Hey all!
I'm quite new to this game, although I gave it a try a couple of years ago.
I really want to get into EVE, but it feels so massive and it's quite lonely flying around without anyone to talk to.
I'd like to join a helpful organization who accept and teach beginners :)
I got experience from Freelancer, Anarchy Online and World of Warcraft. Mainly Anarchy Online which I've been playing for 6-7 years.
I'm growing into the basics as we speak and would love to receive a mail if there are anyone who would appericate a dedicated player.
My focus of interest is in moneymaking and PvP. What kind of moneymaking, I haven't thought of yet.
Send a mail ingame? Name's Fixwing.
GG :)

This is not the place for recruitment. Look/post in the relevant section of the forums or try the ingame channel.

If you want to find a good corp then you might want to check this section of the forums: Corp and Alliance Recruitment

Not to put you down or anything... but everything you have learned in all those other MMOs... unlearn it. Quickly. The "rules" (or lack of thereof) in EvE are vastly different.

My advice? Dabble a bit in everything and find a focus. Then specialize towards that focus. EvE will get very hard if you go the "jack-of-all-trades" route too early on.
As for making money... what catches your fancy? Trade? Industry? Combat? Exploration?
- Trade is not hard to skill up for but requires a good eye and some basic mathematic skills. Pros: Good if you only have a limited amount of time to play and you can amass wealth relatively easily. Cons: You require a bit of capital to start off with. It's also quite boring hauling stuff around and you're on the bottom of the "food chain" combat-wise. A "loner" profession.
-Industry is very skill intensive and requires a good deal of math to calculate material amounts and profit margins. Pros: Good if you like to play in a more "laid back" fashion. You can also make your own ships and mods for cheaper than the market price. Cons: You need to mine a bit early on and mining is often compared to pulling teeth (i.e. it's BORING). Like with trade, you are on the bottom of the combat "food chain," however you are at more risk as you have to venture out of station more often to accomplish your tasks. To get into more advanced industry you also have to create a corp (or become a part of a corp) and set up structures that could potentially be attacked.
Combat is pretty much everywhere is EvE. If you can make ISK off of doing combat, you can make ISK anywhere. Pros: Running missions and doing PvP require pretty much the same skills, so war-decs won't be a real issue if you know how to fit your ship and handle yourself on the field. Ransoming/Pirating can also be pretty fun if you like to walk on the dark side of EvE. Cons: Mission running can be a lot like mining, very dull. PvP on the other hand requires a bit of player skill to pull off and be "profitable" at. Ransoming and pirating can also be a bit of a problem if you like to shop in high-sec (1.0 - 0.5 space)
Exploration is takes a good balance of player and character skill to pull off. Pros: Easy to skill for and probing skills are INVALUABLE to both industrial and combat corps. You can also make a crapton of ISK living in wormholes and raiding the sites in them. Cons: You need a bit of combat ability to clear out the NPC "rats" in certain scannable sites.
Hope this helps. _______________________

Yes it is.. er, massive.. but it won't hurt, I promise..
as for moneymaking... well that is what you will be doing for your masters. As a serf in Eve, your function is to pay rent and provide cannon fodder to feed into the machine that defends your master's isk generating sources. So forget about isk making. Just get in fleet and listen to your FC. That is all you need to know.

Edited by: Dr Reinhold on 02/08/2010 15:31:13 You are on the right track by deciding early on that you need to find a good corp. Lots of corps will take a new pilot but you don't need to jump at the very first you find. Watch the recruitment forum for a while and see what is our there. Be sure to look for one that fits your philosophy. Are you a pirate, an anti-pirate or don't care? Want to stay in hisec or go to lowsec, nullsec or w-space? There are companies of every shape and size that will take newbies.
If you want some time to decide but still want to get into a good learning company fast join the channel E-UNI and go to http://www.eve-ivy.com/ You will learn lots and there is no obligation to stay. You will meet lots of people, make lots of contacts, have a lot of fun all while you take your time looking for a permanent corporation.

There is always EVE University. A very respected corp for getting your space legs.
