Hello all
I see on occasion real emotion in replies on these forums, i am as much guilty for trolling as anyone else but there always has to be said that emotions and reason drive humans to do things for long periods of time based in pre-conceived ides of what our game world and what our world should be.
So,
why do you play EvE Online? What drives you to log on everyday? What is your force behind your impulses on this game? Why this game over so many MMO's?
For Me
1. Sandbox, perfect 2. The friends Ive made on here 3. To strive to understand as much as i can about eve online 4. Because i dislike simple games.
So i was curious as to the communitys *whys* etc. |

1. being able to do whatever i want in a game that doesnt punish me for being a jackass if i want to(so sandbox i guess?) 2. see 1. 3. whatever is most fun at the time 4. every other mmo (with the exception of WoW) failed to hold my attention for longer than a few months. |

There is so much to do here, I just can't get bored. It's a game unlike anything else I've found. Never really liked traditional WOW style MMOs, I was mostly playing things like Entropia, but EVE is something else entirely. |

1. I am a sucker for complex games, double plus good if they are terrible sci-fi games. 2. I don't, I have a life. 3. If I knew that I probably could turn a profit from it. 4. See #1. They say that in learning the game Go, it is best to lose your first 50 games as soon as possible. This is because Go is complex, and the only way you will start to get an idea of strategy and play is by first sucking and failing as hard as you can. So...In EVE, it is best to get your first 50 deaths by combat as soon as possible. |

why do you play EvE Online? -team play/effort to achieve something unique, scrubs tears harvesting
What drives you to log on everyday? - have fun playing, forum gaming (this is fantastic), scrubs tears harvesting
What is your force behind your impulses on this game? -it's a game not RL, so pixels come pixels go but some times you make friends and decisions might become less easier but overall it's just a game, tears harvesting from serious "space ships pilots" are just awesome.
Why this game over so many MMO's? - because actions have meanings and consequences always come around, sooner than later. Did I mentioned scrubs tear harvesting?

Just look at all the other games nowadays. Developers are racing towards their ultimate goal, which is a game playing itself, without that disgusting concept called "player input". Difficulty scales from "uber-easy" to "still almost uber-easy". EvE is one of the very few exceptions to this line of thinking. Right now, I'm trying to fail at as many internet-spaceship-professions as possible, and boy do I suceed. And I like that.

1. Pretty spaceships. Plenty of space to fly around. Other people flying around there, too. 2. I don't log on every day (aside from updating the skill queue). I play once or twice a month. 3. Flying around in space. 4. I never played any other MMO. I've been on Second Life for years, and I'm still there occasionally to create some pretty stuff I can sell to other players (and actually make a little real money with that). As far as player creativity, diversity, sandboxiness and my wallet are concerned Second Life mops the floor with Eve. You can't fly around in spaceships, though.

For me... tough question to answer.
Why I play... because it's free, and will be for a long, long time. What's my drive... well, my drive used to be, to see my enemies ended; ground to dust. This has happened. I'm out of enemies.
I suppose I still play to see what new ships and items will come out, where the plot (what little remains) will go, that sort of thing.
I suppose I still play... because I hope for something I'll really enjoy. Even though it's been years since I've been excited to board a new ship... the hope is still there. |

As for gameplay interests, trading is the only one that endures. Over the years in addition to trading I've had phases of ultra safe carebearing, 0.0 solo or 2-3 people roaming, high sec leet peeveepee (with mandatory links and logistics), pirating, ganking, exploration. I guess that speaks volumes for the open endedness of the game which makes it great. |

Because it is immersive and I enjoy it. The chance to hunt down and shoot some Amarr. The thrill of leaping on your prey and removing their ability to escape. Fighting them to the death. Actual loss. Actual movement of battle lines and boundaries. The ability for things to be destroyed immediately and permanently.

(not being sarcastic about those either).
Dust being integrated into Eve is nothing short of incredible. I always thought there should be an MMO where a space game was the flagship product, but the planets were the scenario for other MMO's. I.E. WoW on one planet, need for speed on another, etc etc.
Also, Wspace is safest space.

Eve is the only game that I have every played that draws me in on a serious level. I find myself taking the game seriously, I find myself considering my choices, my options. I find the challenge of human opponents to be exceptional and the risks exciting. There is a never ending progression in the game but it never feels like a grind, every moment I spend in the game is as exciting or as mellow as I want to make it. I can take big risks, or I can play it safe. I cant think of any other MMO ever made that has all those elements.

1. Most desirable mmo for observing systems in action (Social Dynamics/Economical Dynamics/Human Dynamics).
2.Having that feeling that someone is 0.01isking you while you are sleeping makes you wake up to 0.01isk people also people watching, chatroom watching.
3.http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/ <- haven't done some of the stuff yet.
4. It is entertaining to watch systems(Social Dynamics/Economical Dynamics/Human Dynamics) in action within the confines of a long running experiment where the bar of acceptable social behaviour is set much lower(Relative to other generic MMO). Also the much more lower cost of running experiments on systems.

This was a rather interesting reply i must say, consider your post liked :) |

I suppose I still play... because I hope for something I'll really enjoy. Even though it's been years since I've been excited to board a new ship... the hope is still there. I guess most of us ''old players'' feel the same way.Though i am noticing more and more are sick of the wait and move on to other games. At least from a personal perspective i've seen a lot of the old friends leave this year .
I do agree with both of you on some points however i feel eve is a game were *i am bored*
Then make something happen IMO |

And occasionally the hope of finding good Exploration sites. 3: I don't know. Fun, I guess? 4: I can't fly a spaceship in those lame WOW-ripoffs (WOW included. It's so lame it's a ripoff of itself).
And I'm not even kidding here. If I had 1 ISK each time a bad idea is posted on the EVE-O Forums, I'd make enough money to live off of PLEX and still be able to afford the stuff I actually need. |

Disagree with Point 4 as i have never stopped playing wow, i quite like the pvp dynamic.
But yes, good points however apart from number 4 :P |

But yes, good points however apart from number 4 :P That's a matter of personal taste, I guess. I'm not that much into fantasy-MMOs. I'm more of a sci-fi person. Are you a new player? Do you want to learn while hanging out in a highly social corp, where having fun is more important than anything else? And do you want to be part of a slowly growing community? If you can say yes to these three questions, the Crimson Cartel will train you. Convo me or send me a mail if you have any questions. |

Huge scifi fan, spaceships, trolling the forums with well thought out posts (yes I suck at this bit), exploding stuff and more spaceships. War hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside. |

Economy, Economy, Economy Full loot pvp - even though I am a carebear (sometimes pvp means having someone to run from)
If there were a fantasy game that even came close to the complexity of eve I would be there in a minute. But, until that happens I will continue to move electronic parts from station a to station b. |
