It was a good run... but we need something better.
UEFI code to replace BIOS
I thought it was interesting how BIOS was never intended to go for as long as it has. I for one [cautiously] welcome the change... not just for the "speed" reason but also because it should be easier to play around with new and external hardware. _______________________

even if they introduce the UEFI to replace the BIOS, many people will still call it BIOS ---

You do know that this has been around for about 10 years right?
Intel started using it in 2000 on their Itanium-based servers.
When Apple switched to Intel for their machines in 2006 they also used EFI.
UEFI is a "universal" version of EFI.
If you have an intel machine it's possible that you already have EFI or UEFI on there, it's not enableed by default and would need a reinstall of windows to enable it (kernel is different). ===================================== It smells of spoon! ===================================== |

Or, for us non-americans, you can pronounce it as "UEFI".

and where is the bios syllables in big mac or double whopper? don't be an ass, most Americans know that those stereotype are not true, though the small percent that think they are get on TV, sane people are less fun to watch. also, digging the "you fee".

Nah, Euphienator.
That's what I first thought of when I saw this. You know people say "play around in the BIOS" when talking overclocking and the like? Somehow it seems a bit wrong to say "play around in the UEFI". ____________________

Edited by: Xylopia on 04/10/2010 06:00:01 You people should be aware of the fact that an UEFI equipped computer could remotely be controlled, monitored, and, even restricted not for your purpose but for that of someone else. It could all happen even before you could see some M$ win7 logo as long as it's networked so don't get too excited.
Right now, if you see a recently manufactured mobo with AMI/Phoenix/Award BIOS on, chances are that 99% of them contains UEFI code, because BIOS should be written with them from intel. Those all blue configuration page from BIOS are just face job, and that's what an IBM engineer could write a BIOS port on Mac's Bootcamp within 24 hours or something.
Look for google, and hackintosh forum especially. Things are not that tasty as it looks.
