We are missing a few, so I thought I would do one..
Solo PvP is dead, yet I still see many people giving it a go and getting good results. What would C&P say a good Solo PvP ship (like as in really solo, not solo with an alt) would be. As how you fly a ship is as important as you fit it, please try and include an actually description of how it is to be flown so we can have some sort of discussion on it rather than just dumping an EFT theorycraft fit in to the thread and walking away..
What would you take on? What wouldn't you take on? How would you stop yourself getting blobbed? Would you only stay in lowsec or would you take your fit out to 0.0??

These days if your going to go solo you need some form of E-warfare fitted, if not for an offensive reason it might give you a chance to get the upper hand or bug out if things arn't going well.

A good solo ship would be the resistance bonus of the abaddon, add the tracking bonus of the destroyers, the damage bonus to projectile turrets as the mega, the ecm bonus of the falcon, energy neut bonus of the curse, and the drone bonus of the moros. It would have 8 lows, 6 meds, and 8 highs.
This would allow the alpha pwnage of the projectiles that could track like a laser. It would allow you to use a heavy neut at a distance and jam your target so they cant jam you back. The drone bonus ability of a moros along with the auxiliary med slots you could add tracking mods.

Guess this confirms that C&P is indeed the wasteland of crap threads.
So mission running noobs that hang out in here talking about your ratting fits and modules, what PvP ships or fits do you have any experience with that hasn't gotten blown up in 30 seconds and might stand a chance of getting away should a blob (that's 'large number of ships flow by people that want to kill you', not 'large amount of rats that you can tank in a cruiser') decide they like the look of your modules and wish to forcibly remove them from your ship.

I guess as the patron saint of WCS, you should know all about this. Of course most people would prefer a setup that doesn't guarantee that they will lose and be forced to warp out, but hey, at least your ships will always be able to warp away from anything less than a HIC!
As for the question, my top three:
1) Nanocane. Faster and more agile than most cruiser hulls, enough dps to take down a pretty good range of targets, and neuts/drones/high tracking to remove those pesky frigate tacklers. And best of all, it's dirt cheap so you can afford to take some risks.
2) Nano Gila. What's not to like about this ship? Fast, insane tank for a cruiser hull, plenty of dps, plenty of frigate defense (3x AML II + neuts + bonused warrior IIs = goodbye frigate). Ok, so it's a Moa hull, but I guess you have to make some sacrifices.
3) Nano Curse. Fast (starting to sense a theme here?), virtually immune to turret ships, carries the neuts from hell, and is one of the best looking ships in the game. The only real drawback is the lack of dps, especially if your opponent is smart enough to shoot your drones. Of course you have the speed and neuts to pick your targets, so it's not like a Drake has any chance of doing more than popping more ISK in T2 drones than you're going to get from the wreck.
Honorable mention goes to the Tengu with ECM offensive system (for the drone bay) and nano fit. I think the setup has a lot of potential, with solid dps combined with enough speed and frigate defense to avoid the problems that plague the standard gank Tengu, but the half a billion ISK price tag is just too much for me to fly it as anything other than a covops scout + gang booster.
As for how to fly them, simple: be fast as hell (preferably with snakes), fit a faction point, and stay at a nice safe 25km or so while your target dies. Kill anything faster than you as your top priority, and you can just laugh at even small gangs as they try to kill you. And of course if all else fails (or if local starts to spike), just MWD away and warp out.
This last part is probably the most important: success in solo PvP is all about staying alive. You aren't going to earn a net gain in ISK off solo PvP if you charge in recklessly and die, or if you fly a solo battleship that can't run away when local spikes. This is the reason why nano-fit cruiser hulls are the best solo PvP ships: they bring enough dps to get the job done, but still have the GTFO ability that you desperately need. -----------

A good solo ship is the one you can fly well. Also one that suits your style of playing. Also if you are only for the kill then you don't need cargo, but if you want to loot and salvage the ships...you need cargospace.
From my experience the best solo ship would be the ones where you can choose the starting point for your engagement. With this I mean sneaking up to them with a cloak or jamming them so much that you can choose your angle of attack/range.
Doesn't really help to have a short range attack ship when the victim is always far from you and will see you coming. Surprise is the key. Stop whining. |

If your only goal is getting some relatively easy kills and not the duke it out tactical fight you always leave fulfilled win or lose.
Then, I would recommend stealh bombers for this.

Actually, there is a ship that comes close to this, and it isn't all that expensive: the Claymore.
Battlecruiser Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret rate of fire and 7.5% bonus to Shield Booster effectiveness per level
Command Ships Skill Bonus: 7.5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret tracking speed
3 utility highs, excellent resists for shield tank, and can be fit for speed as effectively as any Minmatar BC. The tracking bonus plus some TE means you do not have to worry about frigate tacklers. With drones it does more damage than any Recon, and is even cheaper than some of them.

Favorite solo ship of all time is a Pilgrim.
Pros: Cap warefare, Turret Ewar, good drone bay, able to do a nice buff/active tank, enough CPU (with recon 5) to fit a probe launcher for mission/plex busting, cloaky, and a fairly nasty reputation for being a mean ship.
Cons: Limited engagement range due to lack of range bonuses Neuts, kinda slow, needs a web, not able to deal with more then 1-2 targets, once something goes wrong, the ship dies horribley.
How do you fly it? Simple, fly it like you stole it!. It is a ship that takes a fair amount of micro managing, but can engage a large range of ships. I've taken on AF's, BC's, HACs, anything with turrets really.

Wouldn't an active tank be a viable option if you assume you're going solo or are you nano-ing the Cyclone? It may not get a huge tank (and CPU is tight on the ship (too tight)) but could it take away enough DPS to come out on top? That and well...soloing active tanking Cyclone coming out on top of a fight is pure win.

The active tanking Cyclone relies too much on crystals and blue pill for my comfort. Under the circumstances I'd expect to reasonably be under and for my price point, the buffer tank wins out. Since I learned how to mission properly, I'm getting pretty rich though... I may start flying an active tanked cyclone just for kicks.

This, sadly.
Otherwise, Dramiel/Cynabal to gank the easy stuff and run away from anything else.
And Pilgrim/Curse, seriously. Who in their right mind engages those all on his own?
/edit From my own experience, as soon as i jump into anything bigger than a frig hull i just end up getting ****d in some random gatecamp/trap/DPS ship + falcon ****up.
I just stick to dirt cheap frigates and try not to die horribly while i engage pretty much everything i can. (And still it's rather hard. The amount of people who run from a tristan is insane. At least in FW ) ----------------------------- Pew pew!

Having done lots of solo pvp in my time, I would say my favorite ship to solo in is the dominix.
I understand what all the other people are saying about the nano-canes/curses/etc. However, I just find nano ships normally incredibly boring to fly.
I fit my dominix with a full low slot active tank, cap boosters, tackle, and propulsion in the mids and medium turrets in the high slots. This may seem like a fail fit at first however you must consider, solo pvp is dead. Nobody else runs around in solo ships and when you do find them, its very rare. What I bank on is going up against multiple other opponents. This requires me to have a large tank over anything else. Sometimes I fly with my alt who runs a 3 armor gang link legion to boost my 7 slot tank even further. With this boost, my domi can tank around 2000dps before overload with only 1 faction EANM.
The dps isn't great but it does enough to kill BCs, cruisers, frigs, and fail fitted BSs. This means you can warp into a gang of 3 - 4 BCs and potentially win. I find these 1 v gang situations to be the most fun and the most likely fight you will get.
The best part about this is that the dominix is a t1 battleship and doesnt cost very much to fit or lose, the rigs being the biggest part of the equation.
