Edited by: Zyck on 11/09/2010 18:21:01 I decided a while back I'll probably not buy another game published by them again, but I wanted to post this.
After the MP fiasco with the PC version of modern warfare 2 having no dedicated servers and being matched play only like consoles, they said the new one is going to allow dedicated servers again. Then I read this.
Linkage
The highlight:
Quote: According to GameServers' pre-order page, ranked servers will cost $14.95 a month for an 18 max player limit. Discounts are offered for monthly prepays. Unranked servers will cost $0.99 a month per player up to maximum of 24. Teamspeak support will have an additional fee. Discounts will be offered for a 3, 6, and 12 month prepay.

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 11/09/2010 18:47:56 They're not telling fans to go **** themselves at all in this case, it's just another way to milk people who buy the game for more money. Similar to what i was saying about DLC in the other thread. They obviously have an arrangement with gameservers which will pad both their pockets with more funds from fans. This could have been the plan all along, and they're hoping people will now jump at this chance.
If people continue to let themselves be milked they'll continue to do it.

What's a CoD fan? And why do you care about them being milked? It's not even 'milking' since the dumbassery that is the average CoD player will gladly pay 15 bucks for 3 maps.

I personally don't want every single player game i buy to involve a series of extra payments in order to fully experience the product, and at the rate we're going, it'll soon be common for every game to have as many expansion packs as the original sims.
The reason i care about these 'dumbasses' who pay 40-50 bucks for a game, and don't mind paying another 10 dollars 5 times for things which would have been included or added for free years ago, is because they're encouraging the trend. I might even be fine if they just started charging 100 bucks for video games instead of all this microtransaction BS.

This will never become the norm because stupidity is not the norm. You only get to exploit your playerbase in this way if it's made up almost entirely of high-school drop outs, or what we here in Holland call 'VMBO-ers'; the lowest form of education.

Are you talking about PC gamers or console wannabe's?
Are you talking about Noord Holland (North Holland) or Zuid Holland (South Holland) because VMBO doesn't just exist in two provinces, they're throughout the entire country of the Netherlands.

Gamerz r dum and will still flock to this new game regardless. So don't blame the major publishers with fleecing the sheep. I mean if you guys caught an orca in low sec chock full of morphite would you let him go?
Yeah thought so..

As long as those people protesting only whine and curse but still buy the game (Linkage), Activision will milk them more.

This. The more people protest and then fold like cheap suit, the less likely it becomes that anyone will take them seriously. If the protesting doesn't manifest in significant sales losses, it doesn't matter in the least.

this make sense, why should other gaming hosting company's make money whit their work? do the gaming hosting company help on the game development ? no so they should not be allowed to get the server side software for free, like it or not this make allot of sense and is a logic move

As long as the prices are reasonable (they look okay to me) and I get a 30 ping I don't care which company is monopolizing the dedicated servers.
However the possibly of prices going up and performance being sub standard is real - You can't exactly use a competitor if you aren't happy.

^This.
If we don't stop them ripping people off with games we don't play, eventually they will do it with games we do.

Actually, DICE did this first, just not exclusively with Gameservers, with BC2.

I don't really care about getting financially screwed over gaming because I get screwed for everything else, CCP make me pay ú40 per month for thier broken ass game and I get screwed by having cable TV I also get screwed for having a shiny smart phone contract and screwed for car insurance, home contents insurance, get screwed by my bank with all their hidden charges and even got screwed by the tax man because he cant add up properly and told me to pay it back soon or else, Microsoft screw me for the cost of an OS that can play games and screw me over X-Box live fees.
The list could go on and on but basically every company out there wants their hand in your wallet and games ain't gonna be no different and when you look at everything else a few extra úúú on games is nothing in the bigger picture.

I don't see the big deal, the service isn't that expensive, and it only effects those that wanna run dedicated servers. The advantage is for the people playing on those servers, they'll perform consistently and have guaranteed hacker/cheater protection. It sounds just fine to me.
