Eve voice from eve gate is nice but the really impressive part will be when you let us access corp chat from out of game

Nice features, but it would be better if EVE Voice was fixed inside the game before you make it accessible outside. It's very buggy. Sometimes I'm forced to relog or turn it off and on until it works. Also, push to talk is hit and miss. I used to fly in militia fleets a lot and the voice client made it a real chore... you never know if it's going to work and it took less time to ship up then making sure everyone was on comms.

I am ver much lookong forward to the forums and what impact they will have on eve-search. Or will these new forums only be corp/alliance ones? ... maybe I will have to wait for that other blog..

Would have preferred corp chat over eve voice any day. Also maybe the ability to have calendar alerts??
Otherwise, meh, not a hugely exciting update to a personally underused, over-hyped waste of time.

So,
is there going to be some overlay icon on a character in the window list showing that someone is connecting via web based vivox versus in game? Just thinking metagaming here.

I like the look of this. Just make sure that EVE Voice through EVE Gate is compatible with mobile platforms.
Also, does this mean than an actual stand alone application for EVE Voice is in the works? Because if you guys did that, that would be beyond awesome.

There is a standalone cross platform Vivox client actually, beta ran earlier this year, not sure why it has to be web based.
Quote: By default, profiles will be set to äpublic", but there will be a grace period after the expansion launches where all profiles will be private
Sure, grace period. Why not just do the right thing from the start. Set it to private, let people decide for themselves the right way.

New contact limit
After implementing the new contact system, one of the things we heard from players was that 300 contacts was not enough in many cases. This is a good example of how important your feedback is in helping us evolve EVE Gate. In this particular case we went back and reworked it so that now you can have as many as 1024 contacts.
You'll get half, and only half, a YaY! for this one.
But please make it 2048 instead... please please... Sugar on the top..
Good news is that I'll again be able to add The BIG Lottery winners to the address book of BIG Games.
The bad news is that TornSoul still has 1200+ in the address book(*), and as such pretty much can't use it at all anymore...
So once more.... up it to 2048 please...

Because the people in charge of this decision are f*****g incompetent and seem incapable of doing the right thing (it didn't happen the first time, and it looks like it's not happening now)!!
Tell me, CCP, I have set my account to Private in Spacebook. Am I to believe that after the patch, I will have to go back in and re-set it to private??

These additions look cool (I especially like the eve voice and contacts upgrades). Though, could you throw in a few other features?
-Corporate accounting: if you have the rights to view corp wallets via API, why not be able to read transaction logs on the site? -Industry Integration: Let me view my active industry jobs -Trade Integration: Let me view my active orders (even though I know I can't adjust them). At the very least let me see my "active orders" numbers.
I'd really like to be able to log into evegate when I don't have access to my own comps and check the same things I view with EVEmon and EVEHQ. Even if the site is much more limited than those apps. ~Locke

I dare say, why not upgrade for the full extravagance of 65,535 contacts?

It would be nice if the evegate team would engage with the CSM (like so many other devs have) on our internal forums--we have yet to hear from you since the Summit.

just looked at changes in eve gate all seem fine just need a clarification of one line about public profiles the line is "Public profiles are visible to people not logged in to EVE Gate. Your privacy settings are still enforced."
Was just wondering how can privacy settings be enforced if you public profiles can be seen by anyone?.

Is there any chance for some very useful things like
- custom portal options. Integrating our own or other people's RSS/XML feeds, rearranging that on page, as a point of presence and entry into information going round in EVE (like the tons of news sites for in game events but also blogosphere and more).
- a developer kit for integration with well established and existing community sites for in game organisations. Data exchange, authentication (needless to say will need a proper layer over account management), etc.
- Or even something simple, and useful, like the ability to use eve gate to share ship fittings through, or overview settings. Stuff that people would like to find a hub of exchange for.
- private profiles by default, without silly grace period, as is the common standard on portal sites and social networking sites.
- or hey, what of using eve gate as a good way to show and exchange, or even sell things subscribers make that deals with EVE. Think of it like an App store, mixed with a bit of a Showcase nd advertising function. Spreadsheets, blog hosting serivices, forum hosting services, and so forth.
- or, a silly idea, but why can't we advertise for recruiting or products and services, like on other sites and community forums, in exchange for say ISK, or maybe perhaps a Plex ...

Quote: EVE Voice integration
We've been partnering with Vivox, which brings us EVE Voice, to create a first iteration of accessing EVE Voice through EVE Gate. This allows you to both listen and speak to your friends on the go, without having to load up a full EVE Client. Just open EVE Gate, and you're all set!
Hummm....
So you can use Eve Gate to get out of game voice coms just in case of a client freeze or crash. Spiffy, then again Eve voice usually continues working after the Eve client crashes anyway so you have time to let everyone know your re-logging. Still, should be nice to see.
How about freeing up the Eve voice hot keys and letting the player chose any they wish? Also how about multiple channel hotkeys?

Probably because they use it as a metric to show how widely it is used and worth the investment in its limited and confusing form of social networking turned portal to eve without tying into more then an extremely limited selection (god forbid useful beyond mail and calendar which has zero integration support with third party sites and forums) of information sources and processes. But hey, the data shows this many profiles are public and in use! It's worth it!

- I care about text chat far more than voice chat, as many other players have also made clear for some time. We already have Ventrilo for out-of-game voice. Give us corp and alliance chat in EVE Gate as a first pass, please. And eventually we'd like access to all the channels I could normally join.
- Why are iterations on the EVE Gate interface so slow? Given agile development practices, we should be seeing lots of small, incremental updates, rather than huge pushes that take months to develop. This really concerns me, because EVE Gate development has not at all lived up to initial expectations.
- We need a mobile interface. We needz it. (And if you make it iPhone only, you'll have seriously missed the point.)
