Just saying, it would be a lot easier if amarr skills were yellow, caldari blue, matar red, and gallente green.
At least for me it would make the skills easier on the eyes than just the bland grey all the books are now. |

I like the idea !
It would make things easier for new players and does not seem to be something that is hard to do.

So what about skills that are cross factions? Amarr gold, Gallente green = armor tanks greenish?
I think people just need to accept a little work instead of demanding total convenience. In this case READING the skill descriptions is required. And if that fails, as a friend or corp mate. |

I think that certificates work well for this already.
I bet the OP is one of those people who also want to be able to unlearn skills so they are not confused when picking a skill to train because you know... it is so confusing. |

Eve is too hard. You have to read skill descriptions now. Eve is dying. It's also important to remember that this is a signature. |

I think iconised/colour coded skill graphics are a much needed improvement to the UI - great idea. |

Because reading is hard, right?
Think about it that way: ships have descriptions -> ship descriptions tell you what guns the ship gives bonuses to -> guns have descriptions -> gun description tells you what the gun is (short or long range) and what size it is.
Also, too many skills are omni directional. So marking them with an 8 pointed star to say 'F-all' is useless.
Please stop dumbing down Eve. Be patient, read the description and think if this might be what it means. If you still have questions, ask around. |

Did you check out the test server?
You'll like the changes to the Search/Market browser.
And the "required for" tab on skillbooks. Someone once said I was a muppet. If that's so, I'm quite sure the Swedish Chef is my brother.-á |

Actually no, since new players would have to actually learn the whole color coding system before anything else. And there would be an insane color coding since it would be the original 4 empires, then the various combinations that exists such as Amarr - Gallente, Amarr - Minmitar, and so on and so on.
I am guestimating that there would have to be nearly 20 colors to cover almost all variations. |

I suppose a lot of the skills are indeed 'omni directional' or abstract in their nature/purpose - but that doesn't mean that the game developers shouldn't at least attempt to clarify their identities and provide a more seamless interface for players. Aesthetics are really important to functionality in any kind of design. It's not dumbing down EvE, rather, it would be improving it in my opinion. |

Considering that most of the information in this game one has to learn by reading outside of it, it's hardly a stretch. No one needs 20 colors. 4 would do for some general skills, if they cross empires, make the strip split into 2 colors. Rally I'm not a huge proponent of this as to write up some big letter to the devs, but if implemented in a basic form it would speed browsing a bit.

A small, small minority of skills actually relate to specific races. Off the top of my head I can think of lasers (amarr) projectiles (minmatar) and specific ship skills. So that's what, 34 out of several hundred skills? And then you'll get newbies never training, say, hull upgrades and fitting damage controls to minmatar ships because the skill is the wrong color. |

If it's a racial skill you could use 1 of 4 colors.
If not a racial skill leave it grey. OMG! |

First of all, I do not think this is necessary.
But if it were to be implemented anyway I would lock it with certificates. As in you highlight a certain branch, let's say core skills , and then all the core skills would be coloured in your skill tree when you browse. Could spare you some going back and forward between tabs but as I said , do not think it should be priority. |

The only racial skills are those for t1 racial ships, and they already say their race as the first word in the skill name. "Amarr Titan" doesn't need to be yellow because you can just read it. This is the least useful idea ever. |

I never said it's for use, I said it's for visuals. Grey is really bland, and adding color would be nice. |

I think a better idea would be to add small icons on the skillbooks , for example all the navigation skills would have the MWD/afterburner symbol next to them and gunnery skills would have the heat sink/gyro/magstab symbol , ect.. |

This is what I would go for. Also maybe give us the option of an actual skill _map_ showing what we've got and what is accessible/what needs what prereqs.
Not that these things are hard to figure out or find on the internet, it just seems like a cop-out to have a ****** UI because players will put **** on the internet. And when someone asks me what skills I they should train, I'd kind of like to be able to just pop open the skill interface and immediately see the prereqs for all the skills I'm recommending so I don't have to click through 200 damned info windows that close as soon as I open a new one. |
