Hey guys I purchased EVE a few days ago and am enjoying myself a lot so far. I always loved crafting and trading in other games I have played so I decided to do the Business Career Path. I'm on mission 6 out of 10 with the Agent. I was wondering what happens once finish all 10 missions from the agent?
Also, I was wondering if it would be worth it to complete the other career paths, listed in the help section, such as military/advanced military, industry, and exploration?
Any other tips for a new player would be welcome as well. Thank you for reading!

I would recommend doing the other tutorials just to round off the "new game" experience (and get some more free stuffs).
Once you finish all of the agent missions you are free to do whatever the hell you want. Get some ISK and play the market by trading between different hubs. Train up your industry skills and mine materials (not recommended) and build and sell equipment (need a good amount of skills for this). You can train up your combat skills and run missions for ISK (boring, but the pay is decent). Train up your combat skills even more and go out and take OTHER people's stuff (very risky, pay and benefits aren't always good either but **** man, is it fun!)
Other Pro-Tips for newbies:
- *The Golden Rule*: DO NOT FLY WHAT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE. Why? Because when ships go "boom" they never come back... ever.
- Don't be a Jack-of-all-Trades... specialize, specialize, and specialize some more. Find something you are interested in and pursue it until you have mastered it (or decided that it just isn't for you).
- What is commonly considered "griefing" in other games is called "piracy" in EvE.
- FIND A CORP. This usually makes or breaks the EvE experience for most. And don't worry about your skills... they will ALWAYS be a corp with a place for you somewhere.

Also: read this http://www.eveonline.com/careerguide/ and this http://www.isktheguide.com/ . Whichever path gives you a little tingle up your spine, do that!

Yes - do all the missions for all the agents - and if you're inclined - mine those missions too.
A new player can come out of the Career Agent Funnel with a nice bit of money and a good little bit of Faction Standing after doing all those missions.
Another factor is that these missions are mostly relatively easy ... and it gives you a chance to practice handling your ship against easy opponents.
You also get some exposure as to what the various aspects of EVE are like.
Once you're done with those missions - and maybe the Epic Arc if you want - then you can settle down and start down your career path.
Trading is the one of the best ways to make money in EVE but you need to know what you're doing. It's not like you take your mission fit battleship into the Level IV mission, squash the rats and get lots of money. You need to think about what you're doing and understand the market.
Making things is a bit more complicated. It is better if you have some skills trained up and good standings with the base you use to make your operations more efficient. That take some time.
But in a way these are complimentary. Trading only takes a few skills, Accounting and Broker Relations will save you the most money - the rest effect your reach and how many orders you can have placed at once but in any case, pale in comparison to the skills required for mining, refining, researching and manufacturing.
So, you can get started by picking some base to run missions for - where you want to trade - then working the market, taking advantage of what opportunities you see and building your capital. Here - you've got to watch what you're doing with that capital. If you buy an expensive ship - that's money you could have used to make more money with - but - what is it that this ship is going to do for you? Non-Traders don't have to make that decision. As a Trader - your money isn't just something to buy things with - it's your tool.
Be thinking about location(s). Do you want to trade what you're trading at the trade hub - or is there to much competition there? Will you make more trading at a lower volume elsewhere? Where are the people who are going to want to buy what you're selling? What is it that people in a certain location want to buy?
Selling to someone elses buy order - is a quick way to turn your cash around. You won't make as much money as if you put up a sell order of your own - but - you can turn that money around instantly and go use it for something else. I started off noting a good price in a neighboring region to the trade hub. I bought as much of that stuff as I could - then sold it at the trade hub - which gave me more money - to go buy some more of that stuff. Each time I was able to buy a little bit more because of the profit I had turned and each time have a larger sum to show for it. I eventually bought out that source and had made a tidy little bit of capital. After that - I didn't have to do so much running back and forth.
I had two things I was doing at the same time. I would get a good chunk of something and put out a sell order for it at a good profit - but which would take some time to sell. I also had money that I was using to turn things around and make more capital with.
Your biggest task as a Trader is to learn the market. What will sell where. What is a good deal today - not yesterday - and what is a bad deal today ... as opposed to ... yesterday.
The game has some ability to export data into a form you can import into a spread sheet. I don't do that - but - people who are spread sheet whizzes ... have some advantage in making their calculations - and keeping them up to date.
The biggest mistake I made on the market was acting on some old data. I'd figured something out in the past and had the figures saved - but I didn't recheck them before pulling the trigger on something - prices had changed - and I lost some money because of that.

Edited by: Engdyn on 12/10/2010 02:52:03 I just finished the business career path tutorial, so I'll probably do the Industry one next. Then I can finish the military ones last. The suggestions and tips were much appreciated. Thank you.

Don't feel like you need to be locked into a career path, or even go with a career you can put a name to. The whole point of eve is to enjoy the journey and not get hung up on the destination. I've seen way too many people get hung up on sitting there waiting for the next milestone so that they can hurry up and wait for the one that comes after. - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac" |

^^ This.
Set reasonable goals for yourself like: "I will try to mine all the asteroids in this mission area" or "I will try to earn a minimum of 2 million ISK today." As your skills advance you can increase your goals. Rinse and repeat.
For me... my goals are to play a part in the destruction of AT LEAST 2 war target ships every night, run at least one lvl 4 FW mission, and (for the time being) to kill at least 2 battleship rats to bring up my pathetic sec status. _______________________
