Yes, really. I am looking forward to walking around stations. Hoping theres more to do than just walking though.
Owning my own establishment might be fun. Call it the lonely pvp'er? Have gambling for isk between players. Maybe even create 'honest house games'. Well, honest according to what a Ferrengi defines the word as and a sign hanging above the bar that reads, 'Caveat Emptor'.
Some people have already stated how they might like to actually create clothing designs for others to wear.
Male/Female brothels maybe?
Anyone else have ideas on what could be done inside stations? I'm sure there are some good ones out there.
For those that are nerd raging, this thread isnt for you. Go create your own whine thread.

Yes, I am looking forward to it. Should be cool.
HOWEVER, just being able to walk around in stations was not worth the years of dev-time they gave up. Dev time that could've been used to make the spaceships part of the game so much better.

Anyone here play Earth and Beyond or more recently Star Trek: Online?
They had walking in station, and all it was is something that gets inbetween you and your spaceship.
Granted EvE's WIS is purely optional, which means it's unnecessary and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm concerned they won't pull it off well. It has to be very good after all these years of hype, and with all these other problems that have cropped up in its shadow.

I think most players are looking forward to this, there'll always be a certain percent that just doesn't care about anything in a new expansion, but CCP had a vision for Eve being an all-encompassing sci-fi one day, that's part of what attracted me to the game.
It isn't WIS's itself that has most people up in arms, it's the lack of attention broken pieces are getting and have been getting for some time while this new content (and other new content, PI...) get added.
So yea, I'm looking forward to it as well, I won't use it a whole lot I don't think, but it will be something new and something interesting. Plus players always surprise each other with what they can do given mechanics to work with. We may not see much in store, but someone will come up with something to do provided CCP makes it as sandboxy as they can. The groundwork, the very foundation of Eve, needs to be fixed first though.

Played Star Trek Online on the 5 day trial. I stopped after day 4 of the trial.
I would agree that the STO version of walking in stations left much to be desired. But the entire game wasn't all that good either.
Hoping the content in station will be more player driven.

I can't wait! Just look how great PI is! Those pins look so cool!
I'd expect nothing less than mind blowing coolness from CCP.

Because the Data you collected provided the statistics to support this claim.
I will agree it will be a nice additional feature, and that your statement about the uproar is more to do with lack of attention broken and unfinished features arent getting. However, it shouldnt be taking a front seat over the current broken game.

Personally, I think walking in stations will be cool, especially as a drop off point for other content.
It will get even better when it starts being useful for things using non-capsuleer characters; imagine stepping out of your demigod shoes for a time to play as another character in the eve universe - or just boss them around to do your bidding...

What i would like to see is people start to give public talks in stations where other players can attent. CCP could even implement some kind of "Powerpoint Presentation"-Ability, where the presenting player could have a powerpoint style slideshow playing behind him on a huge display. Players could hold all kinds of talks, like playing the Market, PVP-Theories ecetera. They could possible even be held in closed rooms that you can only access if you pay to attent to the presentation. |

Send minions out on shopping trips, with capsuleer controlled camera drones spying on them, and making some people who know what they are say "oh my God I'm being seen by a demigod" and react appropriately.
Command ground forces and armies in the battle for control of entire worlds and their industrial facilities...
Be a benevolent demigod and set up cities on planets, keep an eye on them, and have god-like control over your population; a middle ground between The Sims and Sim City.
Sabotage, spying, espionage, third-party characters with cyber-implants acting as third-body avatars in places beyond the pod. There are so many things that a capsuleer could do with full control of another man's (or woman's) body...

In STO you could communicate with your mission agent, accept missions/get rewards all remotely. The only reason to go into the station would be to get on the market and store your stuff, which would be a lot like EVE. So, in essence, I don't see much of a difference other than in STO you could deal with Agents without docking.

I want to be able to go on a station and play a game of cards. Even bet my ship on it, but I don't care about poker as some dev mentioned some years ago, I find that game boring. I want to play the now out-of-print EVE card game. A game of EVE inside my game of EVE.

I'm actually looking forward to it. It will add a different dimension to the game. It's not about whether it is necessary or not since after all, is anything really necessary in a game?

I think it will be a very sweet addition, However With the sheer size of stations as in they look to be something like 100 miles wide or more will there be a limit to where we can go? Or will we be able to explore all of the station?

Only one big reason I'm looking forward to it is that magicians like those behind the Clear Skies movies will then be able to really go overboard creating stunning EVE movies.

The amount of level design would be far in excess of what a 200 man dev team could accomplish in six months for just one station. And there are dozens of models. I imagine for each station there will be pilot quarters, a promenade and shops.

Well, Olleybear already touched on *****s in space, for all your virtual phonesex needs. What else might we see? A whole new laggy interface! Doors to block! People to teamkill! (if there's a PvP aspect to this WoW in space thing.) Entirely new methods of griefing!
I personally can't wait until I can spec into stealthing and waltz into somebody else's hangar and make off with all their goods. Maybe I won't even care about not being able to undock without lag!

I've seen the early models and the texture mapping. It is going to be -stunning- to look at. I don't doubt it for a moment.
My problem is: I don't see the added value. How am I going to be making any money in that station that I can't right now?
If it was a home for a pilot, a place where s/he registered that was like an actual address, and that could be adorned with furniture and fittings that could be made from stuff found in space, a new business model, a new reason for pew pew, industry and intrigue, then yes.
It would take an -exceedingly- good feature set to get that right. I'm not saying it can't be done, I don't know whether it can be done well by CCP in 2010.
If there was a direct relation to what the pilot was involved in in space, if it added and supported that effort in a way that can't be done in the current configuration, I'd be all for it.
Right now? I can't see why I would want to walk in stations.
The only real effect I'd see would be from a small corp that got war decced by a bunch of pirates looking to put the squeeze on the newbies. Now they can't undock and do anything. After Incarna, they'll just go to the bar and play that table game CCP has demoe'd. The pirates can hang outside the station until the cows come home.
I'd prefer to be pleasantly surprised and be offered a feature set that would show me "this is why you wanted to do that."
If its only goal is to attract more players then we're getting the kind of people who don't understand, nor will they accept, how EVE really works.
But maybe it won't work anymore the way it works now...
Maybe Incarna is CCP's venture into a new EVE where all the pesky nerds who rage about lag are a thing of the past as they go to a customer base they can advertise to.
I'm starting to scare myself here.

Waaaaaaaay back when they first started talking about actually getting out of your pod and strolling around, I thought it sounded pretty cool. My friends and I imagined the pod cloning equipment would get small enough so that it was just an implant, and that we could get some FPS pvp going on. Maybe tracking down your arch enemy in low sec and ganking him in a back alley on his way back from buying a pretty new dress...
Missions where you'd pew pew some ships, then dock up with the enemy faction station to go inside and complete some sort of objective...
But no, no action, just silly stuff like MAKING YOUR OWN CLOTHING!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll take a peek inside my favorite stations, just to see what they look like then I'll get back in my ship and spin it. Dust514? I don't own a console, and it's not like I'm going to go out and spend the money on one AND a subscription to xbox live or whatever just so I can play one game.

I was looking forward to "planetary interaction" but we got Pin wars instead now I have to look at Star Wars Old Republic MMO released in 2011 for real Planetary interaction because Sticking pin tacks into planets just doesn't do it for me.
Walking in stations, what pins do we stick on rooms to occupy them? Is it going to be like Some Cleudo board game with pins or snakes and ladders?
