Looking forward to participating, and then getting horribly squashed in my PVE ship when the local alliance hot drops a fleet into the system "for the easy kills". Ho hum.

Seriously, this looks really great and I'm excited... but we've been pretty let down in the past when we hear about the new features at this point in the dev cycle and then when we see the "finished" product.
Would you mind listing those things which are "must haves" and which things are "should" or "could" ? I want to know what to reasonably expect before I get my hopes up, as it seems that only the "must haves" ever make it into the feature.
Thanks, Dacil
I can't list them, but I can tell you that if our pace continues like this, we'll get deeper into the log than I have with any other team :) This thing is definately going in the right direction.

First, and maybe I missed it, but am I correct in my guess that this will require some sort of probing/scanning? Or will they turn up as beacons on the overview? Basically, how are we going to find the locations?
Second, the original 10/10 complexes, as stated in the dev blog, respawned after downtime, and were pretty much farmed immediantly. That meant for those of us who work and are not able to play around that time, we never got to partake in em except perhaps on the weekends. Thus, it was great when they were reworked to their current state. So the question is, is this new feature going back to that original state? Something for only those who can log in the moment the server comes back up?
There will be no need to scan anything in this feature. When the Sanshas invade, they're not subtle about it.
The feature itself will be dynamic and take a while to run through, so I wouldn't worry about timezones. Plus the respawning is not dependent on downtime.

Sounds nice that there will be pve group "dungeons" or events. I like more pve, when I don't want to blow up my ships in pvp. But it wouldn't be very nice if I didn't know where any events are or have to travel like 20 jumps for one. Also it would be great if there was some personal "progress bar" of how you have influenced things. For example zones could get colored in the star map as your personal / alliance influence grows in the area. The events could be also competition between factions. Amarr events would affect Amarr influence and so on.

Thanks for the reply! I'm glad to hear things are going well in development - and it sounds like you guys are really excited by this feature too, which is awesome!
About the list, I just meant which was "must" and which was "should" or "could" of the things you've already talked about in this blog. As much as I'd love to hear them, I wasn't trying to dig for more secrets about the upcoming expansion :)
Thanks again, and I hope you guys are able to do everything you want to do for this!

Edited by: Hirana Yoshida on 23/09/2010 19:47:18 For all spawns in low-sec and null-sec it will act exactly like the old 10/10, free ISK for the power-blocs. Only difference will be that it is slightly more unpredictable location wise. TIP: Stop all plex spawns in constellation/region for the duration of an Incursion
How do you prevent hundreds of people competing over the high-sec events? Will actions performed in the DED space (assuming you are DED'ing it) be free of Concord interference?
Presuming the NPCs in question are of the pirate vocation, will you be RP'ing it with news stories and maybe even permanent world changes in case players botch some?

Is there going to be some type of damage normalization so people won't have to fly out in PVE fit ships to actually do fighting and then get kekeke'd to death by the pirates and griefers in their pvp fit ships? Also, since this is across sec status, will there be cap ships in high sec?

ummm, why all the crying about sleeper AI and drones? I've been running combat, mag & radar sites in WH with a RR Domi nearly every day for 3 months and i haven't lost a drone to the sleepers in at least the last 2.5 of those months, and drones are my only damage-dealers. The sleepers rarely even target them... please don't parrot the same old story about scarey sleepers and how they eat t2 drones for snacks. It's not THAT bad. My drones have pulled more aggro in L4 missions than they have in sleeper sites. I lose more drones in GTFO mode than any other time.
This expansion is super-exciting IMHO, I'll have to make more trips out of the hole and play around with this in k-space once it hits.

Interesting addition.
Sleeper AIs will make it a lot more entertaining to run, however do I sense another attempt to kill off drones as a useful weapon?

To those of you worried about Sleeper AI killing off your drones, please look into other methods of handling the agro table. Current sleeper AI is quite simple. ECM > RR > Damage, every time, without fail. The only exception is when the system resets the aggro tables and a damage or RR system cycles at the right time for a higher value than an ECM system.

Sounds exciting.
Only sad part is that we cannot take side.
This is a HUGE opportunity missed in my opinion. A great chance wasted. Maybe you can think about it again. At least for low- and/or null-sec. |

Oh wow, so does this mean if you are in high sec, if you are caught when they invade, they may just tear through whatever is in their path until we stop them? That sounds like the action/consequence EVE that I can really get behind. It really gives people an incentive to defend their property.
I can see it now - Sanshas in 4 capitals show up outside Jita 4-4, destroying everything within the vicinity.

