Think before you speak. 1.1 wiped out some of my notes and CCP is offering no way to restore them, only telling me that it happens sometimes. Very uncool. Paying customer loses data, company effectively says 'tough ****'. Wouldn't you be ****ed off?
Whether or not they came up with a patch the next day is utterly irrelevant. There were some blatant bugs that should have been caught BEFORE 1.1 was released. As a professional software development manager I should know.
It's not cool to talk down to others that are experiencing legit problems caused by a buggy new version of a product we're paying for.

Originally by: Alisha Whorable Seriously people, if you have issues with paying for a game that when an update comes out a few bugs pop up, then stop paying to play and move back to WOW or something like that. Running tests on a test server somtimes does not produce bugs that will appear on a live server, due to several factors. I could understand if CCP did nothing to fix it, but look they are already workign on it. If you think you can code a better game without any bugs then please feel free to go ahead and do it. Untill then thank CCP for the fun game your playing, and be patient. Just my 2 cents, and I don't really care if you feel like bashing me for this post either.
Um, yeah, ok, professional game developer here in my past career for almost 9 years for big publishers everyone in here has heard of. And you know what? There's a history of buggy patches released and shoddy craftsmanship in them. Remember not too terribly long ago when the entire game was down for a day or two? Or a previous patch that screwed things up? And now this patch that deletes some customer data and makes the game unplayable for some that are paying for it? I'd say the venom is quite warranted, thanks.
Defending shoddy workmanship won't make you any friends.

I'm with the complaining guy. I get tired of people putting out PC games and add ons for games and expecting the players to do their play testing for them. You don't get this on consoles. It 's rubbish and there is no excuse.
Other online games play test on test servers to iron out all of this stuff before they deploy.
I'm just randomly crashing all the time - so I can't do anything risky at all and will now give up.
Don't defend poor servicer. If you want that, go and play shareware games where there is no contract of service.

Sometimes I have to wonder if CCP even knows what it changed. The 1.1 patch shows they clearly had no grasp on everything that was impacted before they released it.

A couple of things that should also be addressed:
POS Hangars, while viewed in the "ICON" view-mode, can sometimes lock up and become completely inaccessible. Switch your view mode to "LIST" or "DETAILS", and you should be able to move these items. Since no workaround has been published, I'll do it.
Stuck modules? Module lag? Auto-overheat?
Come on, CCP.
We pay to play this game, and in doing so pay the wages of each and every CCP Employee. This patch is an atrocity, and you know it.

All the complaining just says ONE THING. They love to play EVE and when they can't for even a FEW days (regardless if you pay or not) means you are a complete EVE addict.
In some ways, CCP screwing up EVE entirely just to get you off the crack may actually be a GOOD thing for you.

There was a patch in the past that was suppose to do some fixes. Yet it ended up braking the client more. Some people had problems before they patched, others didn't. when it was patched the people who didn't have problems with their client, got problems with the patch.
I was one of them that complained about the patch when I installed it. at the Time I did not see any problems. I only ran into the bug once, yet it was easily avoidable. once I patched it, I had to reinstall eve. ---

