Edited by: Mynxee on 19/10/2010 15:35:17 \o/ Thank you for this blog, Zulu!
One thing I remember most clearly from the June Summit was being told that a certain portion of the UI code related to the overview was discovered to be the cause of unreasonable lag; that code was rewritten in a different approach and solved the problem. Fingers crossed that there will be similar benefits from the efforts described in your blog--not to mention other good stuff.

Thank you VERY much for the feedback, CCP. It's precisely stuff like this which makes me appreciate the unusually close relationship you've got with your players.
I can't wait to see the new features you can build from this. =D

I have slighlty mixed feelings about this.
First, it is great to see you moving towards UI improvements, I'm sure everyone can see the need for this.
Second, it is really great to see you admitting that this was pretty painful HOWEVER:
Third, I think it is a real shame that despite what I assume is a pretty substantial QA team AND a test server to try these things on you still managed to release a patch with so many truly glaring problems. I accept that some problems cannot be foreseen but in this case some pretty big stuff managed to slip through.
Perhaps next time you should tell us before if you plan to do something like this again. Most people who play eve are pretty understanding and won't hate you too much if you're honest.

Having heard a bit of things here and there over a couple of Fanfests, I can only say that this (corification) was sorely needed and a long time coming.
This is great news for the longevity of EVE and CCP as a company. You guys should be proud of yourselves. =)

This.
Maybe next time gives us a heads up.
E.g Dear Players,
We are about to release a substantial upgrage to our UI. We have done extensive internal QA tests but believe that some bugs may pass to Tranquility. In the first 72 hours of the release we will have all hands on deck working overtime to deal with any bug reports that are filed and we will be constantly present in the forums. We apologise in advance for an difficulties you encounter but rest assured that the long term results will be a much much better gaming experience for us both.
Regards, CCP
As annoying as the bugs would be I'd be much happier having read something like this in advance and prob much more helpfull towards solving the problems.
Edit: Maybe run a competition for the top 100 bug reports filed, as in best written, most descriptive, most helpful etc. Give out a few ships here and there or SP to the top 100. Something to easy the pain.

I second this notion.
We want things to move forward, we just want to know whats going on before the mess hits our laps. Alot of people's anger and confusion would have squelched if this blog post had happened a couple weeks ago. We would have laughed at people who were still angry off the forums.
Anyway, once again I am proud to play a game that doesn't like to sit on its laurels.

This is all we wanted to know. You should of posted this ahead of time, so when things where happening people would understand why. but not saying anything and then things breaking its no wonder why people where upset and asking what was going on and why things where not working or broke.
FOR EXAMPLE: I am still having problems in my note pad. just freaky things happening, like i cant delete text and when i do it deletes entire lines or it self types strange words and freaks out.
Links get garbled up and words get linked when no linkage was done to that word.
just strange things in note pad.
If you would of told us ahead of time what was happening, I would of understood why i lost some things in my note pad. which of course im still annoyed about, because i lost it.
But I am glad you are improving the UI. it is really so 1990's and we need a more updated UI anyways.

Quote: While we're being transparent about this stuff, we should mention that there's another big change coming up in the next few weeks: moving our inventory service to 64-bit identifiers. We'll have a blog out about that soonTM.
Is the the same system that contains details of corp roles? They could do with more bits too, from what I've heard. People want more granularity (e.g. to let members cancel only corp R&D jobs that they've started themselves) but this is impossible without a major revamp. --- 34.4:1 mineral compression |

So how much breakage is left to fix, and do you have any ETA on it, or is it just low-priority stuff that will be doled out over upcoming patches? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

This is so true... If ccp would give out a few ships for the best bug reporters, you would have all your issues sorted in less than a day. Thta a really stron idea i think, think about it CCP.

A new edit control for EVE Mail is undergoing testing. We have fixed the performance issues and we hope that the backspace/delete in line issues have been fixed as well. This new control will also be used in info window notes, channel motd edit, character sheet bio, channel input and notepad.
