Yea deniatly more gritty, BTW Daredevil way more Cylon Draider then Dram. Loved the big war scenes in DS9 but BSG way more gritty. Made me shutter first time watching it.
So I am the only doctor who fan huh?

God that one was creepy, and the whole glove you get to live for a few minutes... eep.
Watch the Stolen Earth Episodes of Doctor Who, they feature Captain Jack as does most of the first season. He is incredibly funny in them.
The level of Awsome in stolen Earth is amazing, anyway what did you think of the BSG episode Scar?

Edited by: Nishachara on 29/10/2010 04:12:49 Yeah i must see that episodes of dr.who (friend allready recommended it to me a few times :D )
Hm.."scar" stayed in my memory as an episode where i started to dislike "Kat". I mean starbuck is moody, arrogant and all (in the lightest description) but "Kat" is simply barking at the wrong tree (as i might say it ) most of the time. In the end she reedemed herself in some way sacrafacing herself.
And thats what i like in bsg those complicated relations and drama , alongside good story and pew pew...
Oh...yes i also like "scar" himself in some way. Because he was more than just a drone, and that proves that every cylon "model" from grunt to raider to human-like model could evolve probably.
Honestly watching bsg i am often more on the cylon side, they somehow suit me better. Coz just look at humans in bsg, for instance when they meet up with pegasus... I mean, you are the last surviving members of your race, running to survive with one assoult carrier, and you stumble on more members of your race in newer more advanced ship. And what do they do, they almost kill eachother :P
Heh i wanna continue watching bsg now......and its 6 a.m and my gf would kill me if i watch episode without her :P
Edit:oh and yes, you are right, daredevil looks more like a cylon raider

To Alara: Awesome on watching Duet. I'm glad I could remind you of how great an episode it is.
To Nishachara: I kinda like your comparison of the hybrids with EVE capsuleers. "JUMP!!"
As to BSG vs DS9... Well, I come down on the side of DS9 as the superior show. While I agree that BSG was "grittier" I do not necessarily concede that BSG was "darker." Sure, having the cylons on your behind while you try to survive in sometimes old/broken down ships and no real ability to seriously augment your supplies beyond what the universe sends by you makes for a rather dark show. But DS9 was dark in a way that went beyond what we had previously seen in Trek.
Prior to DS9 (and most definitely shown in TNG), the Federation was pretty swell (yes, I said swell, meant that to sound as ******ed as it is lol) with little conflict and perfect human beings (like "let's talk" Picard" and "I want to be like Picard" Data). For me, in retrospect, Riker was the most interesting person in TNG in that he was the least "perfect" of the cast. DS9 changed all that and delved into subjects that had previously been ignored in Trek. The Bajorans and religion for instance... Also, let's not forget that in BSG, the colonials had the chance to use a biological weapon (that virus) and end the cylons. Well Sisko straight up did use similar weapons (when he poisoned an entire planet while trying to chase down Eddington...) and Section 31 DID use a biological weapon against the Founders. That's pretty hard core lol.
Having said all that word-hole blowage above, I really do love both shows. BSG sits for me right behind DS9 (and it's pretty close). What struck me in watching BSG was how similar in many ways it was to DS9. I had seen all of DS9 before my fiancee got me into BSG. We made a deal, I'd watch BSG if she watched DS9. (She was anti-Trek prior to meeting me.) We watched BSG first, and I kept saying to her "OMG, this is a lot like DS9, I can totally see Ron Moore's influence from DS9 carrying over to how he ran BSG!" Hell, I submit that James Callis was chosen for Baltar only after Alexander Siddig turned Moore down! (Ok, I have no proof of this lol, just my personal theory as to why Gaius looks/sounds so much like Bashir - I even see similarities in the characters themselves... I said, damn, that's Dr. Bashir with a name change!)
Anyway, I yack too much. In the end, I came to love BSG (and hated I had to wait for season 4, and then the second half of season 4...) and she came to love DS9. From DS9 I got her into Voyager. After she watched DS9, she agreed that BSG had a lot of DS9-like things in it.
Lastly, was cool to see Nana Visitor guest star in that episode in season 4.
And actually lastly... I can't speak on Dr. Who. I've never seen it, though I have heard good things.