Here's a question:
Does the corp diplo role apply to setting alliance standings as well?
For instance, can a diplo in the executor corp of an alliance set standings for the alliance as well as for the corp? Previously this could only be done by directors. This would allow junior diplomats to be able to set standings without having full wallet access or the ability to push butan, which is awesome (or terrible if you're an enemy spy/disgruntled employee). -- Killed me? Let me explain, please. Now I am not defending anyone, I simply understand the complexity of such a game and furthermore the complexity of the PC World. I agree with you: you don't get such a large array of issues on consoles. But did you ask yourself why? Because all consoles are identical. You test on ONE console and fix all the bugs? You are sure that ALL consoles behave in the same way. This is completely UNtrue for PCs. PCs are modular. Your hardware differs from my hardware; your SOFTWARE differs from my software. A lot. It doesn't matter if we run the same operating system; for each piece of hardware in my PC, there's a driver running; you have different hardware, you will have different drivers. Also, don't forget the impact installed software can have on your machine. Think DLL Hell (or Dependency Hell if you want to be more generic); There's a gazillion and one things that might go wrong because you have some poorly written driver/resident app that messes up with the video hardware overlay or keyboard hooking for this and that shortcut; and in such a light, designing and maintaining a complex app such as EVE Online Client is like a dance in a storm of bullets. Some people might get hit; some lightly (sound issues), some heavily (client crashes on start). Want to check whether your machine is to blame? Install a test OS on a separate HDD, test it thoroughly for stability (all drivers, all basic software), don't put anything else on it, save an image of that HDD as back-up, install the client, test for issues and whenever there's a patch, restore the image from back-up, install the new version, test it. THAT is some basic testing. CCP can't test everything for every hardware+software combination of every PC out there. I met this guy a few years ago, he was all in arms about some forgotten game which was crashing on his machine constantly, so he asked my help in checking out what the problem was. Turned out that half of the games he owned did crash/error out/exhibit issues of some sort, and of course he blamed the game makers for all the problems. However, he had no antivirus. I'll let you guess what happened when I checked his machine for malware/viruses. Of course SOME of the issues people encounter are indeed solely the game's fault. It'+s a COMPLEX game however, and I am always amazed by its sheer complexity. It's no easy feat to flawlessly patch such a monster. Imagine you have a giant castle made of playing cards, and want to add a tower to it. There's a high chance things are going to get nasty, even if you take all the precautions. And for the guy asking for a rollback, I will make a rather stupid analogy. Let's assume you make soup and put too much salt in it. There are angry customers waiting for the damn soup. You can't just throw it away and make another, they will bludgeon you to death. You can't "undo" the salt. It happens. So all you can do is try and fix it. It may not please all tastes, but that's a risk you are willing to take. And you patch it, then patch the patch and so on. A more EVE-like example is: Let's assume CCP introduces the Noctis and it exhibits a really ugly bug (hull is -1 and it blows upon undocking). Hours after it's launched, reports start pouring in. The obvious thing would be to rollback until issue is fixed. But how about all those people who traded BPOs of that ship, who contracted ships to others and so on? Do you, um, I don't know, erase all the contracts? Lose all the learned skillpoints? I wouldn't say you would. 61 characters left, gotta stop :) ...gis sdrawkcaB |

Edited by: WisdomPanda on 02/10/2010 00:51:24 If anyone thinks they can do better - apply for a job at CCP and step up or shut up.
EvE is a unique beast in the MMO scene from a dev stand point, the only thing that really comes close would be a large distributed database network (as opposed to single server clusters), however those networks aren't feature driven - people don't expect you to add bling to your DB's, they just expect it to work. Not so with an MMO. So I implore the use of common sense; Not all experiences you "IT Professionals" (no insult implied, it' just rather vague for most people) have can carry over, nor can you really have a clue as to the internal workings. We can all only take educated guesses.
In before "DID HE SAY COMMON SENSE?!";
Edit: The reason you don't get as many on consoles (They still have MANY bugs/patches on console games. FYI.) is simply because it is a single unified platform, where it IS possible to fully lab test something with a good degree off accuracy. When you set up a mirror image of TQ in your basement, let CCP know, 'mmmkay?

You also seem to be forgetting 1 thing, these bugs have nothing to do with a specific platform or setup, these bugs are there no matter what you are running, pc, mac or linux.
So for me, your argument about we should expect bugs on pc games is flawed.
I will agree how ever that it is easier to bug hunt on consoles, as a day 1 360 is basically the same as a new one.
Also as a troll, if you did set up a mirrow image of tq in your basement, contacting ccp is one of the last things i would do, i dont like being sued ;)

Considering that I play almost everyday for a few hours, and that I only pay 50 cents to play per day, I'm pretty happy with the game. I'm old enough to remember the 90s where some online games charged by the hour, and you had to pay your isp by the hour and sometimes you had to pay the phone company by the minute for the long distance call.
But since everyone else is whining, I'll join in.
1. My corp chat window disappears and I can't get it back without relogging. 2. Some mods won't activate,(tractor beams) while some won't deactivate (after burners) 3. I see double in overview, and everything in the last 2 systems I warped through stay in the overview. Given that I can't turn some things on or turn others off, the game for me is unplayable until the new patch is released. Good luck with that CCP.

Edited by: Demitrios on 02/10/2010 01:32:39 So because we put up with that in the 90's, we shouldnt expect anything better 10-20 years later?
Also i fail to see how complaining about broken patches, unwanted features and the lack of fixing what we have at the moment constitutes as whining?
If only i didnt whine to the company i bought my new car from when it broke down after 2 months (ecu died).

tbh zoltar, i assume the code monkeys at ccp are professionals, what is normally the case is upper and senior management who dont have a clue what is involved, so they say "we want walking in stations on Eve: Donkey Spunk. You have 6 months... GO!".
Or at least i hope its that.
