Hello. While mining in a 0.5 system, I had been attacked by NPC rats. I launched drones from my Retriever and began dispatching the rats. Another pilot, flying a Vagabond, warped into the belt . He began shooting the rats, too.
Once the rats were dispatched, I recalled my drones and flagged the wrecks as abandoned (blue). Moments later, the Vagabond pilot was flagged flashy red to me. Neither of us had targetted the other and I was using Giant Secured Containers while mining.
I had written him asking how he had been criminally flagged to me, but he has not responded. Thus, I'm asking the EVE community for answers. I'm not interested in flaming or being flamed, nor am I interested in pointing any fingers: I only want to continue learning.
1. Why was he flagged to me in the first place? What could he have done to be flagged without firing a shot or targetting my ship, drones and GSC?
2. Could he have targetted the drones as they were recalled?
3. Re: GSC: I neglected to enter any password for the GSC; therefore, are they as easily accessed as a jet can without a password set?
Thanks, Haansu

1. & 2. Targetting does not cause flagging. He might have agressed the GSC/drones in some way. 3. I think anchored GSC can be looted if no pass set, but not 100 % sure.

I wondered about his aggressing the drones or can, so I created an alt and immediately tested this idea. I was promptly CONCORDed. He wasn't. Unless CONCORD is lazier in 0.5 than 0.9, I concluded he wouldn't risk suiciding a Vagabond against anything but another pricey ship, rather than a GSC or T1 drone.

They are - but you are right. I wouldn't suicide a Vaga for ore in high sec. Or at all really. You can take from a GSC if it's not password protected IIRC maybe he did that?

I'm thinking so. I wrote him but he had not replied. I'll test this with my alt later as I'm wondering how many GSC-users aren't aware of the need for a password immediately.

Taking from a GSC does not flag you for some weird reason. I bet he took from one of your wrecks before you abandoned them, hoping for you to fire on him. There's this myth about your drones magically attacking someone if he targets you or whatever, this is not the case and is mostly just an excuse (admitting one made a mistake resulting in one's own loss is difficult for a lot of people).
Take it from someone who pulls stunts like that on almost a daily basis; if you see someone go red while you're mining or running missions, don't shoot him because that's what he wants. Even if he looks to be in a silly, underpowered ship STILL don't shoot him because 9 times out of 10 that's exactly what he's hoping for.

Yep! That's what I thought and that's why I recalled my drones

You don't have to retract your drones, they won't go for him unless you target him and actively send in the drones to attack. The "my drones attacked him automatically" is a myth.
It's probably a combination of people refusing to blame themselves and the actual game mechanic of idling drones attacking a target that attacks you. But, as he can't attack you yet that situation will never happen. Chicken and egg thing.
