Edited by: Thalysia on 20/08/2010 21:46:30 Yesterday I started 9 invention jobs. Blackbird 3-run copies, 5 times falcon and 4 times rook. I used a decryptor on all jobs (so 9 total) Prototype Diagram .
Today the jobs were done and I got 2 rook prints and 2 falcon prints. I'd say a nice result. But........there is only one run on all copies. I used the decryptors and got the improved ME (-2) and improved PE (1), but not the extra run.
My question is if this is a bug and if so do I need to file in a bug report?
I use decryptors for a reason; the improved ME, the higher chances of succes but also the extra runs. And now I don't get those.
In the description it doesn't say that the extra runmodifier is chance based as well.
Are decryptors chance based too, and I mean the stats from them, or is this a bug and should I have gotten 2-run prints for the succesfull jobs no matter what?

Edited by: Qoi on 20/08/2010 22:22:51 It's working as intented, until you are using full run copies (takes ten times as much time for copying), you will not see any additional run with the +1 decryptor
maybe you should have searched for this ...
it's explained here
And the critical bit is
Invention Output Runs = MIN(MAX(ROUND_DOWN( (Input_T1_BPC_Runs / T1_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy) * (T2_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy / 10) + Decryptor_Runs_Bonus), 1), T2_Max_Runs_Per_Blueprint_Copy)
Edit: Yes, you need to understand basic math/calculus for invention. At least that's my opinion

If you do not use full run copies with decryptors with a Max Run Modifier, you will not get the base run, only the runs from the decryptor.
As per the equation above, any partial runs get rounded down to 0 before the decryptor modifier is added.

So what you are saying is that when I was inventing Devoters there was a bug present that gave me extra runs? Because I have used decryptors before and they did give me the extra runs. I never use full-run copies on ships and I have had the extra runs before.

If you use the +2 run decryptor on a 1 run BPC you will get 2 runs. If you use a 2 decryptor on a max run BPC you will get 3 runs.
If the decryptor you used only gives +1 run, using anything less than a max run BPC will only give you 1 run.
The same is true for rigs as well as ships.

Let's say that a Falcon BPO has a 10 max run limit on copies (not sure if it really does, but it will work for this discussion). That means the max runs you can get on an invention job is 1. It doesn't matter if you used a 1 run copy of your Blackbird blueprint or a max run, because the fraction got dropped and the minimum possible is one run. Now, if you use a +1 run decryptor, the invention job will first calculate how many runs you get from the blueprint. If use used less than a max-run copy, the result will be a fraction, which will be rounded down to zero. Then the +1 from the decryptor will be applied, giving you 1 run. Only then does it compare the final value with the minimum allowed.
This is universally true in invention. If you use less than a max run copy blueprint for your invention, you will lose at least 1 run from the T2 blueprint result. For ships, since you can't get less than 1 run, it doesn't matter, unless you're using a decryptor that gives bonus runs. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Edited by: Thalysia on 20/08/2010 23:01:28 Ah....and now I see why. I used Sacred Manifesto on the Devoter and one of the Recons. I never noticed at that time I didn't get 3-runs but was very happy with the 2 runs.
I guess I should have used User Manual to get the extra runs, which would automatically imply lower chances of succes as there isn't a modifier on it for succes.
So for the other ones I need to get 15 run prints. *starts copying again and runs to get User Manuals*
Thanks for the info.
And I'm glad I only did this once so I wouldn't be emptying my wallet on decryptors for nothing.
