I got a few questions here, I fly a Vexor cruiser and I'm currently working on doing level II missions. I'm not entirely sure whats the best approach though for dealing damage to ships I meet in the missions. Currently I carry 10 Hobgoblin I and 5 Vespa I. I'll have times where my drones will kill a frigate in under 5 seconds and sometimes where they'll fire away for 3+ minutes before destroying it. I know for sure that the ship isn't a cruiser because of the show info tab. Another question is what are the drones I should be using? Currently I've been running with just 5 hobgoblins out and they usually take care of the frigates, granted I need to warp out sometimes or I'll lose a hobgoblin or two. My fitting for weapons is 3 tractor beams and 2 salvagers. I know this gives me next to zero options for drawing aggro but I also can't do much damage with any guns I'd put onto my vexor. Whats the best way to grab aggro and whats the best gun to use to do it? Thanks for reading the massive wall of text and any advice that could be provided is appreciated.

Some frigates will be moving faster than your drones. You'll need faster drones or slower targets to cope with that - you can slow targets down using a stasis webifier. Warriors are faster than hobgoblins, so you could try switching drone types too. Alternately try using a target painter so the drones have an easier time hitting the target. Train up to T2 drones (hobgoblin ii are good all-round, warrior ii for angel cartel specifically).
To draw aggro, you can use a target painter - this is another mid slot. Alternately swap one of the tractor beams for a civilian weapon - just get one from your rookie ship. You don't have to deal damage to the enemy to get their attention, just activate an offensive module at them.

Frigates, elite frigates, and destroyers all use the same size icon. You eventually learn to recognize them. Elite frigates are the ones likely taking more time.
Take a look at EVE-Survival Mission Reports for strategy and damage types and weaknesses.
You should not salvage in the same ship. Either use a different ship, or re-fit the combat one and come back to salvage. If you bookmark wrecks in every room, after you turn-in the mission, you can go back and use a MWD while salvaging.

In a Vexor, all or most of your DPS should be coming from drones. Just tank the thing. Though, it never hurts to have a few small guns to take care of "problem" ships that get to close.

Some rats are of the "T2" verity, so they'll be a bit harder to kill. You can usually tell they are "T2" because they have "special" names, special abilities (web or warp scram), and their bounties are significantly higher than the others in their class.
Though, if you find yourself lacking in the DPS department against a good number of rats I HIGHLY recommend you train up the skills "Drone Interfacing" and "Gallente Cruiser" to 4. You'll see a marked increase in drone DPS. Having T2 drones also really helps too.

It depends on what type of rats you are facing. My breakdown is thus: use Gallente drones (Hobgoblins, Hammerheads, Ogres, Gardes) on everyone except Angel ships. Generally speaking, most rats have Thermal damage set as their primary or secondary weakness. However, Angel ships are weak against Explosive damage, so use Minmitar drones (Warriors, Valkyries, Berserkers, Bouncers).

Any gun or missile will do. Just fire at the group you want to aggro. Do be aware that aggroing one group might make the other groups aggro you as well. _______________________

Vexor is perfect for L2Šs.
Fit some tank so that you donŠt have to warp out. Fit (rat specific) hardeners and a med armor repairer.
Fit at least one gun, so that your drones donŠt get aggroed. Anyway, as above poster said, a target painter will do the job as well.
Get Hobgoblins II asap. Usually (with good drone skills) they "one shoot" rat frigs. Warriors for Angels as Mara said. You donŠt need Hammerheads till you come to L3Šs.
Train up drone interfacing AT LEAST to 4, you will want it at 5, as it increases your drone damage for another 20 (!) percent.
Train up the supporting drone skills AT LEAST to 3.
Hope that helps.

Thank you, it did. Everyone here has helped actually. I'ma spend the next 5 days training up scout drone operation to 5 so I can use the hobgoblin IIs.

You also have to take into account that the different drones deal different damage. If your target is weak against the damage the drone deals, then it will be destroyed in 5 seconds. If it is buffed against the drone's damage then it will take longer to destroy it with just drones.
Train your drone skills to put the max number of drones in space, five (5). Unless you know the NPC's weak points, mix up the drones you launch. Launch 2 of one kind and one each of the other three kinds. This will hit your target withh all four kinds of damage.

This isn't terribly good advice. Each mission normally tells you what kind of drones you'll face. Load your drones before hand with the appropriate damage type. Hobbits/Hamsters for anything weak to thermal (Which is pretty much everything except angels and minmatar navy). Warriors/Valks against angels or minmatar. I agree with the suggestion of 5 Hob, 5 Hammer, and 5 Warrior though. The 5 warriors might save you time chasing fast stuff with hobs.

This will lower your average damage significantly. I'd say just carry Caldari and Gallente drones. With a Vexor, you can carry a full set of each, IIRC. The gallente drones deal more damage before resists, so even against things with decent resistance they're often perfectly sufficient. And anything that has thermal resistance so high that your hobs or hammers are ineffective likely has a hole or partial hole to kinetic, so you can just swap them out on the fly.
My main advice for OP is to replace a high slot with a gun to grab aggro. I'd also note that drone control links are your friend, make sure your control range is as long as your targeting range at least.

Actually you won't benefit for extra range on either one as drones cannot aggro/shoot beyond your drone range and you cannot set drones to attack with targeting first, having drones aggressive does nothing until you have ordered your drones to attack for the first time. They used to attack if you were shot but that seems to be broken AGAIN.
