I miss the trails that you used to get when you were taveling fast or just coming out of warp it made incoming ships look soo much cooler, im guessing they were removed because they when multilped 1000 times took up far too much GPU load but couldnt you just have an option to turn them off or on, or is there an option to turn them on because im usually running eve at like 100 fps and its a bit pointless seeing as my screen is only 50Hz

I don't think they were removed to reduce GPU load. I can remember fitting an AB to a Mammoth just to have ridiculously long trails as i approached the gates from 15k at a snails pace. Things like that probably 'broke the immersion' for people.

call my silly but the 1 graphical change I miss the most was when you were firing 8 guns, they didn't always fire on the same spot of the ship, it used to spread them out so you fired on multiple parts, which was far more epic when you were firing guns 1 at a time and they weren't grouped. Now all 8 shots will hit the antenna sticking out of a raven as it must the most critical part of the ships reactor, and requires 8 blaster hits simultaneously to take it out, sometimes several volleys depending on your ships position!

Heh I started playing in '04 so it was way old but yeah I bet with lasers it makes more sense to focus on a single target and it seemed more "epic" of a change but it just looks plain silly when you have 8 things beatin on the most useless part of a ship =p It made more sense to me to be targeting multiple more critical parts then the other, but it was probably .000023 seconds faster to not do the multi-hitting graphic or some such.

I never got a chance to use a ship with the trails but I've seen EVE videos on YouTube and they look great! It's odd that they removed them. I hope they come back as a toggle-able feature.

I've never seen the 'old' ones, but yes, being a speed freak, having no difference between wether my ship has an AB running or not is disapointing. GIEF US LONG FIRE TRAILS!
If nothing else, they're awesome to make pretty patterns ;)

And yeah, they were removed for performance reasons, last round of this topic got a brief dev response stating as much.

Here's the only video i could find back from 2004 that showed some of the multiple hits stuff, if you watch as they shoot the station they shoot from the same location but onto multiple parts of the station at the same time, which isn't the best example of how it worked but give's ya an idea.

Does Eve have effects? I thought it was red squares, blues squares and purple squares. These squares occasionally develop flashing yellow and red outlines, then I broadcast for reps, then I see my shield bar going down, and then the shield bar goes back up. Meanwhile I lock the flashing red outlined red squares and activate my turrets - but not before turning auto repeat and auto reload off. I know if im hitting because I see their shield bars turn from white to red.
The only effects I remember seeing are the station backgrounds - which are pretty average compared to other games.

By Tarvu, did you take the booster that makes you speak in run on sentences? But yeah, I can only imagine how cool that looked, but honestly I started doing boosters after that was over with. Sounds cool though.

I miss trails, the old cyno effect, and the way that turret fire would light up the side of your ship and nearby roids/objects.

Although i agree they looked cool, i do understand why they are gone, and now is probably not the best time to attempt to bring them back in-game.
Also really it would be unrealistic to have them on eve-ships. I highly doubt any ship as advanced as those in eve would still be using a combustion based fuel for propulsion....well maybe the mimatar, crazy bunch.

They got removed due to them requiring too much GPU/CPU power to render under Scene2 (what the second Trinity upgrade was called). ---
