The Hammerhead II rendering indicates the drone is 40m on the long axis. 40m is about 131ft. A full size school bus is about 40ft long. So a drone is longer than 3 school buses parked ended to end. That is one huge drone. But that's not the wackiness I'm referring to.
The stats pane shows the drone is only 10m3. Given that the Hammerhead is symmetric horizontally and vertically the only way the drone can be 10m3 is 40m * 0.5m * 0.5m. 0.5m is just over 1.5 ft. For the drone to fit these numbers it should look like a super long telephone pole but it doesn't. There's the wackiness.
Does a developer have a logical explaination for this?

It's more likely than you think.
LOL i wanna see CCP just roll this error off as game design like they have done with rockets, and hybrids, and Faction Warfare, and PI, and [drones on for hours]

Why does a Giant Secure container only take up 3000 m3 of space but can hold 3900 m3?

àwell, anything, really. It is rumoured to measure the bounding/collision sphere of the item it displays, but it has little to no connection to the physical dimension of the model. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Why do exotic dancers take up only 1m3 but slaves (for instance) take up 2m3.. is it because they aren't as agile and can't bend into a 1m3 box? __________________________________________________

Serious Answer: The 40m axis is probably referring to it's weight, inertia, or something to that effect. Basically it moves like a schoolbus if a schoolbuse could go at 1000m/sec.
MY Answer: Because drones are like sponges and GROW when exposed to all that space radiation. To go back into their drone bay they must have all this radiation sucked out of them. _______________________

I thought drones were supposed to fold up to fit in the bays (sort of like the wings on a carrier aircraft fold up). --- This doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

This. Drones are actually hollow so they fold up really small. When you launch them they get filled with helium, it's what lets them float in space.

Even if the wings and guns were chopped off the fuselage would still occupy more space than 10m3. |

Because it was designed by Dr Who, silly.

i forgot that you cant float in space without helium
