You guys helped a bunch when i was looking for a mission ship. right now ive got a drake setup and am running lvl'3s until i get get the hang of missions and some isk for a ship. Now I have been salvaging my mission in a comorant right now. My question: Is it eve worth it right now to salvage. i can fly a noctis i just dont have one. I feel salvaging only becomes a viable source of income if you have a noctis and are running level 4's
Any help would be great.

It depends on what your ISK/hr currently is, but I'd suggest waiting until you're up to Level 4's before you make that decision. It's been ages since I salvaged a L3 mission, but I don't recall it being all that profitable. Maybe just a Salvager in your Drake's spare highslot to salvage any battleship rats you run into. |

I have not run into 1 battleship rat and usually the mission is 1 jump away so i gotta clear the mission jump back then jump back to the mission salvage and then get a new mission.

Thanks,
I do lvl3 and salvage with my noctis. for a few reasons.
1)your not running around collecting loot from all the wrecks in your missioning ship
2)your tractor beams pull the wrecks in you salvage the parts and then the loot is in a cargo container.
3)its extra isk, it depends on the mission too.
4) You can bookmark wrecks, do the whole mission turn it in and warp to mission spot.

yeah it actually save you time if you think about it. I'm sure the actual salvage is not as good, but every isk counts. and its a break between missions.

Sometimes I salvage L3s, depends how many wrecks there are.
L4 salvage can be worth 10mil or so, more if there are things like armour plates. |

Salvage depends on what you kill, on guristas you can simply forget about salvage. Loot is crappy, salvage even worse. Nowadays after loot nerf, its even worse, salvage prices are all time low and its almost a waste of time.
And if you wanna salvage your missions, optimize your time, wrecks stay in space for 2h, so just make missions and bookmark each first wreck in a room you do with a time stamp, like 0927, next room first wreck 0942, and so on. Finish mission, take next one and repeat, when you get close to 2 hours on your first wreck, finish mission and go salvage all bookmarks in one go. And yes, get a Noctis if you wanna do it right. |

That's what I do right now as well for lvl 3, salvage from the big guys in my Drake and ignore the mob until I'm ready for lvl 4.

I seem to recall someone doing some calculation and coming to the conclusion that blitzing missions is actually the best ISK/hr. Don-Št forget that you have to turn all your salvage into cash too, that is taking time as well....
Also, a Noctis is not that cheap either and pretty much mandatory for salvaging L4s. Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20. |

It depends. If clearing missions takes you tons of time, looting/salvaging is more profitable. The whole calculation is highly dependent on your LP conversion rate though.
Nerath Naaris wrote:Don-Št forget that you have to turn all your salvage into cash too, that is taking time as well....
It can be done from space. Usually during missions. But if you're spending extra time on it, yes, calculate that.
Nerath Naaris wrote:Also, a Noctis is not that cheap either and pretty much mandatory for salvaging L4s.
That's actually the least of your concerns. Looting/salvaging 10 good L4s should pay for the hull if not hull and fitting. |

I always Salvage, since L1s. In a L1 I could get 2kk in a good mission's loot. L2 brought me up to 6kk in a single mission. L3 up to 15kk, L4 20 to 60kk per good mission.
People generally never do it because they are lazy. It's always worth it and with Ore Industrial L5 you can tractor the loot 80km away, coming to you at 2000m/s mwd's speed.
I salvaged 130 wrecks in 15 minutes. I don't even have Salvaging L5...

There is no ******* way you're hitting those numbers with any consistency. 60mil to salvage a "good" L4 (in what, 15 minutes?) would make salvaging more profitable than pre-nerf incursions. |

Salvaging L1 missions is a complete waste of time, if you factor in the amount of time you spend doing it. L1 missioners tend to be either noobs or people grinding for sec status. Noobs aren't going to have their skills up high enough to make salvaging profitable, and others aren't going to want to waste the time since they're not doing it for the ISK anyhow.
L2's are pretty worthless as well -- salvaging is an "opportunity cost" equation, and in L1/L2 missions, you can make more ISK doing something else with your time (like running more missions). Yes, if you have high skills and carefully bookmark your wrecks to salvage later (and assuming they aren't ninja'd by someone else), you can eke out a profit. But until you get to L4 missions, it's really just not worth the time.

