I'm compiling a list of relavent corps to build standing with to cut my local taxes, so far i've got:
Caldari Navy (Jita) Federation Navy (Dodixie) Royal Family?? (Amarr) Brutor Tribe?? (Rens)
Am I correct on these and/or am I missing something?

Jita and rens I can confirm for you. You might want to also check out hek. In minmatar space I've often grabbed things from both Hek and Rens.

Considering the time it takes to gain standings you can probably just trade during the same time and make enough profit to cover taxes till CCP pulls the plug on servers. Taxes are just the cost of doing business, figure it in and move on, imho anyway. |

Considering my profit margin is fairly small and i'm running missions anyway to build a bit of starting capitol, I don't see why building these standings up would be a waste. A short term and achieveable goal with minimal skillpoints if nothing else.

Knowing that you could do acceptable benefits running missions and how helpful standings are when you come to trade some low margin items like isotopes or PLEX in Jita, I wouldn't say it's not worth it that fast. Though you won't probably need them to make decent profit, of course :)

Federal Intelligence Office. That is needed for trade in Cat. They have the 2nd highest Q L4 agent in highsec for Gallente. Even higher than the agents in Dodixie.
But then again, Cat isn't a trade hub so I'll continue to sell my goods to the 100+ people in local 23/7.

Make sure you stock paladins.

This is just for trading in hub stations. A number of corps have a decent national or global presence, for example, Servant Sisters of Eve, Quafe, Republic Security Services, and Chemal Tech. That gives you the option to place ranged orders in a variety of locations (or have refinery options) without having to generate standards for a local corp. OTOH, a small local corp in the right place is going to be a lot easier to raise standings in (for example, I picked up Zainou for this purpose) than a huge corp like the national navies.

I've considered the wide-spread corps aswell and found that through storyline agent locations I should gain a substantial amount of standing with several others along the way (quafe and expert distribution as well as imperail armaments, all of which seem to have stations wide-spread). Thanks for reminding, me Sisters of EVE should definitely go on my list too, Gicodel looks like a nice place to vend.

I've seen individual players offer fee services to improve your standings with a particular corp, but these have always been rather intensive and expensive for newer traders.
A while back I used to pay a friend to keep me in his fleet when he turned in missions for the Caldari Navy. I paid him 20 mil per percentage point of standings increase (I wasn't really sure what a competitive rate would be, but he was happy with that one). He eventually earned his Tengu, and I lowered my tax rate at Jita 4-4.
What I'd really like to see are carebear mission-runner corps who will offer services like this to lower-scale traders--a commitment-free, join-fleet-when-you-have-the-cash approach to standing grindings. I imagine it would be pretty profitable for both parties involved, but I haven't seen anyone put this sort of thing together yet.

Well, from the work i've done so far I don't see the grind being too terribly difficult (barring aformentioned Boundless Creations due to location). Most hubs (aside from jita) have agents in the lvl1-2 range in-station or in-system. I've been able to do casual trading while grinding low level missions and already have a fairly good start with the fed navy, sisters, and brutor. Once i'm in a bc it shouldn't be hard to bump them up to par with lvl 3 agents.

if you can grind the standings for these corps high enough, you'd be set up with a super-sweet corp standings-for-hire service. Once you're at L4 agents with them all I'd spend a decent chunk of change to have you join my trade alts corp for 7 days to raise my traders' standings with those hub station corps. Everything helps to cut down on the broker and refining fees.
