So far, the electronic attack frigates are really just there without anywhere to go after training the skills needed. It seems pointless to train EAFs, only to find that the recon ships need covert ops to be trained instead of EAFs. I'm not saying that they're useless, far from it. What I'm trying to say is there should be a step up after them, something like a destroyer or a cruiser sized variant?
Just throwing this thought out there, I feel like the EAFs just need a hug. Please discuss. |

EAFs do need a bit of a boost. "Make them into a prereq" isn't it. Maybe they should be a prereq for Recons (or maybe not, since half of the recons do covops cloak). But what they really need is a bit of a buff to increase their actual usability. As-is, they're far to fragile for their price tag, especially when their role screams "primary me" (and how squishy they are makes them even better candidates for primary-ing them off the field fast).
There are many threads that have been made which suggest various buffs to the EAFs (personally, I think a sig reduction and tank increase is the best starting step for them). However, we haven't really heard much of anything from CCP about them.
I would guess that they and BlOps will be at the top of the rebalancing list when they get around to T2 ships, but they're still working on T1 frigs now, so it could be a little bit. |

Well, with the Winter Addon, they will rebalance the T1-Hulls of the EAF-¦s, so I think this will although buff the EAF-¦s a little bit. A Sentinel with probably 5 light drones will surely be something, allthough it maybe only got an EM-Damage-Bonus, because the Helios only got a Therm-Damage-Bonus. Lets see if this will be enough of a buff to use them, but I think it will not be enough in comparison to a combat recon, beside price and skill difference. |

From the EAF Description wrote:Electronic attack ships are mobile, resilient electronic warfare platforms. Although well suited to a variety of situations, they really come into their own in skirmish and fleet encounters, particularly against larger ships. If this were actually true, I think that EAFs would be pretty solid. Hyena could use an additional buff, perhaps, but I think an across the board increase in speed and tank would work wonders for improving the battlefield performance of EAFs. |

They should just give them a 35% to 50%/lvl bonus to AB speed and maybe a slight range increase and voila...mostly fixed. |

The only experience I have with EAF is with Sentinel. It's wasn't so nice. It's only got potential. It delivers very little. That's how I am left to "feel". It's the little one that could but does not. It's too thin. It's too weak. Feels naked to the bone. One mistake? Last mistake! It's as if they designed these to do a job but then made sure it can't deliver. Just so...
They definitely feel weak. They only work on a specific set of circumstances that seldom happen IRL, really. There is always a better hull around for that set of circumstance anyway,
Give AEF an edge where it counts. Frigate hull, so high scan resolution and since T2 hull, long target range and high sensor strength. Recons have obscene lock-ranges; So should EAFs. |

I noticed a lot of ships would be interesting if they had that bonus, but CCP never added it. I never got behind why :/.
As for EAF/Hyena etc, I think that EAFs are harder to balance. Some are dead-solid in terms of their usage and adding bonuses on top could throw the balance off the board. Somewhere, they are quite powerful in their role. I just can't figure what I would suggest as an idea that wouldn't make them too strong.
While I like the AB speed bonus, I'd rather see that elsewhere. My only issue with EAFs is that they are more of a Tier 1.5 than T2 to me. Nevertheless, that webbing bonus on Hyena is quite strong.

I suppose the player-driven market is what is making the price go up. If a love patch would hit, they would get even more expensive.
I will be derailing slightly with the next paragraph but it has indirectly to do with the role/class screaming "primary me!"; That is one of the reasons why I suggested something like Dscan and Overview only showing the base hull name of enemy players ship and not the actual name, should it be Vigil, Hyena etc. It would not have caused any major imbalances and aside to knowing what corp/fleet mates are flying Recon and Covops would be the ones to see the real ones.
Anyhow, it would at least put the "LOOK I'M AN EAF - SHOOT ME" threat a bit down. However, such an idea requires a few more variants of hulls. Likewise, people would want to shoot down a Vigil too. Nevertheless, it just attracted meaningless troll posts.
I will reitertate that idea sometime later. confirthisposmed

honestly, I think EAF's should be transitioned into a 'sniper EWAR' platform.
think of it like this: why can't EAF's get down and dirty in a brawl? They're too fragile.
What are they supposed to do? Decentralize EWAR.
Recons currently operate at 30-100 km effectively.
If EAF's were effective 100-200km, they could have some utility.
Seems overpowered? Perhaps fleets would start to carry a couple snipers onboard, or would create targets the "the cloud"
you know that cloud of interceptors that forms around a fleet while they're fighting? You know, the ones for pings?
If that cloud was now also comprised of EAF's (decentralized EWAR) and that cloud was a roiling ring of a smaller, seconday battle going on, then Fleet dynamics could become much more interesting. |