Yup.
Salvaging doesn't really make sense until L4 missions (some choice L3's as well). Even then, most missions are not worth salvaging.
As for T2 on a Noctis, there is SOME benefit, but it is minimal and will probably never be useful - i.e. increased tractor range. |

Again, probably never useful. There isn't a mission or 'plex off the top of my head where I've got wrecks spread out even 60 in all directions. Park in a central area, slurp it up. Easy peasy. |

Best salvage is from a BC or larger. If you doing L3s, don't waste your time with looting or salvaging; get to L4s pronto. Blitz, get corp-mates to help, and train social skills to 5. |

I use a Noctis to salvage L4s for Corporate Police Force. Some L4 are not worth it but many are. I salvage all the Extravaganzas. Enemies Abound part 5 of 5 has some nice salvage but the mission is a WTFBBQ if your not prepared for it. I find the best stuff is from Serpentis(Gallente ships) in the form of large turrets and armor plates like in When Worlds Collide. Those can net a few million alone. Then there are a couple of salvage items that can get from just under a mil to a mil and a half for the stack-EA 5 of 5 is really good salvage. If I dont see a lot of BS I don't bother.
One thing is I have about 5 L4 security agents lined up across several near by systems. So, instead of just taking what they give me I check with the first and if it is a crap mission I decline. If the next offering is good, like an Extravaganza, I take it if not I delay and move to the next agent. In this way you can narrow your mission grind to just the 3 or 4 missions that are high reward and salvage. At the end of four hours I go through and decline the outstanding offers I don't want. If you want to fly safe then dock up. I always fly deadly. - Xeris 7 |

When I'm on a mission spree, I do just about the same thing. In my locale, there are 5 L4 security agents within 2 jumps of my base. I literally check all 5 agents, using declines when necessary. I will usually get 2 missions that are good from those 5 agents. I accept them both, and then do them. If they are worth looting/salvaging, I will completely clear them both, then grab the Noctopus and slurp both up. Depending on the missions, this can usually be done in 1-1.5 hours. Of course, full clears of Worlds Collide and any of the Extravaganzas will usually take longer.
Best case scenario are missions that are quick to clear, but profitable in terms of salvage and loot. Missions like Gone Berserk and Damsel in Distress are cash cows because those rats die fast (5 volleys in my CNR to wax a BS, 6 at most with T1 ammo), but they are amazing loot missions because of the large turrets and plates. In my experience, Angels give the best salvage (armor plates and alloyed tritanium bars) along with rogue drones, but I don't do drone missions anymore.
Best Loot Rats (in order) 1. EoM 2. Mercs 3. Serpentis
Best Salvage Rats (in order) 1. Angels 2. Drones 3. Blood Raiders

With enough practice I hear you can pop rats and loot/salvage while in a Marauder doing L4s. Gonna try it once I get a Vargur to see how much more ISK/hour I get vs. blitzing in a Maelstrom. |

I'm a casual player so I never blitz missions (except Recon 3 0o 3 lol) so I almost always salvage every mission I do.
I don't worry about ISK/Hr either - half the time I'm logged on I'm just chatting with alliance mates in chat while I plod through missions, often only do a single L4 per session.
The salvage can be turned into ISK at my leisure...for me it's a game, not a business. |

Oh that's how it starts. It is a game to me too...a PvP game and that requires isk from somewhere. When you start talking about recons, HACs, and BS PvP you can go through a lot of isk to have fun. I usually set aside one night or a weekend day to run mish and salvage. I just came back about three months ago from an almost two year break so I have not branched out into Incursions or exploration, which I use to do in low sec but mish nets me more. Salvaging is good if you know what you are looking for.
I usually salvage for rig parts and anything else I can find. If you get the rig bpo, you can pretty much make rigs for free as long as you have all the parts for it. If not, you can buy anything your missing off the market. Plus, you pay less for a rig parts to give your ship an extra boost. You can sell it too for a lot in Jita but I find it more useful for making stuff.
As for extra equipment, check the meta lvl and if its 4, its the best T1 item available until you start buying T2. You may get lucky and find a few and use them. With all the stuff you don't need or want, just sell it at JITA and get top dollar for it. Warning, Not everything will sell. |
