Meh old news is old. On a brighter note my aging cuda and apex enabled nvidia 9800gtx+ will probably have an easier time rendering all the new shiney than even the newest fAilTI cards.

Oh I know what my male brutor character will be swinging around - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. Unless you're too afraid of 'pvp grief' to do anything relevant |

Edited by: TriadSte on 05/09/2010 11:17:50 Actually thought it was unimpressive. The cloths looked rigid especially towards the lower legs. The hair seemed to hover above the shoulders and not sit on the shoulders as real hair would.
The dress going over the steps also hovered going up and down the steps yet it did sit correctly on the flat surface of the steps.
With my moan said I think that :
The lighting used in incarna for which I cant find the link which really does look like real time lighting is simply stunning

So what about us poor students who can't buy the best gaming machine around. Will I still get to walk around or will it say "Graphic Card XYZ not supported anymore" in a dev blog in the future. That would make me a sad capsuleer. ________________________________________________

To be honest, I don't think the physics are that impressive. It most likely uses PhysX, which is HW accelerated on nVidia cards and able to run in software for ATi owners. If we're lucky, Eve won't require the latest drivers, also enabling support for PhysX add-in cards.
As others have mentioned, it is the lighting that is impressive. And that will most likely be DirectX based.

I don't like how CCP are making this look like it needs a Nvidia card to work in the slightest.
If ATI cards don't have similar effects then you're gonna **** off alot of users who payed good money for their high end ATI cards, we didn't pay $$$'s to run games on low/medium settings.
Especially 5970 users.

Since I got this game to fly spaceships and whatnot, I don't care if my 5 year old machine won't be able to run station walking. I just won't go walking in stations. I enjoy the game without it.

Its CCP's fault that companies make video cards that don't do their job somehow? And you have the balls to call it fanboism?
I quit ATI when ATI quit working with every game. Not because I wanted to be an Nvidia "fanboi".
Just make sure you manually connect you fan, boy.
Haha i made a funny. Nah the linux drivers don't have that bug and I cool every gpu separately from its stock cooling.
Anyway short story long its old but looks great. When you say "fanboi" try to picture a fat man doing burlesque with 2 big ass fans that say CCP on one and HTFU on the other. Because that dude is me. |

My ATI is old and it looks great. Only problems I've had with it in 4 years is 1 or 2 driver problems, but never found a game it wouldn't work with. All you really have is an opinion, which you shout as fact, and therefore are a fanboi.

You've obviously know nothing about ATI, for people read news sites, aka not you - ATI have made an alternative to physx called Bullet which runs on the CPU and runs well, we wouldn't have this problem in the first place if Nvidia didn't purposly restrict Physx's use to the outdated x87 instruction set.
Physx would run fine on CPU's if nvidia allowed it to, CCP could use bullet - which would allow the advanced physics to work on ATI and Nvidia cards, so get your facts straight.
It's amazing how you instantly assume I'm an ATI fanboy aswell, the Nvidia fanboys must be on the offensive today.

I've actually been very disappointed with my Nvidia GTX 285s. I never had any problems with my old Radeon X1950 pros other than they were getting outdated and started randomly crashing (I think the onboard fans were breaking down and the cards were overheating actually) after 3 years of intense use. However many games actually ran better with my old ATI cards than my new Nvidia cards. Starting to wish I had stuck with ATI.

This man knows. I work for a little MMO and we recently started complimentary Bullet into the game. Our lead programmer had a look at PhysX and decided not only would it be harder to implement and run on only one manufacturer in hardware mode, but also doesn't yield any better performance.
You can pay NVIDIA to help you, but again you can do the same with AMD/ATI. It's just the way in which NVIDIA aggressively pushes its product onto other companies. If you look at a few small (even some large) development companies, you'll can read about their woes with PhysX and NVIDIA being super aggressive at trying to put it into a game due it it locking out the competitors (not just ATI).
I think AMD/ATI's support of open-source solutions via DirectCompute and OpenCL are far more elegant and suiting of the current state of the software/hardware world.
And for what it's worth, someone managed to get PhysX running on the HD3000 series. Not only did it have very few bugs for a hack, but it actually ran faster than the competitor.
Software like PhysX is NOT good for the industry in any way, shape or form. ---

There was some discussion about APEX and the cloth sim tech in the comments section to my blog. PhysX will run on the CPU if you don't have an NVIDIA card. We have had excellent results using both GPU and CPU processing.
Also, this video shows the state of our tech back in March. Things have come on quite a bit since then.

Usually because its more pain then worth depending on the stage of development. Either that or its vaporware and they are hoping we all forget about it and move on.

Vaporware its not. And we have had lots of nice videos from Incarna before! Like 2-3 years ago! So I think its time to at least drop us another spoon! Just a tiny little spoonfull of Incarna
