I am now able to access level 2 agents, but my trusty Rifter does not seem able to be able to handle these.
I am a quite new to the game and I am overwhelmed by the options available to me now. It tried using a Destroyer but it is not nimble enough to evade the hostile gate camps and it was destroyed by a Loki.
The description of the Jaguar seems to suggest that it is a nimble ship, but is it fast enough to evade gate camps?
I suppose the obvious choice would be an interceptor, but can they handle level 2 missions?
The final ship I am considering is a Stabber, on the plus side it is insurable so I could afford to lose one occasionally. But I am not sure if I should be aiming for cruisers yet.
I hope I have not made a fool of myself asking these questions. I really don't want to make the same mistake as I did with the Destroyer and pick a ship that is not suitable.
If it helps I uploaded my skills to Eveboard http://eveboard.com/pilot/Guffimur_Rogidi.

1) You gunnery skills are low. 2) Your navigation skills are low. 3) Your engineering skills are low. 4) Your mechanic skills are low. 5) Run Level 2 missions in high sec. 6) Use cruiser for Level 2 missions.

There's no need to tell him his skills are low. He just said he's a new player.
You should definitely be running in hisec to start of with though. Rewards might not be as good but they still aren't bad, and due to the fact that, going into losec as a new player, you are likely to lose your ship, you probably wouldn't even see the profits. Stabber is fine for level 2.
Just keep training those core skills like the above guy said until you are a bit more ready to taken on bigger challenges.

Edited by: Kezzle on 09/09/2010 09:13:19 I found a Thrasher (usually Autocannon) was fine for most L2s. Pretty much went straight from L2s in a Thrasher to L3s in a 'Cane. This as a pretty unfocused first-time character. Oh yes, and this was all in HiSec, which is probably where you'll find things less impossible.

I joined the Minmatar Militia with the intention of living in low security space. I always play MMOs with my PvP flag turned on and I am not about to change that habit now.
So, with that in mind, is a Cruiser still the best choice?

Do missions in low traffic areas. A jag can do fine, if you have the money to buy and fit it. Be warned you can still die. The jag can evade most gatecamps, but there is still danger.

For the most part, yes.
I would actually say go run the Sister of Eve epic arc to build up some more isk and give you more time to improve your skills. The main concern is you don't have the skills to really run a cruiser very well.
Those missions are in high sec but since you are in the militia you should still run in to war targets running through all the systems that you do in the epic arc.

Yes, at least for the near future. An Assault frigate requires Mechanics, Electornics, and the Racial Frigate skill at 5. That's at least 20 days training time. Do you really want to wait around 20 days just for a ship that may not be worth it. A cruiser would take you much less time and be far cheaper per cruiser. At most you need cruiser to 3 and Medium Projectile turrets to 3.

I would take the time to train for assault ships, and prepare to accept the loss of them as I learn to use them properly.
Then again, I have alts earning money for me through data cores, T1 manufacture, PI and arbitrage. Other people might be willing to raise their ISK through PLEX sales, and never touch the other two character slots on their one and only account.
A Jaguar or Wolf seem to be far safer options than any cruiser when it comes to doing PVE in low sec. I have run entire L4 missions solo in a Harpy and Hawk, there is no reason a pack of assault ship pilots shouldn't be relatively safe in low sec.
I am not a PVP expert, my life has mainly involved hisec care bearing and null sec roaming gangs where someone else is telling me what to do. -- [Aussie players: join ANZAC channel] |