This is a great step forward for PvE, I'm all for changes that add flavour and character to the universe. This feature has great potential to expand as well.
Incursions could be used to tie into faction warfare, like NPC navy fleets that invade low sec borders. Pirate incursions (with drug/booster related drops and BPCs) could spice up lowsec (finally!) and add texture to the gameworld as well. The drone regions could have a drone mothership appear every once in a while, to enhance the character of the drone regions, ect.
Alternatively, I think that the idea of accomplishing small goals while working towards the common goal was what people really wanted with dominion. Hopefully incursions work their way into sov sometime down the line. Of course the mechanics should allow for a giant fleet battle for the finale .

nerfsauce = failsauce
does it sound familiar ? plex alone will not gurantee to exclude the isk for rl cash trader, and with every nerf that makes it harder to get iskies ingame you open the nearly shut door again for them. to ignore these relation is not wise, just as general warning, and the general tendence to raise the amount of time needed to finish those plexes with no isk rewards while killing npc's, maybe with t2 ammo, means that the few item rewards will have to earn the iskies for those players doing those plexes. means in addition more inflation, and we had just one inflation wave with planetary interaction, the next one must not really hit us or what do you say ? bringing in sleeper ai means also that player not only loose ships, they get podded by npc now too, another thing not mentioned in the dev blog, it means you risk all and its not sure that you get your reward, and it shows where the general tendence goes to. paying for the account, paying for gtc to convert them into plex to be able to buy ships and stuff needed to fly those plexes, flying them, loosing ships, getting podded and then you need to buy next gtc with real life cash again if you want to get quick isk again. the only who earns cash that way is ccp for the case if you are a pure pew pew pilot. it must ofc not be like this, but right now it smells like this for me. the only response i will read tbh is with ccp tag, the rest about flaming and trolling... i dont care, those ppl suck from default and are not worth my attention, tbh :P .

I like the idea, but I have some serious worries about it:
1. Gallente in general and drones in particular. If they were in trouble before they are going to be in deep excrement when this arrives. Does CCP have an answer to this?
2. Supercap spamming: There is a danger of big and rich alliances completely dominating all the low and nullsec spawns by dropping in dozens of supercaps. What is CCP's opinion on this?
3. What is the reward to risk ratio in this? In lo and nullsec this is very obviously going to be gank magnet territory and people stand to lose loads of very expensive ships doing these co-op quests. Are the rewards high enough that it will make it worth their while or will it eventually degenerate into a thing that only the very big and very rich can do while the rest of us go back to the usual trading/FW mission running/whs/industry in order to survive in eve?
I have a strong suspicion that this is going to be yet another CCP half thought out feature that leaves many at the wayside.
Comments CCP?

I hope that your designers and testers consider such things as:
1. Many players need solo content or small group content for PvE. 2. Small group PvE should be considered. Ie from 2-5. 3. Eve is like walking in treacle now for sorting stuff out. Having content that requires 50 people to drag Battleships, mods, looters, scanning ships 2-3 jumps for every 1 hour 'mission' will require at least that time in organisation. If you have to move that many jumps every time there is an event/mission then people will find it too challenging and most will give up. 4. Rewards should still be in isk, LP and items in addition to loot and salv. Adding a new type of LP system for rewards will be like the Wow pvp badge system. In Wow, the main currency (gold) is becoming more and more irrelevant as these rewards become the only things that can give access to the better gear. Luckily for Eve, there is no concept of "soulbound" items except for implants. 5. Might be nice to drop faction salv usable to make faction rigs??

I hope that the rewards in lowsec are going to be similar or even higher than the rewards in 0.0
It would also be great if some invasions would start in highsec and end up in lowsec, thus being a huge incentive for people to form a fleet and go get that big and juicy reward.
This is your chance to make lowsec more interesting, don't miss it by making highsec only 10-40% less profitable than lowsec. It should be 200% more rewarding to venture into lowsec...

So let me get this straight. An event such as this is going to encourage groups of bears.. I mean players, to come together and make some isk?
Can you say "That'll be 20m per pod, and you can keep your ratting golem for 250m? mmmk" ;)
Also, are there any plans to make Low Sec more appealing? I think low sec piracy was a really great element of the game, but has kind of lost it's position in EVE. Please make this better

You don't really expect them to consider such things outside of own testing with a core team as opposed to players from all over?

Haven't you heard, badge systems and soulbound content is hot, it's in all the keynotes. It makes people think it will attract people used to such systems, even wanting them, regardless of whether you really want those in the sandbox or if they stick around when not following up on things. But hey, the sandbox, like the economy is self correcting! No really, you will see, it is going to be awesome!

So, these incursions; will they occur only in k-space, or can we expect to see them in w-space as well? |
