Just sitting in space, nothing around, not in the path of anything just flying into the unknown and went to the bathroom. After a long crap later, i come back and found my stealth bomber just sitting there uncloaked. I checked it before i left, my cap is stable, nothing around.... is this a stealth patch from CCP to help the carebearing?

Npc rats spawned near you and decloaked you. This has been a 'feature' since at least 2006. Luckily you had enough tank and speed to get out of range and eventualy off the grid as I have lost a few afk cov ops to the rat bastages before.

Had it happen to me two-three times before, at safespots. Each of them there was NPC's warping in at my safe tho. And yes, I've seen them leave the safe afterwards.
Been a few years since I saw it the last time, thought that'd been fixed with the "npc's warping in to belts" (rather than sitting there on arrival).
There's a variety of other stuff that could happen. One is that someone actually has/drops a safe near your location and accidently decloak you, then warp off. It's more common then it seems. Another is that you accidently decloaked yourself, or the client tricked you to believe you were cloaked (while you were not) when you went AFK. Both happens at times.
..and damn you for talking about that dump, now I need one as well. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

I lost a SB a few weeks back with that overview glitch CCP swept under the floor. I was in a SS no more that 20AU to the closest object (EC- is a big system) inbetween gate to torrinos and gate to ewok, off at a tangent, went away came back to find me in JITA. Looked at logs to find i was podded by another SB. When i looked at their kills for that week, he had killed a number of SBs and cloaky indy ships, the response i got was - "logs dont show there was an error" - LOL CCP......
Anyways im over it but i hope this isnt a re-occurence of the overview blunder from the last patch.

If your safe is between two fixed points in space, and someone warps from one to the other and passes close to you, won't that uncloak you?

Not always true. Undock and select a destination that requires you warp thru the station, e.g. something behind it. Watch speed to see that you are in warp (should be as you are approaching the station) Try to cloak You get the 2K warning for an object that you are passing thru

And I've warped from place to place and suddenly saw someone pop up on my overview just for a second. No doubt someone that had BM'd a spot between the two points and was sitting there thinking they were safe. After that it was just a matter of trying to use directional scan to pinpoint him.
An no, it's not a secret stealth patch from CCP to help carebears, or they would have nerfed the ability to sit cloaked and AFK 23/7 (but still miraculously able to tell when someone comes in your area instantly) long ago.

Craping is known to de-cloak you. I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug. Petition it and see.

When I warp to a belt and I pass through the asteroid field during entry, my ship gets decloaked when I pass in less than 2000m from a asteroid, and I can cloak instantly afterwards when I land on the center of the belt away from everything. This leads me to believe that you CAN be decloaked in warp. Not sure if someone in warp can decloak you, it never happend to me, but seems possible to me.

This. Having a SS directly between two Celstial objects means you will appear on the overview for a split second when someone is warping from one of those celestials to the other. With practice and good timing, you can get the making of a close BM down pretty well. 1. Warp across the object, note the approximate time the blip appears, warp back to starter CE, warp again and make BM close to object. 2. Warp to BM, get BM dialog ready and warp back to CE. Make a new BM as soon as you enter warp. 3. Eventually you'll have two BMs fairly close to one another with the cloaked ship inbetween them. 4. Use your MWD and fly from one BM to the other. You'll uncloak the AFKer and can shoot him (unless it was all a TARP and he was waiting for you in a cloaked Recon).
Generally, don't make BM directly between CEs. Just not a good idea.

As Zeba mentioned above, might it be that the PL guys do think that enough time has passed since mentioned above "incident" (i.e. which corp are those magical killers from)?

Wait, how again did you manage to see the ship appear on the overview before you used your ship to decloak it? :-P - Success=Achievements/Expectations

Actually, if CCP were to add risk to afk cloakers that would be a nerf to carebears... The true carebears of Eve .
But as it stands you're still safe. Nothing can touch you for as long as you remain tucked in that safety comfy blanky of yours (your cloak).

Edited by: Antihrist Pripravnik on 09/09/2010 14:50:42 Invisible objects - happens all the time even without anything around. It happened more that a few times to me in a regular non-covert ship usually at some random spot 200 or 300km from a gate. I'm aligned to gate and running full speed and then I just hit something and bump from it.

I don't know about that, but I believe I've had the opposite happen; My cloak shut down mid-warp. I assumed I crossed paths with a can or another ship, but it could just be a weird bug.
However, I was actually at my keyboard playing the game at the time so I could re-cloak. I guess some people aren't aware of that particular fix to AFK cloaking issues.

I've had random decloaks before now. I've been sat at a safespot 250km from a station, not in line with anything, infact, there were no celestials further out than the one i was at. I sat there on the directional scanner for 5mins or so, before opening a firefox window and doing some forum whoring for a while (let it be noted i did not press F keys at any point while opening or browsing).
About 20 minutes later i start hearing gunfire, and see the lightning effect of a bubble through the title bar...
I minimize the browser to find myself dying horribly. I mail one of the guys on the killmail asking if someone got a lucky decloak, or if i decloaked myself or whatever, he replied "you just sat there decloaked for about 5 minutes".
I petitioned, and got the response "the logs show nothing wrong". When i questioned what the logs DID show - was i decloaked or did i do it myself? - I was told the logs are super secret and they aren't allowed to tell me what they show. Nice, i guess my previous petition regarding boosters, where i spent quite a while discussing logs with a GM was all a dream then.
Also had a random decloak at a hostile pos earlier in the day, fortunately i was just warping out anyway (and no, i didn't allign past a corpse or something similar).
Something is definitely up with cloaking
