*throws some time into Evemon*
The forums have concluded that CNR's higher dps output makes it superior to a tengu in most lv4 missions. However I don't really want to train cruise V and Cal BS V since they are kinda useless outside of missioning, while cruiser V and T3 have more applications. So is the margin of difference within the 10% damage output?
So how do they compare if I'm not going to full skill the ship?
*note: i can afford deadspace fitting everything, if that is a factor

Edited by: raukosen on 18/08/2010 19:15:24 If you want to stay at BS IV and Cruise IV then the Tengu would outperform the CNR in kinetic missions (Guristas, Serpentis, EoM), but (without having done the math) the CNR would still probably be better in non-kinetic missions, especially EM ones. Angel missions, less so but still.
The Tengu is a very good missioning ship. The skill requirements falling in line with what you want to train anyway is really one of the better reasons to get a Tengu.

The 10% difference in damage output is a theoretical 10% speed difference.
Maths!
Anyways, the Tengu can get to and from missions faster, move between gates, and hit the cruisers better then the raven, not to mention a better tank and sig radius for the harder missions.

The answer probably depends on what percentage of your missions are against kin-weak enemies. If you're fighting Blood Raiders and Sansha most the time, you'll still want the CNR.
By the way, fighting BRs and Sansha is great in Ravens. Forget the EM tank hole you have, it's irrelevant. What is relevant is the ability to be essentially unaffected by their E-War (well, less affected in the case of neuts).
Editted -- wow, I'm too slow.

Approximately 70% of the caldari navy missions favor IV CNR over the tengu This includes the "bulky" dps+mass enemy misions, like angel EXT, gurista EXT, blockade, smuggler interception, blabla
While 30% of the missions favor the tengu. Which is mostly low paying missions like zazzmataz, recon2/3, recon 3/3, cargo delivery, the score etc etc or blitzable missions like...uh forgot. UMP definitely
When im saying "favouring tengu", i mean "they will complete mission faster because of their warp speed, NOT their damage/dps/wateva

The raven is infinitely more useful than the-
-Moa... -Ferox... -Caracal... -Drake... -Eagle... -Cerb... -Vulture... -Nighthawk...
... and only slightly less than the rook/falcon. Oh, and that bubblethingamajigg

The Tengu can tank better than the CNR, moves a whole lot faster than the CNR, and only slows down compared to the CNR when fighting battleships.
If the mission is battleship-heavy, the Tengu will record slower completion times.

Edited by: Frozean on 19/08/2010 05:09:46 TP-triple rigor ravens do 100% damage to anything bigger then destroyers. (cruiser hull and above). The destroyer dies with only 3 cruise missile shots anyways (out of 7).
Non elite frigates also die in one shot to 7/7 cruise missiles (most of them)
So no, raven does more damage then tengu for anything above cruiser hull, EVEN MORE SO if the target is not kinetic-weakest.
Kinetic weakest is only serpentis, EOM, guristas, caldari and mordus.

As far as I know tengu is still a cruiser hull so i don't think that it can outperform CNR.
Btw the question was about Navy Raven and it doesn't get bonus to kinetic missiles. It gets bonuses:
5% bonus to Siege and Cruise Missile Launcher Rate Of Fire and 10% bonus to Torpedo and Cruise Missile Velocity per level of skill
so it doesn't realy matter who do u shoot.

Edited by: Frozean on 19/08/2010 11:58:59 im saying, raven is better even on kinetic enemies, and multitudes better in non kinetic-weakest enemies, because tengu relies on its 25% kinetic bonus to do damage.
Although tengu is a cruiser, it IS very expensive to have one. Jita prices for a fully subb'd one could be near 500m for it.
While the raven can rainbow no problem, including drones.

So basicly, what you're saying is that the Raven is ghey?
