Edited by: Zivoril on 04/09/2010 17:45:01 Edited by: Zivoril on 04/09/2010 17:41:52 From WOW to the very first MMO ever made, I've played them all. The simple reason I didnt quit EVE was because a friend gave me 1 million isk the first week I started, which kept me training to buy a real ship. Otherwise I believe working from the start of EVE without help is a utterly boreing and unworthy task. Heres what gonna gte the better of most of you Veterean players YOU KNOW IM RIGHT!
CCPs idea of makeing a newbie pilto work to where, many of us fly tons of ships and mission pvp etc, is patheic!
CCP hasnt any idea of how many people start this game see what they have to do, talk to other players then realize, WTF YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! To earn and buy a cruiser??? F.. that! Thats what I said, unitl a buddy gave me 1 million, then I stayed.

Ever watch baby sea turtles when they hatch? They are completely helpless as they paddle their way through the sand to the ocean. Seagulls swooping down on them and picking them off for food. Then once they reach the ocean they have to contend with larger sea creatures (which is about ALL of them) trying to eat them as well.
That is what it's like to be a new player in EVE. Survival of the fittest and luckiest. That is why it is hard to get new players to stay.

The tutorial is extremely boring granted, but it really does prepare you for a myriad of things out in Eve. With how complex it is to do some things as a noob with no previous experience or help with said tasks, this really is one of the only MMO's where you really have to do the tutorial.
I haven't bothered with it lately since I can just give any of my alts all the stuff it gets from the tutorial at any time so I don't know if it really prepares anyone for PVP, but even then I'm sure they could just ask around or watch a video or two and see how people set up their overviews, how they fit ships, etc. --------- "The." -Oceano da Cruz |

Maybe you should try eve again after you had your 12th birthday. If you don't like striving and earning your way forward, eve is not a game for you.

when i started eve, i had a 28k sp, an impairor, and a peice of trit.
The tutorial was crap (but had that nice aura character :p ) and the tutorial missions werent useful, and I had no help.
The first thing i did? Join a corp. That corp helped me thousands of times more than any static tutorial could have. Oh, and i went lowsec mining in a tormentor my first weekend, scoring me over a mill isk :D

well all i can say is, i have seen eve from before the first expansion. try starting out 7 years ago. if i made it from starting on my own at that time, then how is it you people cry about it now. i do agree forcing learning skills on people did take a bit away from the game. the game is better and helping new players now then it ever has been.
keep up the good work ccp

Why didn't you stay in those games? Would've saved us a whine.

Well, I just had a very interesting conversation with a two day old player.
On his first day he did the tutorial and all the starter profession mission chains.
At the end of one he was told to report to the SSoE to do the epic mission arc. And at the end of another he was given a certificate to join the Minmatar Factional warfare corporation.
So, being a new player, he did both.
Of course the SSoE epic mission arc sends you to Caldari space. Not the best place for a member of the Minmatar militia, especially a two day old character, to be.
But instead of moaning on these forums, which you can't do when you are only two days old anyway, he was looking for ideas for what to to. I told him about the passive income from datacores and I think he is bothering Minmatar R&D agents and dodging Amarr gatecamps in low sec now.
But the new player team needs to look at this glitch.

No. I just asked people. I was well over a year into the game before I had anything that could be called "allies".

I made about 15 mil in the first two days doing the tutorial/profession missions and the epic ark. Never had the need to rely on anyone in order to progress through the game. It's not difficult at all. You're either trolling or you're way too pampered by wow in it's current state. The eve right now is more noob friendly than wow was at the beginning. Not to mention older mmos.

Dont forget the 1 trit and the damage control
As for the op does he not realise that a new player who starts the game, runs the tutorial and runs the proffession missions comes out of it with
6 frigs, the mods to fit those frigs, approx 20 skills, including those for mini-proffessions, 3 implants, an industrial, a destroyer blueprints for ammunition and yet more frigates scan probes + launcher 1.6 million isk + a standing boost to his faction an introduction to FW corp an introduction to epic arc agent.
In addition the tutorials teach him how to do things like scanning/hacking/salvaging/minng/missioning/anomolies.
Finally he gets double training speed modifier.
All for about 6 hours game time.

I agree with the OP, it also makes me feel bloated and gives me really bad gas.
It is just one of those things i guess, just like eating to much Turkey can make you really tired. Oh well, a little bit of gas-X will clear it right up.

lol.
I wish that your buddy had never given you that 1 million isk. Getting things for free is the first step on the path of not appreciating this game.
I started in 06, did the tutorial ( the old one and thought it was great) and I have never been in a corp of more than 10 active players. Building up from nothing and growing into a mover and shaker in eve is what CCP is selling and they are peerless at it.
My biggest concern is that CCP will take the wrong path and wow-ify this game to keep children that should not be here in the first place.
My advice to you; either start thinking/plotting/planning how you are going to take over or find a better past time. In either case there is no room for whining.
