In the past i used to check it regulary, becouse there were some intresting battle reports, stories about espionage and everything 0.0 is (used to be) famous about. There were intresting stories about some "smaller" alliances too, which you have never heard of otherwise.
Nowadays its full of roleplaying junk, a few highsec gank achivements, and what you can read in the news section on the main website anyways (like patch a patch release).
For example, yesterday i checked the ingame map statistics, and there was a half region sized red ball at the border of the drone regions, which indicated more than 900 ships destroyed. Where are you, reporters?

One side is russian, which means most reporters cannot get their side of the story.

A lot of news stories are submitted by the players. I would think that the lack of news is because nobody is telling ISD about it. I'll let ISD comment on that fact, but here check out this forum post about submitting news leads in the mean time.

I'm sure the incredibly unbiased and reliable reporters of COAD can give you the whole story. I like me

What are these interesting stories? I have been playing quite some years now but only seen very few relevant stuff regarding 0.0 wars. Sure it did sometimes happen that there was a 0.0 battle report, but barely ever. Let alone that they kept you up to date about what was happening in the big picture. If that ever was the case it must have been many years ago.
Although since ISD mainly got trolled that might be a reason not to do it at all.

Its because ISD has a worse track record than FOX News

Which is why evenews24 is useful. It is kinda like the fox news of eve, but that is the best we have. (And really it is pretty good, just a bit flashy and dont expect it to be always unbiased reports).

This site is pretty nice.
I don't need unbiased reports, or 100% specific and reliable descriptions of events, i just want to be entertained while knowing roughly what happened... it's a game afterall...
Still, it would be nice to "fix" eve news ( http://www.eveonline.com/mb/news.asp ), it is something there for the whole playerbase to see, it is a part of the game somewhat, and it can effect the playing habits of the players aswell. For example if a peaceful newbie keeps reading about huge battles in 0.0, and watching pictures about capitals and blobs and all (as it used to be for sure, becouse it affected me aswell), he/she will want to try it more likely.

why is ISD not writing articles? Simple...it requires effort. Much like the CSM members who take the free trip and then don't participate, ISD is full of people who just wanted special title with privileges but don't want to do any work.

ISD provides a great service to the community. They are however volunteers and their numbers aren't legion.
Maybe you should sign up! http://www.eveonline.com/isd.asp

I know a few people ( myself included ) that applied and got turned down by the ISD. If they are so hurting for support / news / help etc etc why is the process such a pain to go through and then get denied?
I also dont understand why ISD people are "trusted with sensitive information" according to them. I dont see any reason why ISD people need to be treated as CIA agents. Dont include them in the secert sauce meetings, just let them write on current news, have someone do a quick editor review for being appropriate etc. They are wrong all the time, they are weeks / months late with reporting.... ugh
In other words, the current ISD is a disaster. Do SOMETHING to fix it. ------- "The Lord loosed upon them his fierce anger All of his fury and rage. He dispatched against them a band of Avenging Angels" - The Scriptures, Book II, Apocalypse 10:1

Ok, I'll reply to the various things raised here - apologies for the reply spam. First, the OP:
IC is a group of volunteers and as such we rely on people giving their time in order to produce news. We've suffered from two things at the same time over the last few months; the summer lull (which affects everything EVE related) and the normal churn rate of EVE players. In the case of the latter, a number of our more senior reporters have left EVE completely due to RL commitments.
We have some new recruits that are coming out of their training at the moment who have a huge amount of time and energy to put into reporting and that's starting to show with the increase in output.
0.0 politics is an area of news that the team has shyed away from for a while now due to being burnt (in a number of cases through their own fault). The slowness of news has also been part of the same problem - reporters worrying too much about writing an article (which in some cases took weeks) rather than putting the effort into research, something that should be very quick but thorough. Our way of working has now changed to avoid these mistakes and once the new reporters are more settled and experienced, this is an area of news I want to return to.

We have one dual-language speaker in IC which has been very handy before but his availability is a little limited. We'd love to have more though!

The best address for this is http://www.eveonline.com/mb2/news.asp.

IC has a minimum commitment that we ask of volunteers to remain in the division and we actively remove people who don't meet this. In addition, we don't look for people with the traits that you've mentioned and our application process does well to weed these people out.

Personally I really enjoy reading the ISD articles when logging in
Seems to me some people just have a grudge on them because they tried applying and got turned down...

All of IC's applications are carefully reviewed before a decision is made. If you are unsure as to why you were rejected, you can contact us at recruitment @ eve-ic.net. I won't comment on your situation specifically unless you're sure you want me to discuss your application on the forums.
IC are necessarily in receipt of confidential information, mostly from players, but we're not in "secret sauce" meetings as you suggest. The issues with accuracy and speed I've detailed above - I certainly don't feel that they are down to the requirement for volunteers to be under an NDA.
