I'm cool with "walking in stations" as long as the walking in stations process sits on something other than the single Celeron laptop that CCP uses for serving all of nullsec.

The electronic system in the Model-T actually powers the servers.....

Intensely looking forward to Incarna; I just hope the system specs won't outrun my poor aging desktop.
I kinda doubt Incarna will include any depictions that would get it an "M" rating. Eve may get relatively few teenagers, but I doubt CCP wants to change that "T" for violence they currently get to display.
CCP stated a while back (as in, years) that Incarna wouldn't initially include any combat, but they did mention that, "knowing our players," there'd definitely be demand for stationside combat. So-- "not now, but maybe someday" seems to be the answer there.
Unless they changed their minds, but nothing I've seen so far has suggested fighting. So....
Two more questions: will direct interactions with DUST players will be possible through Incarna, and will combat on stations (if/when it happens) be done through DUST?

the new dedicate a node server box thing has worked to some extent, had 900 angry russians on system the other day with no noticable lag. till i got popped, ofc

initailly is just another word for I'm going to be able to kill people in station without having to bother to peel them out of a ship first. Just a good gun, decent armor, and maybe three of my friends so we can crouch. stand. repeat. tea bag the corps for posterity on fraps.

even better for evil figure out where he keeps his clone, kill ship, pod, have friends waiting in station to kill him again. SP hits make tears that much more sweeter. With incarna the possibility for pvp will expand.

So many have been looking forward to that, esp with all the stuff they plan on doing in the stations. Would be nice to get out of my pod and sit in a bar instead of spinning my ship.

Yeah, I don't exactly care for Incarna either. Though, it will bring more people to EVE Online, so let it be. _

I've been looking forward to Incarna for years; if it's well-executed, I'll be pleased. The idea of walking in stations has lost some lustre since 2006, but it's still a pretty exciting concept to me.
I hope Incarna won't affect the primary gameplay and (for lack of a better term) "game balance" of EVE ù not now, not years from now, not ever. Station PvP or a new, station-based method of earning serious ISK (beyond gambling, which is a zero-sum endeavor in relation to the economy) would upset me.
I'll keep playing anyway, though, so whatever happens, I'll just have to bend over and take it. ________________

Congratulations, that is years of work. No fun. No killing inside stations, nothing even worth it. Just getting out of your spaceship. Wowzors.

Edited by: Janya Rykayn on 06/09/2010 06:12:45 I suspect that Incarna is just one step in an incremental process
First there will be walking in stations. Soon enough there will be shooting in stations. Then there will be walking on planets. Driving on planets. Flying around on planets.
Millions of procedurally-generated planets to walk around on and explore, to place stations on, to engage in ground combat on.
"Incarnation" outside of spacecraft is a necessary thing that has to happen for any of this to occur. Rather than trying to rush it all out at once, CCP are very intelligently rolling out a portion of it to act as a testbed in such a way that it doesn't substantially interfere with the core operation of their flagship product.
Eve has to evolve and grow or it will perish. I have so much time and energy invested in Eve that I'm very happy that they're interested in keeping it moving forward. There are many established and deep-pocketed companies that would very much like to eat CCP's lunch.
Therefore, Eve has to be a moving target.
Overall I have the overwhelming feeling that we're going to very happy indeed that they had the guts to take this step.
Haters gonna hate.
What's it going to be like walking around on some of those shattered Gurista stations?

So which is it? "We don't want Second Life" or "Hurry the hell up?"
There is no satisfying the troll brigade.
Personally I support CCP. They are the only game company that gets any of my money (or would, if they required me to pay, which they inexplicably do not!)
I'm looking forward to what they do with Incarna. I'm looking forward to their Vampire product.
I'm just fine with long release schedules-- in fact, the people complaining about long release schedules are often the very same people complaining about the bugs in esoteric subsystems of Eve. They're the same people throwing thousands of ships into fleet fights and then wondering why the game lags.
Why not vote with your wallets and move on to some other game, something that offers everything you're asking for?
The obvious answer? You don't do this because you can't, because nothing else out there even comes close, and all of you know this. Thus the constant trolling and complaints are completely pointless.

I'd like to take a short break and talk to you about regression testing. This is the process of testing your software to find out if you have broken anything major before continuing on with your release. It is usually done because customers have an expectation that your software will improve with time and not get worse. This would not seem to be a particularly unreasonable expectation.
8 to 12 months ago you could reasonably expect to put 1000 ships in the same system and have a fight. Yes it would run a little slow and interesting things would happen, but it would run. Today, I have seen lag with a 10 man fleet attacking a 6 man fleet.. That's 16 people. That's 1.6% of the fleet size you would have expected to cause that much lag 12 months ago.
To me, that's 98.4% suck.
And you are right. There is no game out there with the scope and playability of eve. I for one do not have the opinion that CCP should take the attitude that they can suck because they is no alternative. I also believe that CCP themselves do not see this as a valid attitude (given all the recent devblogs). I wonder why you do.

I hope we can STILL access our agents and stuff from the ship hangar.
I would find it absolutely hilarious if we should move to from hangar deck (floor -300) up to commercial floor on top of the station to get our business conducted with the agent XY. AND then taking the elevator back to hangar deck to board the ship...
The only entertaining effect would indeed be the ability to go kill *ingame* the weasel that annoyes you to no end. Also blowing up his ship would be lovely.
But I suppose it's down to erotic dance in front of your enemy or just rubbing his imaginary shoulders and ridiculing her for being him, immature, middle aged man who likes to play women in internetspaceshipgame?
boring...
And yes. New professions: jeweller, cook, hairdresser etc.. and all should have bunch of skills that needs to be V... the good side would be that charisma would actually be needed to train to advanced levels?

How about this, people go fight on a planet, they are happily shooting and teabagging their young online friends, then Mr Chribba rolls his Avatar in a high stationary orbit, perhaps with a couple supercapable friends of his, and they do the mighty deathstar trick and poof, everyone fighting on the planet is podded/murdered/demolished-to-bits? How lulzable would that be?

I'm very interested in Incarna.
It gives me something to do instead of ship spinning, a new way of interacting with people, the possibility of minigames within EVE, and I dont doubt more people will start to play EVE.
That, and people will be able to see how fine I am in 3D.
