I know this been asked and answered before but there are conflicting answers. Can I used tractor beams on wrecks that aren't mine? Some articles recommend tractor beams and others say they cant be used on other peoples wrecks? Which is correct?

If the can is yellow, its not tractorable by you. If its white or blue, its fair game for looting and pulling.

Confirmed (for the OP).

Deconfirmed. Even a white can has to belong to you, a member of your corporation, or a member of your fleet to be tractored. That being said, I don't really recommend a tractor for ninja salvaging/looting as the only thing you will be able to tractor is your own jet can, in which case you're doing it wrong because a, the tractor only pulls 500m/s and won't keep up with a fast ship, and b, anything you would put in the can and not in your hold probably isn't worth stealing anyway.
Although, it is a good way to get aggro on a mission-runner. "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk." |

Sorry to disagree with some of the above, but if you're properly skilled, I DO recommend a tractor beam on just about anything other than a throwaway. I use one on both Vigils and Stabbers and yes, they do work when someone "blues the wrecks". Now, I realize that MANY mission runners simply do it because they're grinding LPs (the smart way to roll imo) and can't be bothered to loot and salvage. Some MRs mistakenly think that that this will shoo "the griefer" away. On 2 occasions within the past month, I've had MRs shoot me AFTER I started "tractoring" everything in sight. An overlooked advantage by most players is that once you're full, you can jettison a can and drag it around, filling it up. A lot of MRs take great exception to this as well.
So, yeah, one tractor beam is fine on a proper ninja boat.
