DEA seeks Ebonics experts to help with cases
Quote:
ATLANTA (AP) - Federal agents are seeking to hire Ebonics translators to help interpret wiretapped conversations involving targets of undercover drug investigations.
The Drug Enforcement Agency recently sent memos asking companies that provide translation services to help it find nine translators in the Southeast who are fluent in Ebonics, Special Agent Michael Sanders said Monday.

One of the times I was in Atlanta, a local asked me for a cigarette....I had no clue what he was saying. Someone had to translate for me, because I asked him to pantomime and he didn't know what I was talking about.

LMAO!!!
Seriously though, I doubt what they are trying to decipher is Ebonics. I bet it is part of the ever evolving culture of "under speak", a code language that evolves as the authorities become familiar with the terms; therefore, I will rest easy knowing that the DEA's search is futile

I lived in Rogers Park on the northside, Jackson and Halstead, and right on the border of Cabrini Green on Division in the 90s, it was pretty much just hordes of gang bangers and prostitutes/drug addicts filling the streets except in Greektown, but the ghetto was just a few blocks west of there.
