It is to my understanding that tech 2 equipment/ship is superior to their tech 1 counterparts.
However I came across armor plates while fitting my Amar ship and noticed something odd.
1600mm reinforced rolled tungsten plates I (tech 1 meta 4) has the exact same benefits as the 1600mm reinforced steel plates II (tech 2 meta 5) and yet the tech 2 one had greater drawbacks such as more power and processor usage and a greater mass.
Is this intended? The only example where a tech 2 equipment is WORSE than a tech 1?
There's a couple posts about this a few years back which lead to no real results regarding the issue. Please help!
(Also if anyone have information regarding the exact percentage of the drawback from armor plates such as speed and agility decrease it would be very helpful as well. Can't seem to spot a drop in the decrease of velocity and agility every time i fit/unfit the module.)
Thanks!

Actually the superiority of tech 2 over best name is just a guideline.
In most cases tech 2 does beat best name, but plates are NOT an instance of this. the tungsten plates are better then tech 2.
Other examples of best named beating tech 2 are stasis webifiers and micro warp drives.
In all cases though best name beats out tech 2 in terms of low fitting requirements. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Other instances include EWAR equipment. There was a thread about this a while ago...

Thanks for the response. Much more clear now =)
However, can anyone confirm the percentage or actual stats (agility/speed) drop in using armor plates? The numbers in game does not change upon fitting the module. Thanks again.

Armor plates increase your ship's mass, which lowers how agile it is ù so it takes longer to accelerate and decelerate, longer to turn, longer to align for warp, etc.
It doesn't affect your top speed or the agility stat directly, though (agility modifies mass or some such).

Last I looked, the t2 1600 plate was a lot cheaper than tungsten and so was preferred (when it fitted).

If you are using plates for some sort of PvE purpose, say buffered RR/Spider setups, it is ok to use the T2 variants if you want to save a little cash and could care less about the draw backs.
However if you PvP and put plates on a ship, ever little bit helps. The extra grid/cpu/mass the T2 can make all the difference in the world when it comes to fitting and flying. Most plated battleships fit 2-3 1600's and usually some form of armor rigs so anything you can do to reduce the penalties and free up grid/CPU for other mods is the best choice.

Agility reduces the inertial modifier, which is shown on the fitting screen.
Inertial modifier is a multiplier for mass used in the acceleration formula.

the upside to the t2 plates is that they are far cheaper to fit if you have the spare powergrid to handel them

on most mods m4>t2, I think the few exceptions are damage mods, EANMs, and guns/launchers.
