From what I gathered you cant fly anything bigger than a fighter. Ill stick with my huge ships.
However...I will definatley try it out.

I should point out that BP isn't exactly an "mmo"... IIRC it's limited to 20 people per instance, being multiplayer like Diablo rather than an actual MMO. There's no persistent world.
Not really an alternative to EVE if you ask me.

You've got a very good point. They upgraded the textures and the engine a bit but the actual effects are still 10 years behind...

It's a 20 man PVE twitch game, it has no sandbox, and no PVP. Also when CCP gets around to T3 frigates, you can have customizable small ships too. There is still no Space MMO in development right now which is going to take on EVE Online in terms of vision, and sheer scale. Well, there is, but sure, it will never get released hehe :P

This looks rubbish.
Twee console graphics. Awful ui, makes EvE's look good. Crap looking background story.
How is this any different to Jump gate?

Really?
So its bascially WOW with spaceships. What garbage.
More suited as a successor to freelancer then an MMO.

Nail on the head tbh, the Freelancer community is very excited about Black prophecy. Many of the older FL plays also played Starlancer or Freespace 2 Multiplayer before/as well as FL and BP is going to be a a great up to date replacement for those dead or dieing communities.
Many migrated to EVE but missed direct ship control and many others where just unable to get into EVE so BP is going to suck many of those players in. That in itself is never going to be a competitor to EVE as at their height the number of players was only a few 10s of thousands at most nothing like EVEs 400k player base.

Originally by: Captain Futur3 - immersion feels way more intense when you see the ships flying and dodging asteroids in the asteroid field. Also the fields dont feel like just made for the game. In eve you always get a very small area with some clouds or asteroids inside and behind that, there is empty space. That looks boring.
Asteroid fields like that are no less ******ed than EVE's little asteroid clumps. In asteroid fields/belts, the asteroids should be so far apart that you can't see one whilst standing on another.
This asteroid-dodging meme that Star Wars popularized is cute and all, but it drives me crazy when people consider it realistic. Real asteroid fields would not be a danger to anything smaller than a planet.
Originally by: Captain Futur3 - explosions! Hell, just look at the last seconds of the video - THATS how a battleship has to explode.
Pretty, but EVE's explosions are much more accurate to what should happen in space, like it or not, and even they are highly embellished.
In reality, all you'd get is a flash barely any larger than the object itself. No billowing smoke, no mushrooming effect, no complicated fireworks, just flash-and-done.

Never understood this. Always surprises me to learn that some people played with these on.

How many have you seen up-close?
You don't need to get close to an asteroid field to know that the density (ie the number of asteroids per unit volume) is an awful lot lower than most people imagine.

I think a reason why Tabula Rasa didn't get many customers is because they had a high hardware requirement for graphics.
So in the global financial meltdown, Eve might be prolonged because there is not much market yet for new hardware because people are strapped for cash. This actually brings up the prices of new high end hardware and keeps it up longer.
Better times come again, eventually, and a lot of dormant technology and ideas will come out, that were waiting for better times. Eve might then become a memory, unless the game is improved with the times.
I can run EVE on my 2006 Dell laptop that shouldn't even be able to play games.
EVE's graphics requirements are pretty low. -

Because there is no subscription for Black Prophecy. After you buy the game with the one-time account creation fee, it's free to play. Same payment style as Guild Wars.

Playable demo or gtfo before you make comparisons.
I gotta agree. The trailer was pulling me in and I was like "woooooowww" and then a little Malcanis appeared on my shoulder and said "hey, anyone can make a game look good in a trailer! Where's the f**king beta?".
I am in it. But due to the NDA i cant talk about it. well i shouldnt really be posting this. i would say its hard to play, bit like x3 space battles. i keep getting disorintated. but its got potential. now heres hoping i dont get the banhammer ------

When people watch this, they're pretty pumped up. Why? Because of the music. Listen to that stuff. It's awesome battle music. Chicks singing latin things over orchestral strikes and drum beats. Eve lacks music that gets you pumped up.
Eve's music is slow and elaborate, all of it. It sounds like a Quaalude addict sighing repeatedly into a glass horn. It is good music, don't get me wrong, but it's good music for falling asleep to. There are no fast tracks. Nothing awesome and bombastic, nothing that sounds like a Hans Zimmer movie score about barbarians hacking each others' skulls in twain.
Most people turn off the music pretty soon after subscribing, and it stays turned off. It is good for a few listens, but gets old quickly. Eve should have the kind of music I want to rip out of the executable, and stick into my Winamp playlist on repeat, forever.
When I open fire on something, I want the music to reflect the laser holocaust I'm unleashing. When my ship blows up, I want to hear a sad tune along with the wrenching of bulkheads and the dwindling screams of my crew as they burn or suffocate amidst my wreckage (another thing Eve lacks.)
We've had a graphics boost, let's have a sound boost soon.
Funnily enough the other week I made a petition on the assembly hall forums, and didnt even get a pity reply.
linky
IMO its time to put the "eve has sound?" meme to rest.

Your thread looks like a bad troll from the title and a glance at the actual OP seems to confirm it. It's TL;DR and the layout looks like a child wrote his train of thought on the post and called it a day. This is not the way to get people to support or discuss an issue. I support your initiative, but I'd propably ignore your post just because it doesn't clearly say what it is for and is just a confusing mess of you rambling about nonsense.
To get people to respond and discuss the issue, try making it a serious thread, be professional about it instead of just making another lol thread and make the presentation clear, to the point and easy to the eye. Don't just ramble on about things that pop in to your mind while you wrote the thing. They just distract people from the main issue and make them not want to read it. You might also want to propose something concrete instead of being so indecisive and unsure if you are even supposed to post something, so people actually have something to respond and react to. It also narrows down the subject, so the discussion doesn't go all over the place. Take a good and popular thread as an example and take notes from their OP. I'm sure you yourself can see a drastic difference in the posting styles.