Without doing an insane amount of googling, I'm not sure how much BSG is available to view legally and all that. I have all the episodes so for those who do, many episodes in seasons 1 and 2 showed Galactica engaging the cylon basestars and it was always a battle of missiles from the cylons versus autocannons (I guess the point defense/flak was kinda like that) and arties (Galactica's main guns) from Galactica. Sure, there were more missile action scenes throughout all the seasons, but having watched through them recently, I remember more 1 v 1 battles in seasons 1 and 2... I remember a lot of "missiles about to hit, Galactica jumps out, missiles fly through where Galactica was" action.
Ok, here is a fast and dirty youtube search that has "meh-ish" results: linky

There are some great scenes in that video you linked :D
I love scene when two battlestars are circling around basestar and pund it to the death... no more jump clones for cylons :P

It doesn't entirely stink of tribute video, I see one more and my head will explode. It has some good missile spam but if you watch the mini series and 33 you will see missile warefare that will make a drakes jaw drop.
Edit: Galactica and the Raiders/Raptors don't use autocannons the use rails called KEW's. They are just way more awsome then the once we are used to.

^ You know, I am a complete and total moron. You mention earlier tonight that 33 was your fave season 1 episode, and I go on talking about the "incoming missiles/outgoing Galactica" crap, and then I totally forget that 33 is perhaps one of the best examples of missile spam from the show.
Great video link there, and damn did I love to hate Admiral Cain. Michelle Forbes was excellent in that role. Also, watching that made me want to fly my Mach.

Originally by: Alexis Sapphire I'm pretty sure the episode was simply called "33." That was the first episode after the mini-series. Season 1 was overall the tightest of the seasons (well, ok, my opinion) as the plot hadn't developed all the tangential things that needed wrapping up later on in the show. Seeing Boomer shoot Adama... Was a holy sh*$! moment for me.
I felt season 2 was excellent for the first half-ish (up to Pegasus arriving and the attack on the resurrection hub) but then had some down episodes (Scar, The Black Market) but then bounced back with "The Captain's Hand" where Lee takes command of Pegasus. We then finish out season 2 with the election of Gaius "Frakking" Baltar and the settlement on New Caprica/return of the Cylons.
(As an aside... is it frakking or fraking? I never know which is correct amongst fellow BSG nerds - yes I of course am one myself...)
Season 3 was up and down for me. I found myself skipping a bunch of episodes in season 3's re-watch. Having said that, Galactica jumping into the atmosphere and then the battle where Lee sacrifices Pegasus - that was some impressive TV.
I enjoyed season 4 nearly as much as season 1. And to aid in my enjoyment, I simply refuse to pay attention to the last 30 minutes or so of the final episode. (I don't buy the "Hey, screw tech! It's only kept us alive, who needs it?" bit at the end. Starbuck vanishing didn't make me nearly as mad as giving up technology to start anew, and yeah, I get they were trying to break the cycle and all that...)
Overall, nuBSG is my second favorite TV show behind another show that establishes my nerd cred - Deep Space Nine.
And lastly, I feel as if I've just about totally derailed this thread from the op's initial premise. For that I apologize, but my nerd genes were activated seeing "BSG" on the forums.
nuBSG counts as a half credit, DS9 only counts as half credit. so you only get dweeb rank. now if you like Bab5, nuBSG, TNG, DS9, and Star Wars then you get your nerd card.
As for nuBSG BEST SPACE COMBAT EVER!!!!! I wanted to play a PC based flight sim off of that series. They never made a decent one tho =(

Star Wars: check (and bring on The Old Republic please in my lifetime!) Babylon 5: check-ish DS9: of course TNG: Not as much as before, looks dated as I've said
All in all, I think I pretty handily make the nerd rank...

I think we call that an Orca, with a bunch of ity V, badgers, mammoths, and that's about it. Fill the orca hangar bay with a bunch of frigates and a SB or two and your set.
Then to simulate the exodus, start of in dodi, head out to old man star, and make for deep 0.0 where you might find earth.

I have no skills in any relevant areas that would apply to this, and I am sure someone else on these here great forums has likely already thought of exactly this idea, but it would be pretty slick to see someone make a movie (of the Clear Skies sort) of a rag-tag fleet of ships heading for Earth. I see the Mach playing Galactica of course. The Orca kinda looks like some generic civilian fleet ship... Maybe even just a redo of BSG's opening, substituting in-game vids for the shots and then placing the credits/music over it.
Well, I'd watch it on youtube at least.
