Alakgur, a high-sec system containing about 30 pilots atm, has been laggy for the past hour. 20 seconds to open a can, undock, etc. etc. This is not a fleet fight in null. This is not Jita. Why is this quiet backwater suddenly sucking?

Because Alakgur is probably sharing a location node with enough other star systems that the total population of your node is over lag's 'event horizon'.

Yeah, I've been noticing some lag in systems with virtually no people in it for the last couple weeks. An no, it's not my machine, my installation, or my service provider: three different machines, three different installations, multiple different toons, two different locations/service providers. Same lag effect.

That was so last week. This week complaining about how they redistributed the lag but nullsec is still broken is all the rage.
When you say "fanboi" try to picture a fat man doing burlesque with 2 big ass fans that say CCP on one and HTFU on the other. Because that dude is me. |

I expect so, but what I experienced today was absolutely new. I've been playing this game for long hours at all hours for over a year now, and the only time I've experienced anything like it is jumping in and out of Jita. When software exhibits new behaviors in an area related to recent work, odds are high that those changes are responsible.

What Brusanan says is correct. You're most likely sharing a node with a high-load system. ---

The people inside the system you're in doesn't matter, it matters what the total number of people on the node your system is on is.
That was an epic sentence.

Nah... we already got past the "under my bed" situation. The lag monster has been chewing our brains for the last couple of months already.

Read the **** blogs!
It was explained in detail how these things are working.
Solar systems are often mapped to the same node, sometimes dozen or hundreds of them to one node. All this is fine normally. But if in one solar system a big fight suddenly happens, then all other solar systems on the same node are also affected. |

What you experienced was not new, it was only new to YOU. You are making a fallacious generalisation from this, to be correct, arguing from a special case to a general rule. You are also making the error known as 'post hoc ergo propter hoc', in plain Englih a fallacy of false cause. (Just because one thing follows another in time, does not mean that there is a causal relationship between the two.)

Edited by: Terrigal on 29/08/2010 11:35:37 Firstly LAG is a CCP feature and it will be further embraced once incarna is incorporated. BTW i'm going to love and laugh all day when all you carebears die due to lag in lvl4 mission previously that you were easily able to solo. Thus in the future due to the LAG feature youll have to crew up and run missions with many pilots reducing your isk income etc. It's going to be hilarious to watch the forums go into overdrive.
BTW this is CCP's plan to make making isk extremely hard and only option is to purchase GTC's.

No, 0.0 systems are always mapped on location nodes only with other 0.0 systems.
There was, however, a fleet fight in a low-sec system at this time and its constellation was mapped onto a location node inter alia with Alakgur's constellation and Kamio.

Wait a second, did you actually just admit that there is lag in empire systems when in another random low-sec system there is a "fleet fight"(whatever player numbers involved that implies)? Lag... in low-sec... in my EVE... unbelievable. On the other hand, so is probably a "fleet fight" in low-sec?

Fleet fights in empire are uncommon. This one had more than 400 pilots.
There is more code that runs on empire location nodes than on 0.0 location nodes, most notably Crime Watch that keeps track of engagements and security statuses (in low and high sec) and triggers CONCORD responses (in high sec).

Which low sec was it? Any info about the combatants? Was it FW or Alliances beating each other up? Sorry for Q's but I don't read CAOD
