My Eve just crashed. I got a popup at the bottom of my screen after it crashed saying "Exefile has been closed by Data Execution Prevention" or something of the likes.
I clicked on the popup and it revealed the following:
Originally by: "DEP" What is Data Execution Prevention?
Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs. These types of attacks can harm your programs and files.
DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you.

I was docked in a station chatting with a couple people, not really doing anything else.

Google DEP Exclusion list or w/e, and put eve on it.
It's more like DERP than DEP anyway. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 22/10/2010 17:44:29 Okay. I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't a security leak in one of these patches or something.
Edit: I just tried that. Got a pop-up saying this program cannot be run without DEP.

Strange. Might be worth CCP looking into after all. Pretty sure I've got eve on my DEP Exclu list. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

DERP is right. I would suggest filing a petition in the Technical queue so it can be investigated. Hopefully its just a temp issue on the DEP side.

I doubt it, as I said in my earlier post it used to happen regularly and that was a few months ago. ---- Logins required for this post: 756196 |

No this happens to me all the time on my lappy running Vista. No probs at all on my two boxes running Win7.
To stop this from happening on my lappy I have to:
End Skype Disable automatic windows updates
Edit just to make sure I'm understood: this has nothing to do with EvE on my laptop. It is something to do with running EvE when those two other progs are running.

Edited by: Ascendic on 23/10/2010 01:53:59 I use to get this randomly in Vista as well. Adding it to exlusions did not seem to help either. Since running win7 it has not happened.

Same here, browsing the market crashes my EVE quite quick. I mean, buying all the stuff for one BS caused me to crash 5 or so.
I did petition, and all of you who have petitioned in the past can already guess what "help" i did receive.
For those unfamiliar with tech support, its : wait a week and receive a copy-paste "clear your eve cache files" message. Petition closed.

Might cost me dearly in term of drones, convenience, or a whole net worth packed inside a hauler, the DEP help said should a program i trust (should i?) keep getting closed down for memory or other stuffs violation, i should contact its dev to make compatible version with DEP, i'm not sure it's entirely DEP's fault because when i turned off DEP, Eve keep crashing on it's own.
Seriously, while you are keep balancing stuffs, robbing Peter to pay Paul, ect, this matter is one sided, there should be no hesitation in fixing this problem while it is just a matter of time before crashing get me into deep trouble.
