Edited by: ivar R''dhak on 06/10/2010 08:14:21 So returned to EVE after about 2 years break and just got me a shiny new Vargur. Minmatar 4 evar!
So now need to hit them lvl4s for funds. After some reading I decided on a standard overall T2 fit with 800 ACs.
What stumps me is the rigging. Almost everywhere I find damage rigging. I initially planned on two T1 CCC¦s. Anybody cares to explain why I¦m so out of line with everybody?
Also general fitting tips on standard lvl4 missions appreciated. Thnx in advance. _________________________________________________

2 years ago the 1st priority of mission runners was the tank they wanted a ship able to tank full rooms of rats and to do it indefinitely (overtanked cap stable fit) now they realized that dead rats cant shoot so if you kill the rats fast enough you dont need much tank, so now people focus more on gank than tank. exception to this is if you want to play more relaxed or with a crappy ISP then in that case you probably want more tank at the expense of isk/hr

I don't think you are completely out of line with CCC rigs. My CCC rigs are the only cap mods on my Vargur. They run the tank and AB long enough to keep me alive. --- This doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

I agree, CCC's on a varg aren't odd at all. What was the rest of the fit you were looking at?
Mine is fit like this:
[Vargur, Basic] Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II
Explosion Dampening Field II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Dread Guristas Medium Shield Booster Shield Boost Amplifier II Shield Boost Amplifier II
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Fusion L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Fusion L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Fusion L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Fusion L Salvager I Small Tractor Beam I Small Tractor Beam I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Sprinkle with a dose of better faction \ deadspace if you feel saucy.

Consider using an injector. With all that cargo space you can hold a crap-ton of 800s. Cap boosters are cheap cheap cheap, we're talking gist performance at the cost of items worth 2,900 isk.
[Vargur, Injected] Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II
Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 25 X-Large Shield Booster II Shield Boost Amplifier II Invulnerability Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Explosion Dampening Field II
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Barrage L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Barrage L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Barrage L 800mm Repeating Artillery II, Barrage L [empty high slot] [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Large Ancillary Current Router I Large Projectile Ambit Extension II
If you fit a tech 2 grid rig(no idea how much they cost) you can also fit an afterburner without having to take the injector off.

Mostly this, but I'd also add that it wasn't very long ago that people realized that an Aerator II offers a much larger DPS increase than more faction damage mods. And the Vargur is definitely a ship that warrants T2 rigging.
I've been using this for most of this year, and it's served me very well:
[Vargur, T2 Tank] Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
Tracking Computer II Medium Capacitor Booster II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Explosion Dampening Field II X-Large Shield Booster II
800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II 800mm Repeating Artillery II Small Tractor Beam I Salvager II Salvager II
Large Projectile Burst Aerator II [Spare rig for flavor.]
Swap the Tracking Computer for an Afterburner on the missions that need it. (It's about 50/50 for the ones I prefer to run.)
I used to run more of a pimpfit that had an AB as well as a TC, but really, I had better uses for all that isk than the comparatively small increase in isk/hour it gave, and the T2 fit is far less of a gank magnet in this age of alpha monsters.

Range rigs for Vargur.
I forget my exact rigging setup. But I think I've got at least one range rig and one CCC.
With 1 range rig, 2x tracking enhancers and max skills I get a falloff out to 100km with 800mm AC II.
This is why I don't need so much cap. I engage most targets at 60 or 70 km. I can run some level 4 missions without hitting the shield booster at all.

I use a fall off rig II and a cap rig, gives me 6 minutes cap if everything is running which I rarely do and the large shield booster is left on permamently unless cap is running low. I am currently over tanking my vargur with the large booster, 2 resist specific hardeners with one invulnerable (pushes the specific resists towards 80 and those missions with odd ball damage to cover the weaker resists) and a tracking computer along with a DCUII in the lows ( Don't want my baby to go boom to soon, it will get removed eventually) after swaping out the second TEII which only gave a few extra kilometers. Once gun skills are maxed after the drones, then I will start dropping tank for gank.

It's worth noting that you make more ISK/hr by either blitzing or looting what you can from the mission. If you're leaving and coming back, you're doing it wrong. The only good reason to use a Noctis is if you have an alt that simply cannot fly a combat ship.

Oh WOW. Almost thought this thread was dead! Appreciate all the fits very much, thank you guys!
I guess the double CCC Rigs with double TEs II & Gyros II it is then. I¦m still too unsure to leave dock without a DC II.
Though I¦m having problems fitting a named heavy cap booster without a PD II. Hopefully a medium cap booster will do too. _________________________________________________

Yeah, my thinking too. Especially when having only one account like me. Got the damn Maraud to simul loot/salvage/missionwh÷re. Don¦t like these news of the nerfed loot table and salvage yield one bit. _________________________________________________

I like to be cap stable since I often have to go shortly AFK while doing missions, so Cap Booster wouldn't work for me. Otherwise Cap Booster solution is better.

First of all, just quoting for truth. If you can fly a Marauder, the Noctis really doesn't have much to offer.

To be honest, I turn down almost all missions that aren't Angel/Serpentis/Mercs. Caldari and Gurista just don't come up that often in the part of space where I live. I have flown some of the Caldari missions before, though, and I swapped one of the Gyros for a LADAR Backup Array II, and the Tracking Computer for an ECCM - LADAR II, and that allowed me to comfortably keep locks long enough to kill the jammer ships.
I had to take spawns slower than I would against other rats to make sure I never had too many jammers on me at once...which made me really hate Caldari missions. How often do missions like that pop up for you?

Think so.
It's been a while since I used it, but I typically use barrage against Angels. I think I lock out to 93km and I can hit beyond that.
My setup: - 4x 800mm AC II (Barrage or rat specific) - 1x Salvager II - 2x Tractors
- 1x XL SB II - 2x SB Amp II - 2x Invulnerability II - 1x 100 MN AB
- 2x TE II - 2x Gyro II - 1x DC II
- 1x CCC Rig - 1x Large Projectile Ambit Extension I
- 5x Hobgoblin II - 5x Hammerhead II
This setup requires an implant for an extra two points of CPU.
I've used it pretty much everywhere. Stay at range. I can get through some missions without using the shield booster at all.

^ This
I personally run 2 T2 CCCs on my vargur and they are the only cap mods on my vargur as well. Then again I run a Gist C-type X-large booster, which consumes less cap than a T2/named/faction booster. __________________________________________________

Sorry for the delay, I had a business trip to Santa Barbara. Neat place. :)
Anyway, I'd estimate that about 45% of my missions are against Amarr, 45% against Caldari, and 10% vs Mercs/DED.
