Dear CCP,
let coperations rent nillboard for adverts instead, and stop them, using cargo container, that would really would be great. I think EvE really needs an advertising system for external services and coperations. The coperations should only be able to use patterns to ensure consitency of quality.
Futhermore the boards should be clickable to open a precise link. The rent cost should vary on the trading routes and they should be placed nearer to the main structures so the pilots notice them while traveling.

I second this motion, maybe have an auction system to figure out who gets to rent it for the week/month. idk. definetly need more bilboards if this is gonna work.

after my first month or 2 of playing i stopped paying attention to cans and billboards, they were filed into the ignore center of my brain as irrelevent data
So for your suggestion to work, billboards would need to get WAY bigger to be noticed
That, or have an audio advert when on grid (make it so there is an option to turn this feature off as well for those of us who dont want to listen to 50 adverts when flying across the universe)

^^ he has a good point
I never look at can's that aren't mine and I never look at the billboards but maybe have it set up so when you jump a message comes up in the local chat as advertisement but it can only be rented by 1 corp at a time and for only 1 week. Also give the ability to make a list of people that want to do this and once the 1 week or w/e is done with that alliance the next one on the list will be.

This has been part of an on-goin discussion for the past 3 years. The main problem we are facing is how we can manage the content, if it's somehow created in the client, or if it's uploaded to the website (I presume EVE Gate now).
the problem with uploading images would be that someone might want to upload something "nice"... if you know what I mean ;)
Personally, i would want to see that in the hands of the community. "Report this advertisement" sort of thing, but there have been heated debates on this subject.
So something we would really like to see, but there are quite a few issues we need to tackle. But I love it, and will try to get it into some path!

If you have concerns regarding censoring, just take a cue from local chat. It's unfiltered, but through a petition system you can punish people retroactively. The same could apply to billboards. Not to mention cost of rent can and should be relative to the popularity of the system; a built in safe guard to keep trolls out of hub locals such as Jita or amarr. While people would pay 10billion isk to write "*****" on a billboard in jita, the majority of people won't waste the isk, meaning there are less instances for the GMs to have to banhammer.

Perhaps not concerns, but just what would be the best course of action. If it's something like the alliance logo submission thing (granted that goes into the client), then it's slow and not robust enough.
If the goal would be to have quick service, then community censorship, petition to GM and then warning/banhammer ;) I would like to see that.

You wouldn't need to upload any images, you could just use the existing corp logo with "now recuiting" text beneath it, or something to that effect.
You could provide the option to change the text for an ISK cost then put it through a similar (read: better) filter to the forum's.

I like the community censorship/banhammer idea personally. If that wouldn't work then corp logo, or a decent selection of default graphics would be fine I'd think.
I know you can view the news by clicking on the billboards, but maybe some sort of addvert browser function added as well would be cool. Maybe throw one outside each station as well so we can get rid of advertisement cans.
Make purchasing adds a reasonable fee, but also require a fee per location. One billboard X cost. All billboards in a system Y cost. All billboards in a constellation Z cost. Ect.

It just requires moderation. Anyone wanting an ad would have to submit it to you guys anyway (Which means you'd have to look at it) to put it in-game. So, you'd just use your best judgement as to what was, you know, okay.
As for how to implement it. You're planning on using live feeds for certain stuff in upcoming Incarna. You could just transpose this system to the billboards?
Introducing this system could also be your excuse for remodeling them. Perhaps have sizes of billboards for various situations that people have to pay for and pay for upkeep of. IE: If a 0.0 sov wanted a BIG billboard with 'THIS IS OUR SYSTEM, NBSI!' then they'd buy this item in-game for however many millions (or billions) of isk and then choose a location (same system as POS anchoring?) for it and then it'd just be a case of placing the Billboard in the desired location on the next DT.
But perhaps that last part is, you know, too peripheral. The main point is just using the same system you're using for feeds in Incarna to display ads (and live events?) on billboards in space.
