I was in the Help chat last night (not evn the rookie help one) and posted a link to www.isktheguide.com because it is one of the most comprehensive and helpfull guides any new player will come allong.
An ISD quickly started telling me not to post advertisements in the chat. I said that it was not an advertisement but a link to a helpfull guide which is free for beginners.
Now perhaps this ISD is even newer to EVE than I am, for if he actually clicked the link he would have seen the guide itself and how it is free and completlly related with help for beginners in EVE.
I was also told to not post anything not directly related to questions, first of all I was not spamming the link, and the majority of questions beginners ask will be covered in that guide, in my opinion it should be linked there every 10 minuites because of how well written it is, you people at CPP should practically endorse this guy for what he has done but thats becides the point.
I have been gagged from chat for a day, and sure I can deal with that, but I feel this was very unfair treatment towards myself, and it will just negativlly impact other players if you start gagging people for posting helpfull links to free things such as guides or eve mon / EFT. I mean FFS seriouslly? Are we no longer allowed to post links to those tools either?
I guess I will leave out the ISD's name for his own sake as I can see calling him out on this in public could be a bit humiliating, although I think he knows who he is, and I think there are quite a few people like me who think it would be ridiclous to start gagging people for posting helpful links like that, espically in a designated help chat.

isktheguide is the best guide there is...CCP should include it with the EVE download and link it ingame everywhere( and host it on the eve site)
that ISD has to go sit in the naugty corner and feel ashamed for gagging you :)

Help chat has strict rules and regulations. Unfortunately, they also apply to genuinely helpful people.
The guide is brilliant, but Help chat is enough of a cluster**** as it is already without people pushing links to 3rd party sites (malicious or benign). -----

I think you have a rather over inflated opinion of just how good that guide is for a new player, especially considering the questionable english. Lots of people have guides, on a million different subjects, many of which are better and more complete than yours on more targeted topics. If everyone was allowed to link them there would be no room for anything else.
Give your ego a rest and if you want to be helpful in chat in the future answer the specific questions, or pull someone aside and offer them the guide if you really think it would be helpful. I don't personally think you will get a better reaction from them than the ISD.

I don't think referring someone with a specific question to a 400+ page general guide is very helpful.

I post links in rookie help all the time. I've never been told not to.
Make sure to not just post a link, but to make it part of a reply. Don't just post a link by itself, or if it wasn't solicited.
ISD's aren't always sensible.
I once got told-off in rookie chat because I suggested that a person could get a better mining ship by re-packaging their noob ship to get a extra Civilian Miner I, and fitting them to a T1 mining frigate. The ISD told me not to lie, that wasn't a good mining ship. Well duh, it ain't no Hulk, but it is a heckuva lot a better than a noob ship with one laser when you are starting-out!

Another option is to put the link in your bio and just refer people to that.
ex.)
Quote:
helped> Help! I don't know how to sell things on the market! helper> The market can be quite complicated to a new player. Make sure you work through the tutorials and check out the extensive guide in my bio.
I don't think that will get you gagged.

Your answer made me smile.
Also what Estel said, very much!

Any URL posted with the word "ISK" in it could easily be assumed to be an ISK selling site. It was the first thought that crossed my mind when I read the OP.

I can see why it is banned though, everyone have their own idea of helpful links from isk guide to 4chan. Easier just to ban the lot and point people to evewiki links.

Agreed. When I first saw about this guide, I thought the name was an exceptionally badly chosen one one, as most people would interpret "isk guide" as being one of those how-to-get-isk-fast guides. You cant really blame the ISD guy for making the wrong connection and assuming the worst.
