summit Report.
Darius III is a useless lump. Rarely logs into the CCP/CSM Skype server. Rarely offers up any opinion on any subject. Not sure why he ran, other than to take a seat from someone else. I'm not going to blame myself for him getting elected (I cast all my votes for Hans), but I did make a post or two about him being a worthy candidate. I feel much shame having done that. He's tricky come election time, and I understand why The Mittani despises him.
Hans and Trebor are definitely the hardest working of the CSM elect. Looking at their Summit Report output is proof of that. Hans has even gone further, because during the report writing period he was still making long posts on the forums, appearing on podcasts, and had a 3-hour AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit. Both Hans and Trebor are passionate about EVE Online, and show it through the amount of work they do for the community.
With a few notable exceptions, this has been the hardest working CSM the players have had the fortune of representing them. Many of these people deserve to be elected next year, and a few do not. The STAIN Travel Bookmark Collection - 451 Bookmarks |

I have read every mail, and almost all of the much vaunted Skype convo, mostly useless stuff. You are correct that I rarely offer up my opinion and surely the other members work MUCH harder at the CSM than I do. Hats off to the crew working on the minutes-they have put forth much effort and deserve praise. They have spent countless man hours working on the minutes.
I prefer to lurk, read and only voice my opinion if it is unique and my views have not been posted by other CSM. When the CCP/CSM dialogue does not have inputs that mirror my feelings, I tend to be very vocal. The broken inventory system was one of those instances.
As far as Mittani 'despising me' actually we are quite close, I would say even chummy. I really think that the CSM can use him and his representation helped the whole player base. Shame about what happened. Hmmm |

Hadn't see that there was much indication of public opinion about the CSM 7 either way. I won't claim everyone in the CSM 7 have quit all RL commitments and slaves away CSM-ing 24/7 but there is a constant stream of interaction between the CSM 7 and CCP about all manner of Eve topics. The way the CSM works now with a skype channel open all the time to CCP really changes the nature of the CSM and a goodly number of CSM 7 are taking advantage of having an open channel to represent the player base quite often.
There are some in the CSM 7 that are absolutely earning the support they were given to be elected.

There are some in the CSM 7 that are absolutely earning the support they were given to be elected. Issler I'll give you that. You guys may indeed have a constant stream of interaction between yourselves and CCP, but what about the constant stream between CSM and the general playerbase?
Perception is reality and when the general playerbase perceives the CSM to be slow to respond if they respond at all, it stands to reason that some players believe you guys to be a bunch of do-nothing slackers (myself included in that belief).
That may not be the reality of the situation, but how are we to know since communication between CSM and the general playerbase is woefully inadequate.
Currently it seems like the CSMs that do respond are simply acknowledging that yes they still exist and that the CSM minutes will be out some day. Selene said they should be out 100% today on the recent VandV podcast but I highly doubt it.
I joked once that by the time the CSM 7 minutes get released (assuming they ever do), we'll have already gone through CSM 8 elections and seen their meeting minutes first. Funny, but with each passing week it seems ever more poignant about CSM 7. Hijinks of a highsec pirate http://cyprusblack.blogspot.com/ |

There has been frustration in the CSM 7 that the minutes aren't in your hands yet and I haven't been posting much waiting to see what we can talk about once CCP has had their way with the minutes with their NDA-afier.
As for many of the other CSM, I see them being active in forums from time to time and there are some blogs worth checking once in a while.
I know I've certainly offered some opinions about the war dec changes, the mining barges and Technetium changes coming up and been in a couple of other threads when I thought I could add something. One thing to keep in mind, for some of us this is when we take summer vacations. I know the summer has impacted my Eve time (like it does every year) since the 4 weeks of decent weather in Seattle happen about now. :-)

Since I have been called out by some of the CSM 7 for speaking about them (or for them) I'm not sure its my place to comment about specific members of the CSM 7 at this point.
As to next year, man, too soon to even think about that, I just want to survive this year!

Frankly, I prefer to hear what the CSM's think about everything and anything within NDA and realistic limits.
I think it's paramount to hear what each CSM's view is on every facet of the game as it comes up.
I am not a proponent of calling people out as this can be an easy tool to just poopoo someone, whether it is earned or not.
Also, I think you've done a pretty good job this time around, as have Hans, Seleene and Two Step. TBH you are the 4 I am most encouraged by. CSM7 Skype Leak

You're deluded.
This was the guy who said "Drone Regions will be changed to normal rats, there, mining is fixed."
Given all the work that has gone into this CSM regarding mining, can you honestly not say this was at the very least a view with no basis in reality ?
Meanwhile he was playing around with Titan nerfs because PL were blobbing titans at his alliance, while starbases, contracts, and manufacturing were taking a back seat.
What a deluded point of view to say Mittani helped the whole player base. Mittani helped himself and did the bare minimum in areas that didn't concern him. CSM7 Skype Leak

The problem with calling out someone you see as useless is: It creates a hostile working environment. Which is more costly than just letting them ride (up to a point, of course)
And a hostile working environment can mess with the interactions the CSM have with CCP. Which isn't good. FuzzWork Enterprises http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/ Blueprint calculator, invention chance calculator, isk/m3 Ore chart-á and other 'useful' utilities. |

Given that any changes you make to mining mechanics would be completely and utterly worthless when there's huge sources of non-mined minerals in the game (both Drone Region alloys and meta-0 loot drops from rats), I'd say it's pretty firmly based in reality. It's not a coincidence that mining went up quite largely in all regions of space since both of those changes went live.
Of course it can use MORE work insofar as making the actual mechanics more interesting, or your ideas on having more in-game resources for corp-wide mining ops, that sort of thing. Without the above changes to actually make the mining profession worthwhile though, it all would have been for nought. |

Fixing mining isn't about making minerals cheaper.
It's about making mining worth doing. Which pretty much means making them more expensive. And you make things more expensive by reducing the supply. Removing the supply from non mining activities means the supply from mining activities becomes worth more.
Pretty much the only way to making mining worth it. The barge update is just gravy (tasty tasty gravy. Anyone want to buy a barge? ) FuzzWork Enterprises http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/ Blueprint calculator, invention chance calculator, isk/m3 Ore chart-á and other 'useful' utilities. |
