Very good chronicle! I think I have to read it again tomorrow to get all the hints and sub-stories. At first I had a bad feeling about the name and expected a rather boring story that tries to connect too much with the usual capsuleer activities in Jita. But instead I read a wonderful chronicle that suddenly made Jita 4-4 a much more lively place.

Simply superb. Just an engrossing narrative, and as mentioned earlier, I'll be re-reading tomorrow for details, but today was good for the space candy.
More like this please :). On another note, I wonder what machanations we'll need to go through in incarna to 'slum it'. Might we only be welcome in capsuleer sections of the stations?

Hmmm, this chron implies that he is alive and... well? It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

One question (maybe not so clever... or is it heavily influenced with my view of the story?):
Did anyone in that room survived in the literal meaning of the word?

Awesome.
A good (part of ?) a story, atmospheric, nice background on station life and the empires, teasers on upcoming tech, and hints on the depths of the EVE world. All rolled into one.
I really really hope that is pointing to the theorised "Incarna stealth game", where you can step outside the ultra high security capsuleer station areas (using some sort of limited cloning technology, presumably needed for DUST as well) to engage in smuggling, assassination, theft, espionage and so forth.
Also, now I'm hungry. Amarr Victor. |

Liked it, but the subject change in the end was... jarring. I mean, it was good in and of itself (the conceptualizing of the whole inter-jump existence), but it was like "Jita Jita Jita Jita Drugs part II Psychophilosophical ****".

i think this one went RIGHT over my head. wtf does she mean happy birthday? did they then kill him? if so, why? if not, whats with the mega c3? and then part 2 he's talking about becoming pure data... is THAT what happened? he needed all the c3 to prep for the trnsition to being pure data?
my head hurts.

My thoughts exactly. "Happy birthday" could be a reference to a re-birth (in a clone). But on a second thought, it's not logical - unless you could be transfered to a clone without being in a capsule.

Very very nice chronicle. Lots of food (pun intended) for thought. A nice tie-in to Incarna and the shadier aspects of Eve (if that is possible).
And...its nice to know binary code lasts that long into the future Though I've always wondered, during the process of data transfer upon our deaths, is there a real transfer of our "being", or is the event a mere copy and paste of data?
If its the former, then we can safely say we're truly immortal, just like we know (or so we believe) we're the same person before and after we fall asleep and wake up. If the latter, then a mere clone of us was created when the old clone dies. Then our first "death" would have been our true death, and what walks out of the clone vats is only a doppleganger that has all the memories and mimics the behaviors of its predecessor, but is really a separate new entity.
As I read from one enlightened forum poster some time ago (forgot who), we're not immortal, just...repetitive.

When you get podkilled, both really. Your "being" is read through a brain scan and the data stored and transmitted as data into a new clone.

GREAT read. Enjoyed this one thoroughly.
Yeah, that caught my attention too. I didn't really see that coming. Notice the whole "politically correct" thing, though-- it's apparently uncontroversial.
Maybe the Achura eat them, too? ("Dining so fine it's a religious experience!")
I loved the piece. The bits about the main station areas as a free-fire zone for dealing with capsuleers came as a surprise-- apparently we can clone when out of capsule?
Is that going to be stuff we can do in Incarna, I wonder? Assassinations?
Really?
Very cheery about the whole business. If even half of this crops up in game, Incarna is going to be even more fun than I expected.
And, of course, the philosophical bits were right up my alley. Very validating. Thanks, Dropbear.

Pure awesomeness by our (RPers, I mean) beloved overseer.
There are more answers to FAQs in this Chron than in one year of EVE Fiction and IGS "blue posts" combined. What we are, what we are not; what we'd love to be, what we brag to be, what in reality we discover to be the hard way.
A bit generous in the use of the word homophonic to sheet, however. Get rid of the forum censoring algorithm already (turn it into as a forum toggle)!
Oh, and hi to all the other IGS habituees replying in this thread! o7 --- Kat |

Oh, wow. I'm going to have to read that again a couple of times.
Originally by: Marlakh Though I've always wondered, during the process of data transfer upon our deaths, is there a real transfer of our "being", or is the event a mere copy and paste of data?
This really depends on what you consider to be your "being". Your entire mind's "state" is read in a flash, and then burned into a fresh piece of wetware. Somewhat alike to transferring a hard drive to an identical machine. Is that a transfer of being? That's for philosophers to decide.
But yes, the process is essentially a copy&paste job, and, according to Empyrean Age, clone jobs can be bodged by interrupting them, leaving a half-finished clone wondering who the hell he is. - Paknac Queltel
