I really don't get it. Does he know that people who buy their games have opinions, and generally won't like stuff like this? --------- "The." -Oceano da Cruz |

i think they somehow assume that because the game is LIKE OMG SO FKING AWESOME (lol) and the story, and by extension, cutscenes are SOOOOOOOO GOOODDDD, they would serve as a movie.
I think thats the stupidest thing ive heard today. (todays only started, mind) Video game stories are generally not very great, because, well, its a game, your supposed to be playing the story. if the part where *stuff happened* is missing because you were supposed to be doing that, it doesnt work very well.

I think you are right. He is mad about it breaking box office records at those prices and it would need to be something better than just cutscenes glued together. Some people happily pay 60$ for a game that takes a few hours to play through, so I have no problem seeing Blizzard fans paying half that to get a regular movie of their favorite franchise and be happy about the deal. Regular people won't pay those prices for a geek film though.

Excuse me ? You're all barking mad. That man is a genius ! Of course, the cutscenes themselves alone won't be enough though. They'd need to also integrate a concentrated version of the actual gameplay (so that the already available cutscenes would make sense), with a visual quality similar to that of the cutscenes. And they'd need to ramp down the price.
But yeah, enough people would totally buy that. _

Edited by: Gistatis Tribunus on 19/09/2010 08:19:23 This on its own makes no sense either. People would just upload the cutscenes on YT (and if Activision blocks them they'll most likely be available elsewhere).
edit: I guess it's in vain though, with games like COD being how they are now, people would most likely buy them anyways regardless of how many ideas Kotick comes up with and puts in the franchises. --------- "The." -Oceano da Cruz |

All that tells me is, a lot of the public are idiots and pay for the fact. Sure he'll make money for the company, but the cancer has already started. It's just a case of how long till it becomes terminal.

I wouldn't be Leaving Eve for this I'm sure.
All Bobby Kotick is doing, is fueling the pirating side of gaming. Sad but true.
Many Kind regards and wishes for the future.

sure it's like what it happened with MW2. they screwed up the game so much for pc that the sales weren't actually that great, compared to consoles, and then he could come to public and say "OH HEY, SALES OF MW2 FOR PC WERE POOR COMPARED TO CONSOLE, BECAUSE OF PIRATES, NOT BECAUSE WE ****ED OVER THE ENTIRE MW2 PC COMMUNITY!"
....and now they want to release black ops (or whatev is the name) with an option of BUYING a dedicated server.
pfft. ---

They do, and have been for a while. Avatar was probably the most hyped up movie in the past 12 months, and even then it's still a giant turd (really, releasing it again in theaters after the dvd has come out?[I'm not sure about this, but I think it did, someone clarify please]) --------- "The." -Oceano da Cruz |

He doesn't care about the opinions that don't give him money.
He only cares about the masses of idiots that will pay for it.
