So EVE, why so hostile and angry? Yea you should play Orbiter instead. That's like the only game about space that doesn't have weapons. Or wait for Hello Kitty Online Space Vegetarian Adventure. Evil vegetarians hurt plants though. But they help with mitigating the effects of Global Warming because they don't need to buy lawnmowers due to redundancy. |

Made me lol. People in Eve are mean because the game has real consequences. So a lot more is at stake than a simple repair bill. Your going to let how other people act, effect your game play experience? Hmm Okay. Eve is pretty big universe.

It's because people in general are ignorant and hostile, just because they're playing EVE doesn't make a difference. As said before, most people are just idiots. In society in general, stupidity is rewarded and intelligence is punished. Best thing you can do is not add to it and make it worse. Here sanity, nice sanity.....*THWOOK* Got the bastard |

Conflict and loss. That is EVE, that is what drives most people. I find it invigorating, the constant clashing and head butting.
Everyone has their own tastes in EVE and coffee I guess. (I prefer tea, ohhhhhh shhhhhhhhhhhh-"
Also when I engage in actual combat I tend to taunt and rave until I get a fight and then say GF and joke with my victim or my recent murderer afterwards. Win or lose actual conflict is what keeps me playing EVE. As for the community, I dislike the whinging more than the constant negativity.
OP if I were you I'd look for a better group of people to hang out and talk with. Pirates are red, buddies are blue, if you're unlucky enough to be orange, I'll f*cking kill you.I wonder if all the pickles in the forums are tax exempt? |

There was no anonymity on the internet back then? You had to back up what you said? Not on the internet I've been logging in to since 1995. I agree that lack of repercussions is what fuels this behaviour (I know it does for me, heh), but blaming the younguns of eve for it is nonsensical. Have you noticed how many older people play this game? Many of them behave the same frigging way.
Quote:Dont take EvE forums too seriously, they are every bit as feral as wow forums, an probably worse. As here they actually believe they are hardmen.
This is good advice. But you should cut back on that internet psychologist thing you're apparently into. Guessing peoples real life attitudes, age, experience and success based on an online-game/online-game forum has never worked out well.

Usenet, recognizing a 14.4k connection from a 9.6k just by the screeching sounds your modem made, FidoNet, Compuserve, throwing AOL-CDs at random people on the street because there would be 20 new ones in your mailbox the very next day.... ahhh... the nineties.

With some tweaking the UI can filter a good bit of the negativity you may find in local chat.
You can play with the local window to only display small portraits. With only small portraits you drag the name of the character to the far left. With local text removed, you can create a compact memberlist which will remove portraits and permit a larger local list. Finally if necessary CSPA charges can be changed around in your evemail settings. |

There is nothing wrong with the Eve Community or the people that play it. Your perception is skewed by your attitude towards what people "type" in chat which is never really a good reflection of who people are. I tell people to F off in this game on a regular and Im always quick with a good insult. Its all in good fun and I'm not really pissed at anyone nore do I really care all that much.. Its just part of the interactivity of a competative game where we blow each other up.

Holy crap did that post just make me feel old... like really old.... a tree perhaps. I read the first post and automatically flashed back to prior to the internet. (which am pretty sure is what the poster was referring to)
Growing up where there was always an internet means there was always a place where you could be totally anonymous... prior to that you pretty much had graffiti as the only truly anonymous forum... even newspapers would not publish comments without a name and address included with the letter.

Hmmm... gotta agree, adults are just as susceptible to becoming asshats, though generally contributed to the excuse of old age. Kids today just want it handed to them, that's the prob, and even many games have cashed in on that factor. Thy are taught in today's skewls to not think for themselves, that it takes group approval to make any decisions (wonder why that all flock to WoW?) Now.... GET OFF MY GRAAAAASS!!! |
